The defending Putas del Fuego of the Texar Roller Derby banked-track
league staved off a tremendous team effort by the Hellcats Sunday
night, and pulled out a 38-33 win. It is very difficult to single
out one Hellcat because they had a team strategy, keep Chola under
control. But as in basketball, you cannot stop Chola! You can only
hope to keep her under control. Still, the Hellcats played like
wildcats and frustrated Chola as a team all night long. And then
when the other two Putas jammers were skating, the Hellcats would try
to make up the score difference.
They got to within two points in the fourth quarter, but top skater
Chola busted out of the pack, that was often sped up to neutralize
her, to score four big points to increase the margin out of reach of
a game Hellcat team.
Still that five point margin was a surprise to many of the TXRD fans,
as some thought the defending champs would blow the pink-clad
Hellcats out. It was to be close all of the night. I could give
credit to Dirty Blonde, Dixie Sanchez, Ruby Sioux, and Psycho Kitty
for skating very well, but I just don't think there is an MVP to be
given out for this excellent team effort, so I would give it to all
the skaters on the team.
Perhaps Thomas, who is a member of this group, can give us some team
stats when they come out! But I enjoyed watching the game, and
yelling a lot!
