Grandmaster Mele Mel-
Is a legendary hip-hop musician, one of the pioneers of old school hip hop as a lyricist and as lead rapper of Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five. He is the first rapper ever to call himself “MC”. A song entitled “The Message” became an instant classic and one of the first glimmers of conscientious hip-hop. Mel became known as “Grandmaster Melle Mel” and the leader of the Furious Five. The group went on to produce the anti-drug song “White Lines (Don’t Do It). Mel appeared in the movie Beat Street and performed the legendary rap on Chaka Khan’s “I Feel For You” which helped introduce hip-hop to the mainstream R&B audience. On 1/8/07 it was announced that The Furious Five will become the first rap group ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Induction will take place 3/12/07 in NYC.
Also in 2006, Melle Mel attended pro wrestling school and stated in an interview that “I’m going to try to take some of John Cena’s money and get with WWE and do my thing.”

Tom Filsinger-
Is the creator of Champions of the Galaxy and Legends of Wrestling card and dice role playing games. He is also a psychology professor and author of Dark Menace of the Universe, an autobiography that focuses on creativity.

Dear Friends,

It is with deep sorrow that I write with the news that the great
wrestling historian JIM MELBY died this (Sunday)
morning at home.

Jim was a second-to-none expert on classic 'golden age' pro
wrestling. Known well as a journalist and editor
during the 1970s, Jim and Norm Kietzer published The Wrestling News,
Wrestling Revue, Ring Wrestling, and
wrestling programs for just about every major wrestling promotion of
the era.

His health condition did not in any way detract from his love and
dedication to pro wrestling. Last year, it was my
honor to publish his first of many scheduled books, "Gopherland
Grappling - The History of Pro Wrestling In Minnesota, The Early Years."
We were working on a second Minnesota book that was to be published
this Spring.

Jim's passion for wrestling can't be denied. We have lost one of us.

Greg Oliver has posted more details here:

Sincerely,
Brian Bukantis

New Book- “Apartment 4B, Like In Brooklyn” Relives Turbulent 1960s-1970s

Autobiographical short story collection, “Apartment 4B, Like In Brooklyn,” relives bygone times of Brooklyn, New York in the 1960s and 1970s.

Flushing, NY November 21, 2006 — It was a turbulent time of great social upheaval.

And in the middle of it stood a child and his pals.

In this autobiographical short story collection, Evan Ginzburg looks back at growing up in the racially changing East Flatbush, Brooklyn of the 1960s and 1970s. From the beautiful friendships he made to the dangers and humiliations he faced, these gritty street tales will keep readers enthralled. With stories ranging from nostalgic to heart-rending, he pulls no punches as he looks back at a Brooklyn that is now lost forever.

“We read several tales on the air and they’re funny, poignant and most certainly memorable,” stated New York DJ Fred Geobold, of 50,000 watt WBAI-FM’s Light Show in New York City.

“Apartment 4B, Like In Brooklyn: With the same enthusiasm and humor that
makes his zine Wrestling Then And Now such a treat, Evan Ginzburg
chronicles his childhood as one of the last Jewish kids in Brooklyn's
Flatbush neighborhood in the '70s. Our protagonist endures constant
bullying and defines himself through games, pranks, friendships, family,
soul music, and his beloved wrestlers. As a character, he's seldom
heroic but always reflective and resilient. As a narrator, Ginzburg
maintains his friendly tone while revealing the horrors and conflicts of
his time and place in their full, agonizing glory. Great stuff. Evan
Ginzburg, PO Box 640471, Oakland Gardens Station, Flushing NY 11364,
evan_ginzburg@..., evanginzburg.com  says Emerson of Zine World”

Cultural icons such as Bruce Lee, Pam Grier, James Brown, Fred Williamson, Marvin Gaye, pro wrestling champion Bruno Sammartino and many other heroes of the era add magical memories that will transport readers back to this bygone time.
