Hi All, I am also a homeschooling mom and about a year or so ago, we had a group
at Gander Mountain next to Va. Center Mall off of Rt. 1 by the new Home Depot.
Scott was the homeschooling dad that was taking charge but not teaching. It lost
interest and with the high gas prices it faded away. But, since I've seen so
much interest in it, I took it upon myself to call Gander Mountain again, and
spoke with Justin back in the Archery dept. I told him of the interest and he
said that they are actually in the process of hiring a Archery Tech. I reminded
him that we use to pay 10.00 a week and it should be about the same price. Not
only does he teach SAFETY first but all the rules. Since we have so many younger
age group this is so important. Also, after the hour or so is up they always let
you stay and practice. I will be glad to help anyone organize this and be a
helper etc. if needed. I will keep you all updated. Cathy

I'm retiring from running the archery group. Things have gotten
pretty busy this summer (fixing up the house turned into a hernia
operation), and my kids aren't interested enough in archery for me to
continue. If anyone would like to take over, just send me an email.
There really isn't much to do, and I'm pretty sure the Gander mountain
people would be willing to run a class come fall.

I was hoping on doing some archery meetups at Rockwood Park over the
summer, but I just don't have the time to set this up. I checked out
their archery range, and most of their targets are a good distance
away. There is one that is pretty close (around 15 yards), but it
angles downward so if you miss, your arrow disappears. The result is
that for novices some sort of stop (plastic sheeting? tyvek?) would
probably be needed behind the target.

Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation didn't know of any archery
classes at Rockwood. The SCA "Yarvid" archery group meets at Rockwood
park on Sundays at 2:00 PM. Their focus is on archery using period
equipment, but I believe there are exceptions for kids. It might be
possible to get someone to help out teaching longbow shooting, but I
just haven't been able to get out there yet.

Hi Brooke, We have been missing it.  My husband was laid off and now back to work, it made it easier for him to take Carter.  We have missed about a month, but want and need to start it back up again. Hi everyone,

I talked to the guys at Gander Mountain, and there will be archery
classes on Monday over Spring break, so at least for the next month or
so, we will continue to have the archery class at Gander Mountain
every Monday at 11 AM.  I'll have the signup in the database section
tonight.
