Tonight the Reds signed to minor league contracts and invited to Major League spring training camp OF Corey Patterson (#23) and IF Jerry Hairston Jr. (#15).
Patterson, 28, has played 8 seasons in the Major Leagues for the Cubs (2000-05) and Orioles (2006-07).
Hairston, 31, has played 10 seasons for the Orioles (1998-2004), Cubs (2005-06) and Rangers (2006-07). Both players are expected to report to camp tomorrow.
Interesting because of the fact there currently isn't room on the 40 man roster for either of them nor the final 25. Not sure why this would be necessary...
just a couple of insurance players with solid major league credentials...also may be useful in a trade...teams do these things all the time as they look ahead,...
Extra bodies at this stage of camp are helpful as well. Especially when you are short on them because of the flu. I'm chomping at the bit to get my first...
I'm with you there Rob. Why does FSN Ohio or FSN Cincinnati only show 3 spring games? Even ESPN doesn't show that much highlight from any of the games. MJ ...

The signs are there though that the Reds are getting increasingly tiresome of his shoddy defense. He could end up being trade bait for someone. MJ ... From:...
An interesting tidbit. In 2007 Ryan Braun made 26 errors playing 3B. This year, he played exclusively in LF, and made 0 errors. In 2008, EE made 23 errors...
your hint here has occurred to me...if e.e. could make a successful move to the outfield, it would make for some real difference to this team...they need the...
He has the speed but then again I'm not that crazy about his bat. If he were a bit more consistent then I'd be ok with it. This year he hardly hit better...
with the two big questions being the outfield and shortstop, i pass, too...besides, e.e.'s defense as bad as it is, he's still a plus i think...young,...
I still insist we should keep our options open for depth behind the plate as well. The kid has done ok but with Javy presumably leaving we could use back up...
really! i was just reading about his release...wells hasn't had much luck these past few years, i think...wonder if he might have one of those short, golden...
