Thanks to a betrayal not unlike that of Cain and Abel, Edge once again lived up to the Ultimate Opportunist moniker as he capitalized on Matt Hardy¢s treachery to defeat Jeff Hardy and become the new WWE Champion.
DETROIT — In the 2009 Royal Rumble, 30 men collided with the shared aspiration of performing at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, but it was only one individual (with help from his two associates) who ascertained the opportunity to solidify his “Legacy.” That man is Randy Orton.
Days after the Legend Killer callously punted Mr. McMahon to the shock and disgust of the WWE Universe, Orton now proceeds toward the most important night of his career – ironically, at the celebration of the event birthed 25 years ago by the individual he felled on Raw, the WWE Chairman himself. (Watch: Orton punts Mr. McMahon)
Even with the seemingly infinite eyes of the WWE Universe narrowed in on the Legend Killer’s every move given his actions on Monday, Orton maintained focus in Detroit, shaking off any internal crisis of conscience. And, looking at his 29 Rumble opponents – Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Big Show and surprise entrant Rob Van Dam to name a few – he truly had no other choice. (Full Rumble participants list)
At No. 8, Orton entered the over-the-top rope struggle and was quickly followed by second-generation allies in Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes. All joining the match within the first half of its near 59-minute duration, the triumvirate changed the “every man for himself” element inherent of the Rumble and instead employed an effective collaborative strategy to eliminate the likes of Kane, Big Show and others. (Rumble Match Photos)
Rounding out a virtual “who’s who” of WWE’s greatest Superstars (many Orton has both fought and defiled in the past), this year’s 30-man encounter boasted a WWE Tag Team Champion, as well as the Intercontinental, United States and World Tag Team Champions, not to mention four past Rumble victors – all falling short of the Legend Killer’s luster.
Among them was Triple H who mounted the last strike against all three Legacy members. In the closing moments of the collision, The Game fought off a 3-on-1 attack and ousted both DiBiase and Rhodes, only for the viper-likened Orton to slither forth and eject his former mentor to secure a World Title bout on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Twenty-five years after his father “Cowboy” Bob Orton tussled in the main event of the very first WrestleMania, the Legend Killer will give life to a new family Legacy at the silver anniversary celebration of the Biggest Spectacle of Them All. Maybe.
Though the Rumble-winning Orton’s spot in the main event of WrestleMania XXV should be soundly sealed, there still linger reparations to be made for his vindictive assault on the concussed WWE Chairman. The 2009 Royal Rumble Match winner still awaits imminent reprimand, be it a fine, suspension or possibly even termination.
A quarter-century of spectacle, pomp and gallantry will be celebrated in Houston on April 5. Typically, the question to be asked of the Rumble winner is which World Title they will opt to target on that night. In this controversy-laden scenario, however, the uncertainty lies elsewhere. Given the retribution-ridden history of the McMahon clan, will Randy Orton even be competing in WWE by the time WrestleMania XXV rolls into Reliant Stadium?

Let’s see, what do I have to talk about this week?
Oh right- there’s my kick-ass appearance at the Royal Rumble! YouTube - WWE - Rob Van Dam RVD Returns - Royal Rumble 2009 Check it out unless it's taken down before you get a chance. This came together at the last minute and worked out well for everyone, you included!
Besides the awesome RVD kicks flying everywhere, it was cool seeing everyone back stage. Yes- everyone. I also enjoyed knowing that these guys were driving on to Cleveland while I was flying back to Cali!
In a really therapeutic way, Sonya got a lot of energy from seeing everyone, and everyone seeing her. She’s amazing, and we know that she has inspired many of you, and myself also.
In Sonya’s first-ever blog, she’d like to thank everyone for all their personal efforts to participate in her healing.
Hi Everybody!
I know this is long overdue so please forgive me, as you can imagine I’ve had a lot on my plate. I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that said a prayer for me, lit a candle at mass, held me close in your hearts and thoughts, sent me an email, or a card. I read them all! Many of them more than once. I want to thank all of you that shared your stories of hope and survival from this vicious disease. Thank you to those of you that sent gifts, they were all so thoughtful and kind. I love my plush animals filled with homegrown lavender, the plants and flowers, my mega gift basket stuffed full of amazing organic products, and my knitted with love lavender scarf. These are only some of the cool things you all sent. I can’t say thank you enough.
I’ve now finished chemo! YAY! My new mission in life is to enjoy every second of it cancer free. For those of you that have cancer in your family please get regular check ups, early detection is key. If you are due for a colonoscopy and you are scared, take it from someone that must get one every year, the prep is the worst part. Know your body and wear sunscreen! Most importantly, when life rains on you jump in the puddles and splash. Don’t wait until something like cancer comes along to illuminate your rainbows.
Much love and good health,
Sonya “SVD” Van Dam
What else? Oh, did we talk about the movie? Next on my list of projects to attack is an action packed display of coolness called Wrong Side of Town. I’ve been in 3 martial arts movies so far-name them with me....Super Fights, Blood Moon and Black Mask 2, but this movie is starring RVD! Huge difference there! I should be able to handle it, seeing as how I’m an action hero in real life. More info on this forthcoming. I’m looking forward to filming RVD TV on the set for a few weeks to give you watchers the real back stage inside scoop! Filming starts in early February so I’m “prepping” for it now. Because of that...
RVD RADIO( which recently won the People’s Choice Award) will be taking a break from live shows for a few weeks. My awesome producer at blogtalkradio Nikki Starr will be filling in with some archives and will keep the chat room open for the regulars who look forward to our weekly gift of feeling socially adequate for 2 hours every Wednesday from 9-11(6-8 p.s.t.)
Noticed the new ROBVANDAM.com site?
It’s pretty sweet, huh?
More features-like videos from me or youtube or even my demo reel of action on the profile page!
While you’re checking out the new features, take a look at the RVD outfit that’s up for auction. When 5 Star Comics online store manager Tony Vela ( plug for ya, Ton!) told me that I gave him an outfit that’s been on trading cards and even an action figure, I almost wanted to take it back and trade it for another. Almost.
Also, take a look at RVD TV DVD Vol 1. This is the first of many to come, and an exclusive at ROBVANDAM.com. This is a sneak peek at a varied version of a DVD that will be in stores in the spring. Every DVD from my web site still comes with an autograph. Sweet!
Another of one of my many projects is a comic book that I wrote, which is materializing at it’s own pace. Here’s the deal. It’s a 4 book set and after 2 books, my artist had to leave the project. I need someone to replace him, but I really, really like his art work and I’m only interested in finding someone that can match his style-which you can see a sample of here.....final_page_11_.jpg 685×1023 pixels and final_page_12_.jpg 614×1024 pixels
If you can hang, send in a sample to my webmaster at unkinddesigns@....
I heard the new RVD Classics action figure is due out in Spring. I hope they make a lot of them. I always noticed that my figures were hard to find in stores. I’m sure you noticed the same thing. There were plenty of certain wrestler’s figures but not mine. Hmm..You’d think they would’ve made more, but I guess they needed the room on the shelves for the others to hang. I think they felt the same way about my t shirts in the arenas. Ahh..the good ol’ days.
After filming Wrong Side of Town, Sonya and I will be on tour in France, where I’ll be wrestling for one of those select bookings that I take. This is not a green light for promoters to contact me about working in their flea markets. If you would contact any of the select promoters that I have worked with over the last couple years instead, I’m quite sure you’d have a different idea of RVD fitting into your budget.
What do you think? Enough news? No. I know you...you want to leave this blog thinking.
On our last RVD RADIO show-which you can still listen to-we talked about Power and Greed. We had Sabu, Spike Dudley, Fonzie, Officer X, Neil Kaplan and others on-hand to discuss the deep subjects. The thing with Greed for me is this. I want a big house. I want several big houses with millions in the bank. Is that greedy? As a dream chaser I find that I want to reach for the stars, and I believe that many people feel that you should only want what you need or you are sinning. Maybe I’m wrong. Where do you draw the line? Is it a sin to want a lot? If you already have a lot? More money? More sexual partners? More friends? More food? More happiness? More power? More Where do you draw the line between greedy and ambitious?
With power, I believe it can mostly be limited to having something that others want. That gives you power over them. If you can help them with a job, favor, whatever upgrade in life-you have power over them. If they don’t want what you have, there goes your power.
The guy that takes pride in the loud noises that his motorcycle makes when he’s revving it up thinks he’s cool because he has that power. I think it’s just obnoxious. He has no power over me. The power of influence is a good thing, and from our conversation we talked about my ability to empower others with positive energy. If I want a lot of power am I greedy?
Feel free to tell me what you think, you always do.

Greetings free thinkers. Feel well. Everybody. Just, go ahead and feel well. There you go.
It's going to be a long one. Grab a beverage.
We have much to discuss, so let's start at the top.
Wednesday, December 17 is Sonya's last chemo disconnect! She'll get disconnected and be through with the treatments, and she kicked cancer's ass! She's so amazing, you'd never know what she's gone through by looking at her. We are very ready for the next chapter in our life.
On RVD RADIO, on the 17th, we'll talk about cancer, and survivor stories. We want to hear from you, so be ready to share. Also joining SVD and myself will be Survivor contestant and actress Jerri Manthee, ECW original Francine, Neil Kaplan and Sabu, to name a few. We've all had so much fun with RVD RADIO over the last several weeks. My blogs have to share the outlet position for my life pondering now. We've talked about so many topics from government conspiracies to holiday seasons, organized religion to language censorship. Last week, we had Sabu, Fonzie-that's right, Daddy, Kid Kash, the Masterpiece, of course SVD, and our official RVD RADIO law representative Officer X all talking about Road Rage. Lots of stories!
RVD RADIO airs live Wednesdays 6-8 P.S.T. (9-11 E.S.T.) and you can go to blogtalkradio.com/rvdradio or call (347) 308-8754 to listen or join in.
RVD TV recently aired its 50th weekly episode! That's a lot of kick ass videos and they are ALL still available to watchers. Check out the site for membership information.
In celebration of RVD TV's 50th episode, we're upgrading the web site AGAIN, to add more features and more fan interactive options, not to mention making everything more user friendly to enjoy. Also...
The Best of RVD TV DVD -Vol 1!
Featuring ten episodes, an autographed case and priority shipping, this DVD is only available at robvandam.com! Shipping starts on the 15th, so there's time to get this and wrap it up!
Huge 5 Star thank-you's to Justin McCully, Jay Mohr, Andrew Bryniarski, Taboo, Warrior, Chris Masters, Samoa Joe, Jack Herer, Brad Williams, Eric Bischoff, Chris Nowinski, Daniel Puder, David Defalco and others for their participation.
Let me read off the back of the box for you..
"When one of wrestling's most popular personalities stepped away from the ring at the height of his career, fans were shocked and demanded a return of "THE WHOLE FN' SHOW." And, return he did, but not to the squared circle. Rob Van Dam took to his personal website and launched a groundbreaking reality series "RVD TV." For the first time ever, fans were able to not only get a glimpse into the life of the the mega star, but to truly GET TO
KNOW THE REAL ROB VAN DAM. From his personal workouts to his insight to spiritual growth, he reveals the reality of being RVD. Plus, fans get an inside look at some very interesting moments in the life of the former "Mr.Money In The Bank," as he sits down with his celebrity friends to discuss and debate the issues that matter to them from gun control to language
censorship and more! "Often Imitated, Never Intimidated" RVD is truly ONE OF A KIND and now he has personally selected 10 of his favorite 5 STAR episodes for this MUST SEE DVD: THE BEST OF RVD TV!"
Congrats to Justin "the Insane One" McCully for his victory over Eddie Sanchez on UFC's Fight for the Troops Night. This bout did not air on Spike TV, but can be seen at
JMC was in his best shape in UFC history and fought like the master that he is.
My good friend and very funny comedian Larry Weaver has a new eBook entitled "Funny Employee Awards: Your Complete Guide to Organizing a Humorous, Entertaining and Rewarding Recognition Ceremony." It features 101 funny awards certificates that you can print and give to your coworkers. Check it out at http://www.funnyemployeeawards.com/funny-awards-book.asp
Sonya and I went to a screening of "The Wrestler". I like Mickey Rourke. I like Marisa Tormei. It was entertaining to watch, from the beginning to the end, but it left me feeling a bit... disturbed. The character is doomed from the start because he's a wrestler from the 80's who just won't quit and sacrifices everything for his passion. It was too real. At the same time, that's what they went for. They told a story about a particular man at a particular time in his life, and they chose a depressing story to tell. I didn't really know how I felt after seeing it, just unfulfilled. Maybe it was because I wanted the other side of the coin exposed. Maybe I felt judged. When I shook the
director (Darren Aronofsky)'s hand, I just said "Thanks for reducing my life's dream's to rubbish." I'm not sure if everyone got the message that I did from the movie, but I'm pretty sure it had to do with the meaninglessness of the wrestler's commitment to his dream. Go see it, form your own opinion. You know what? Let's talk about "The Wrestler" on RVD RADIO Wednesday as well.
Click here to read about the oldest stash in history- two pounds of still-green marijuana found in a 2,700-year-old Gobi Desert grave!
Here's something else in the news that I found to be VERY interesting. A man named Felix Kha was cited for possession of marijuana, even though he produced the proper documentation, identifying him as a medical marijuana patient, here in Cali. The Orange County Court ruled not only that the man was in compliance with the law, but also that the police must return the marijuana to its rightful owner. The police refused-of course- and with the city behind them in support, went to the Supreme Court to fight for their cause. DENIED! They have to give it back!
"It's now settled that state law enforcement officers cannot arrest medical marijuana patients or seize their medicine simply because they prefer the contrary federal law".
"Perhaps, in the future local government will think twice about expending significant time and resources to defy a law that is overwhelmingly supported by the people of our state."
Read more about this story at Cops must return stolen property . Remember everyone, we now have 25% of American adults living in Medical Marijuana states, and a president-elect that will not endorse arresting patients. Still don't see a change happening in our life time? Keep thinking that then, stubborn reader-but I side with common sense.
When I read the comments that you readers leave for this blog on my myspace page, I'm going to be looking for your answer to a question I pose. Well, that and of course more importantly the congrats to SVD. Yay! Ok. You ready? This is a serious question. I really want to know what your opinions are on this. Here we go.
Why do you think the top killing drug ( by far-many hundreds of thousands of annual deaths ahead of second place) is the most accepted to use?
I look forward to learning from your responses.
Until then, and after then...oh, what the hell- during then, too...

World Heavyweight Champion John Cena & Trish Stratus def. Santino Marella & Women's Champion Beth Phoenix
TORONTO – With just three more sleeps until Christmas, Raw slid into Canada to deliver some holiday cheer – at least most Superstars were there to deliver cheer. A
handful on the naughty list, however, did their level best to earn a few well-deserved lumps of coal. And one gave the hometown crowd a little something extra to cheer about.
WATCH all of the action now in the Raw Quick Cut and check out WWE.com's exclusive ringside PHOTOS.
World Heavyweight Champion John Cena & Trish Stratus def. Santino Marella & Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix It’s a Christmas miracle! At least that’s how World Heavyweight Champion John Cena categorized it before announcing that seven-time Women’s Champion Trish Stratus would be teaming with him in place of Kelly Kelly, who left the arena distraught, against Santino Marella & Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix. Needless to say, Stratus’ fellow Canadians appreciated one of their own striking back against the arrogance of Glamarella and competing for the first time since September 2006. Stratusfaction guaranteed, Stratusfaction delivered. (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Chris Jericho def. CM Punk In the fourth and final bout of the night to determine who will advance to next week’s Fatal Four Way Elimination Match, 2008 Slammy Award winner for Superstar of the Year Chris Jericho took on the challenge of CM Punk for the last slot in the Fatal Four Way Elimination Match. After a determined Punk appeared to have Jericho in his crosshairs, the ruthless Undisputed Champion summoned his unyielding longing and managed to conquer the Straightedge Superstar. Jericho’s inclusion completes the lineup for next Monday’s Fatal Four Way Elimination Match, including Shawn Michaels, JBL and Randy Orton as the Superstars compete for the opportunity to face John Cena for the World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble. (PHOTOS)
The Miz & John Morrison confront Kelly Kelly Perhaps Kelly Kelly thought she was off the hook once she spilled The Miz’s name to Kane last week when the Big Red Monster demanded to know the identity of her secret lover. If so, she doesn’t know Miz & Morrison all that well. After letting them know that she will be Cena’s partner in the Mixed Tag Team Match, the “Dirt Sheet” duo informed her that they heard a rumor that “somebody” broke into the Diva's hotel room and trashed the place. Why would anyone want to do that to “sweet, innocent Kelly Kelly?” asked Morrison.
Randy Orton def. Batista due to forfeit Due to injuries suffered by Batista last week as a result of the punt to the head, compliments of Randy Orton, The Animal was unable to compete and forfeited the match. The forfeit allows Orton, who callously called the kick to Batista’s skull his most satisfying, to advance into next week’s Fatal Four Way Elimination Match in a battle to become the No. 1 contender to World Heavyweight Champion John Cena. (PHOTOS)
JBL def. Rey Mysterio by disqualification when HBK interferes on behalf of Mysterio In the second match of the night to determine who will advance to next Monday’s Fatal Four Way Elimination Match, the scales of injustice tipped in favor of JBL, with Shawn Michaels leaning heavily in his favor.
Just as JBL’s opponent Rey Mysterio appeared to overcome the Longhorn Loudmouth’s size advantage, sizing up the mouthy millionaire for a 619, Michaels charged down the entrance ramp. HBK, who had earlier discussed his money woes with longtime confidante Triple H, seized his benefactor Layfield, dragged him from the ring and slapped him across the face. The harsh action, while seemingly punitive to JBL, resulted in a disqualification for Rey. Michaels’ interference permits JBL to advance to next Monday night’s Fatal
Four Way Match in the Race to the Rumble. (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Melina & Mickie James def. Jillian Hall & Layla With Intercontinental Champion William Regal observing intently, his lady-friend Layla teamed with Jillian Hall to battle Melina & Mickie James in a Divas Tag Team Match. After Jillian belted out a stomach-turning version of a holiday tune, the Divas got down to business. In the end, it was Melina who would silence Jillian by pinning her rival for the three-count. Kofi Kingston def. Manu He may have helped to distract John Cena last week, which allowed Randy Orton to punt Batista in the head, but Manu couldn’t help himself tonight against high-flying Kofi Kingston. As his fellow second-generation Superstar Cody Rhodes looked on, Manu simply could not leverage his size and strength advantage to his favor, succumbing to the swift aerial assault of the Jamaican Sensation.
Afterward, Manu, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Afa, experienced a tense run-in with Randy Orton, the self-styled leader of the group of the second-generation Superstars; Manu interrupted a conversation between Orton and Sim Snuka, son of WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka. (PHOTOS)
Kane apologizes to Kelly Kelly; Shawn Michaels def. Kane After accosting Kelly Kelly last week and scaring the bejeezus out of her, an ever-so-slightly less psychotic Big Red Monster apologized to the tormented Diva at the behest of Stephanie McMahon. Kane still did not learn the identity of Kelly Kelly’s secret lover, but he did have a chance to take out his aggression on Shawn Michaels.
Unfortunately for Kane, HBK had some aggression of his own to vent. Michaels emerged victorious in the first of four matches of the night to determine who advances to the following Monday night’s Fatal Four Way Elimination Match. The winner of the elimination bout will earn No. 1 contender status and face World Heavyweight Champion John Cena in a title match at the Royal Rumble. (PHOTOS)
Santino challenges John Cena; Cena accepted the Mixed Tag Team main event Santino Marella, joined Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix, kicked off Raw with all the holiday cheer of expired egg nog. The grinchin’ goomba verged on revealing a “secret” he said he knows about Santa Claus, but before he could reveal the secret, World Heavyweight Champion John Cena interrupted. Cena told Santino not to mess with jolly, ol’ Saint Nick, which prompted the Italian to challenge him to a match. John Cena and a Diva of his choosing will square off later tonight against Santino & Beth.
With the real Saint Nick busy this time of year, WWE traveled to Iraq for the sixth annual Tribute to the Troops celebration to do our small part in showing America’s appreciation for all the sacrifices shown by the United States troops overseas. It was a festive time filled with bravery, beauty and brawls.
While Rey sported the red, white and blue of Ol’ Glory, the aerial artist appeared to only be flying at half-staff after all three of his team’s opponents got their hands on him. Soldiering on, the Master of the 619 never appeared to give up. He battled until Jericho found himself in an altercation with his teammate Big Show. Before long, The World’s Largest Athlete had pummeled both Jericho and Orton and stormed off in a huff. Rey’s teammates Batista and Cena wisely took advantage, administering a Batista Bomb and FU to their opponents to claim victory for their team.
Cryme Tyme introduces “Santa’s Helpers”(PHOTOS) No visit to the Troops would be complete without a visit from Santa Claus. In this case, Shad & JTG brought a little “Holiday from the ‘Hood” to the servicemen and women. Dressed in their flyest Santa Claus gear, the Cryme Tyme duo got the crowd pumped, thanking them for serving the United States overseas. The “Candy Cane Ballers” weren’t finished there, though. The two unveiled what was, perhaps, the Troops’ favorite gift: A bevy of gorgeous Santa’s Helpers!
Dressed in outfits that would make Mrs. Claus blush, Divas Kelly Kelly, Maria, Mickie James, Eve and Alicia Fox handed out sacks full of gifts to the brave men and women, and staged an impromptu dance-off to show their appreciation. Judging by the waves of hollers and applause, it was mission accomplished.
WWE Champion Jeff Hardy, CM Punk & R-Truth def. JBL, The Miz & John Morrison (PHOTOS | WATCH) The troops crowded the ring for a sensational Six-Man Tag Match pitting the trio of new WWE Champion Jeff Hardy, CM Punk & R-Truth against JBL and World Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison. After pulling up in a chauffeured Hum-vee, the millionaire investor nearly led his team to victory several times. Hardy, Punk & Truth, however, each brought gifts to the ring: Spirit, determination and charisma. The three wise men managed to leverage their talents and, in the end, the WWE Champion overcame the Longhorn Loudmouth, pinning JBL and securing the win for his team.
All in all, WWE’s annual Tribute to the Troops celebration yielded plenty of Christmas
