RVD, Holly in Brutal, Bloody TV Brawl
September 26, 2006 - RVD and Hardcore Holly have been playing a brutal game of "can you beat this" over the last few weeks on ECW and the pair decided to take their hostility to the extreme this past week as they clashed in an Extreme Rules Match. Neither man may have been prepared for just how extreme this contest would get as a the crimson would flow in no short supply before the end of this night...
EXTREME RULES MATCH
ROB VAN DAM def. HARDCORE HOLLY
RVD and Holly locked up collar-and-elbow before Van Dam clamped on a side headlock. Holly sent Van Dam into the ropes to break the hold then after the pair blocked mutual hiptoss attempts at midring, RVD dropped Holly on his skull with a short armdrag takedown. Van Dam leveled Hardcore with a clothesline before bottling Holly in the corner with a spinning back heel kick and Mr. Tuesday Night looked to have the momentum well in his favor at that point.
Holly would quickly turn the tide, though, catching Van Dam with a shot to the gut after the Whole F’n Show took a moment to play to the crowd. Holly measured Van Dam with stiff right hands before sending Van Dam into the ropes but RVD flipped through a backdrop attempt before dropping Holly with a side savat kick.A clothesline from Van Dam primed Holly for a baseball slide dropkick which would send Holly under the bottom rope and out to the arena floor. RVD’s cockiness cost him again, though, as Holly regrouped and dragged Van Dam under the bottom rope and out to the arena floor. However, RVD countered a suplex attempt on the floor then after hanging Holly out to dry across the guardrail, RVD lowered the boom across the back of his fellow former Hardcore Champion with his trademark corkscrew guillotine legdrop.
RVD then began to pull out the toys as he retrieved a table from under the ring but Holly collected himself and after assaulting Van Dam from behind, Holly ran RVD face first into the steps. Holly lit up Van Dam’s chest with a chop before running him into the ringpost and then back in the ring, Holly scored a nearfall after connecting with a legdrop.
Holly backed Van Dam into the corner and punished Van Dam with right hands and kicks to the midsection and although RVD turned things around momentarily with rights of his own, an Irish Whip was countered by Holly by means of a boot to the face of a charging Van Dam out of the corner. Holly then choked Van Dam out across the second rope then he applied a modified Camel Clutch in the middle of the ring but Van Dam battled his way to the ropes. However, Holly sent RVD right back to the canvas, bludgeoning him with a pair of heavy forearm shots to the chest.
Holly drove a pair of boots into RVD’s midsection in the corner but RVD fired back with right hands and back elbows to the midsection of Holly. However, Holly stopped Van Dam again, once with a back elbow to the face and again moments later with a rake of the eyes. RVD would not relent, though, as he looked to send Holly over the top rope and out to the floor courtesy of a backdrop.
Holly managed to land on the apron, however, and Van
Dam and Holly traded right hands, Holly teetering over the table which loomed ominously below. Holly got the better of the exchange and looked for a suplex through the table to the floor and although RVD countered Hardcore's vile intentions initially, the second effort attempt was not as successful and both men splintered the table below with their anatomies. Holly got the worse of the exchange, though, as the framing of the tables opened up a mammoth gash across his back!Holly somehow managed to maintain the offensive following the commercial break and he grabbed a chair from under the ring before dropping Van Dam throat first across the back of the chair. Van Dam showed his grit by kicking out at two but Holly kept the offense coming as he draped the chair over the prone Van Dam’s face before driving the steel into Van Dam’s face with a second rope legdrop!
Van Dam again kicked out before the count of three, though, and then after Van Dam countered a suplex onto a steel chair, it was Holly’s lacerated torso that would meet the steel by means of a Van Dam suplex. Holly and Van Dam struggled to their feet where their relentless assaults on one another commenced, the duo trading right hands in the middle of the ring. Van Dam got the better of the battle after ducking a right hand from Holly and scoring with a series of rights of his own and then flattening Holly with a pair of clotheslines.
Van Dam sent Holly into the corner with an Irish Whip and sent Holly crashing onto his back with a Monkey Flip then RVD went airborne and scored with a top rope leaping side kick. RVD continued the onslaught in the corner as he skateboarded a steel chair into the cranium of Holly then moments later, RVD placed a chair on Holly’s chest and delivered the somersault senton version of Rolling Thunder!
Holly sucked it up and
kicked out at the count of two then he somehow mustered the strength to counter a Monkey Flip by Van Dam out of the corner before pasting Van Dam onto the steel chair with a hellacious powerbomb! Van Dam would kick out before the official tolled a count of three, though, then Van Dam countered Hardcore’s attempt to run him into the top turnbuckle, dropping Holly with a standing split-legged kick.Van Dam looked to go to the skies once more at that point as he placed the chair on the chest of Holly once again but this time, Van Dam was feeling a little froggy as he ascended the ropes. Holly sensed the 5-Star coming, though, and at the last moment, Holly hurled the steel chair into Van Dam’s face, wrapping the chair around Van Dam’s head and leaving the former ECW World Champion in a crumpled heap in the corner!
Holly dragged himself over to make the cover but Van Dam put his toughness on display once again, kicking out at two. Holly looked for the Alabama Slam at that point and although Van Dam wriggled free of Holly’s grasp, Hardcore sent Van Dam to the mat with a series of right hands. Holly then grabbed the chair and looked to tee off on RVD but Van Dam caught Holly closing in, sending the chair caroming off of the skull on Holly with a Van Daminator! RVD then went skyward one more time and this time, the 5-Star would find its mark!
The impact sent RVD bounding across the ring but Van Dam gathered himself and rolled into the cover and three seconds later, Van Dam scored a very hard-fought triumph!
