The flyer states a 3km course, presumably the one from '07, the website and map show the course from last year....
Just curious, but which one is correct?
Really looking forward to this next weekend!!

Hello Anne,
Thanks for the plug for the Koppenberg this weekend. Since there is no collegiate race, I wanted to pass along an incentive to have collegiate racers attend. Aside from it being good training for the young'ins I will reduce the entry and no late fee for the collegiate racers. Instead of a $35 entry on race day ($30 + $5 late fee), there entry is only $25.
But, the must show a collegiate license and race under their collegiate team, not non collegiate club teams. Hopefully most have an ACA license if not they can purchase an annual on site or the one day fee is $10.
Thanks for passing this along to the collegiate crowd.

Hello RMCCC, Congratulations on a great first weekend of racing. The races were great (kudos to CSU and CC) and the riding fantastic. It was great to see you all after the winter break.
A couple of updates: 1. Results are posted on www.rmccc.org. Currently only the USAC raw results are posted, conference results and points will be up soon. Updates and other information is also on the website.
2. Western State is canceling their race on the weekend of March 28, 29. This is unfortunate, but unavoidable at this point. For those of you not wanting a weekend off, the Koppenberg roubaix style race is being held in Boulder on the 29th (http://www.boulderr acing.com/ koppenberg. asp ) - No collegiate points will be
awarded for this race and it is ACA.
3. Rule books. There are some significant changes to the 2009 collegiate rule book. If you're looking for some stimulating reading material whilst driving umpteen hours to the next race, download it here http://www.usacycli ng.org/forms/ collegiate/ collegiate_ rulebook. pdf . You could even make up little games to test each other on your knowledge of all that is wonderful about collegiate cycling...
4. Rosters. Buried amongst all those lovely rules is the one about full time student status. Ok, stop paging through, it is actually located on pg 62 rule 7G1. This rule applies to all conference and national races. To help Spencer and I keep monitor the full time status of all the riders in the conference, we are asking that each team submit a
roster with Rider Name, License # (or one day), Category, and Verification of full time status (just a "Yes Full Time" will do). We will need the first roster by March 30th of all the riders who have raced with your team up to that point.

Dear RMCCC,
Thanks for a great start to our 2009 season! So far, our turnout has been great
and the races all exciting. I do, however, have a bone to pick. Last Saturday,
at CU's Research Park Crit, I received several complaints about riders who were
purposefully pushing other riders, sometimes even taking their hands off the
bars to do so. This was particularly an issue in the Men's A and Women's B races
— reportedly these actions caused crashes in both races.
To quote section 1Q6 of our rulebook (available on rmccc.org):
"No rider may make an abrupt motion so as to interfere with the forward progress
of another rider, either intentionally or by accident [relegation or
disqualification; possible 20 days suspension if a crash results]."
When you are out there, racing, you are responsible for setting the tone in the
field. Unfortunately, our officials can't see the whole race so we count on you
all to watch out for each other and make sure it's clear that dangerous riding
is not acceptable. That being said, all riders should know that we have a
zero-tolerance policy from now on — if it happens again, the offenders will be
punished.
Actions like this are a huge safety issue, and further, they undermine
everything that we work towards in collegiate cycling. The best thing about
collegiate cycling is that it provides a welcoming atmosphere to nurture new
riders while also providing for elite-level competition. We, the RMCCC, as a
conference, have done an awesome job recruiting new riders — the Men's C and
Women's B fields have been huge! I am convinced that these incidents are the
exception to the rule. Let's keep building our conference and growing our
participation.
On a separate harangue, be aware that we are done being nice about the "shorts
rule." Either wear your team shorts or wear blank shorts: "7I3. In Collegiate
Cycling Races, Riders may only wear shorts (a) of their Team or (b) shorts that
are effectively blank. [$20 fine administered to the Rider at the Race]."
As much as I love looking through the rulebook for relevant passages, please be
aware that you are all required to know the rules — ignorance is not an
acceptable excuse for non-compliance. If you are a team coach or manager, please
ensure that your riders get this message, and if you are a rider, please do the
same as well.
Thank you for participating and for all of your hard work. You are all doing
fantastic and I feel priveleged to work with the RMCCC.
To quote a modern classic, "The Big Lebowski:" "This aggression will not stand,
man!"
Best regards,
-Spencer

I hope each of you are having a great season or getting
ready to start one. We are now only 50 days away from the 2009 USA
Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships!
If members of your team are not on the conference email
list, please forward accordingly to disseminate the information.
USA Cycling, CSU, Ft. Collins, and all involved parties have
been working hard to make this year’s event better than last.
There are a few things to note as you prepare for your
chance to bring home some stars and bars or some hardware for your team.
Courses – the RR course presents the same roads,
but the direction of the race has changed to allow a more mellow warm-up to the
race and an all-around better racing experience. The TTT course has
changed completely, while the Crit will remain in downtown. Please
take a look at the new information here, http://www.fccyclingfest.com/event-mapsdirections.
Secure Shipping/Receiving
– The
host hotel, Hilton Ft.Collins, is offered a stellar deal for lodging that will
put you in the middle of the action and will allow you to avoid the outrageous
fees of flying with your bike. The Hilton has arranged a secure and
locked room for receiving that may only be accessed by presentation of picture
ID of an item addressed to that individual in the room. They have also
arranged an onsite shipping agreement with UPS and FedEx, so you can pack,
weigh, and ship your bike all from the hotel w/o any offsite transport.
They request that you; 1) address the package to ONLY the person that will be
picking it up (either yourself or a designated team leader), 2) please ship the
package that it arrives NO EARLIER than 4 days prior to guest arrival, and 3)
bring your photo ID to pick up the bike. The mailing address is: The
Hilton Fort Collins 425 W. Prospect Road Fort Collins, CO 80526.
UCI Bike Measurements – As a USA Cycling
National Championship, all bicycles must comply with UCI technical regulations.
For those that were present last year, the most hiccups occurred for TT
bikes. Please take time to review the guidelines vailable at UCI and are found in Part 1,
General Regulations under Section 1.3 beginning on page 54. For a detailed
visual guide that will help you understand if you qualify for an exemption,
please see USA Cycling Guide:
Race Bible – The final revisions are being made
to the Race Bible and it will soon be posted on the event page.
Keep your eyes peeled for all the juicy information and for some extras in this
year’s event schedule, that may include a Collegiate Coaching clinic,
Collegiate Board of Trustee forums, and Rider meetings!
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact
me or your National events staff (cced here) at USA Cycling. Looking
forward to a great race in CO!
Cheers,
Daniel

Hello RMCCC, Collegiate Results from the first three weekends are now available on www.rmccc.org/race. Please check over and let me know if there are any errors. I am working on conference results and points this week and once those are posted no protests on the USAC results will be accepted - so look at them soon.
Also, you will note that the Men C race from CU has a lot of 30th place riders- this is the average for riders that were placed as 'Field' because the camera was misbehaving. It is unfortunately common to have camera problems and when this happens, riders need to help get better results by checking in after their race and meeting with officials. I will try to make a point of mentioning this at the next races.
Hope you are having fun with the races. I got to ride the courses for the Mesa race today and WOW! What fun! You guys are in for a treat!
Collegiate Racers.
I know this is early in the season but moving at the pace of government
sometimes requires us to think very early about stuff. We know lodging is
always a concern and last year we weren't able to do much. This year is
different and we have a very exciting opportunity to offer the RMCCC community.
For the first time EVER, the Air Force Academy will open its "on-base" hotel and
temporary apartments to the incoming collegiate racers/teams. Repeat,
collegiate only. There is limited availability so we are asking that you either
act soon on this, or plan on staying in the local community at a much higher
cost. Unfortunately we are not allowed to house people in the cadet dorms, nor
would I think you would want to …. Unless of course you enjoy reveille.
Here are the details. All rooms are on base are within minutes of the starting
lines for all 3 events. The race is on 18-19 April 2009.
The rooms are very nice, you won't need to get through the guard gates in the
mornings and that means a little extra sleep. Housing is across the street from
where the Banquet will be.
Details:
We have set aside 26 single queen bed rooms (sleeps up to 2) ($39.00/night)
We have set aside 3 1-bedroom apartments (sleeps up to 4) ($41.50 /night)
We have set aside 2 2-bedroom apartments (sleeps up to 6) ($41.50/night)
The rooms are set aside from Friday 17 April to Sunday 19, April.
You will need to show your USAC Collegiate Racing license to check in. If you
plan to purchase a 1-day license you will need to contact Major Weinstein at
925-586-5282 prior to your checking in so he can sign you on as his guest.
To reserve a room or apartment, call 719-333-4910 dial 0 and ask to make a
reservation as part of the "FALCON CYCLE CLASSIC."

The weather is shaping up for an ideal weekend. A few quick
items:
·We’ve had to move parking from where it
was last year. This year take your second right off West 10th Street onto,
Promontory Parkway. We’ll have signs and course marshals to help
direct you. Also, no warming up in the parking lots. Please pass this along to
your riders.
·We’ve scheduled the Women’s Open and
Men’s 1/2/3 races about an hour after their respective collegiate categories,
Women’s A and Men’s A. We hope you’ll stick around, throw
down 10 bucks, and race for either 60 or 75 more minutes.
Also forgot to mention that the cost per rider for the TTT will be $10.

Due to a lack of team time trials for this collegiate season we're going to run one during our race. It will be slotted in after a lunch break at noon before the juniors head out.
Race order follows:
Mens C / Women B / Men B / Women A / Men A
I know it is late notice but if you're teams interested in picking up some extra points and a good TTT practice for nationals here is a chance.

This rule applies to all conference and national races. To help Spencer and I keep monitor the full time status of all the riders in the conference, we are asking that each team submit a roster with Rider Name, License # (or one day), Category, and Verification of full time status (just a "Yes Full Time" will do). We will need the first roster by March 30th of all the riders who have raced with your team up to that point.
Just a quick reminder from our intrepid race promoter, Erick:
Hey Teams,
Being it is the first race of the season and there is lots, LOTS of
registration stuff to take care of we'll be set up to start with that
at 6:30am on Saturday. Please remind your riders to get their
Collegiate number first, THEN come register for the races. We'll see
you bright and early Saturday morning!!

Also, please ensure that all of your riders with current licenses have
the collegiate team and categories listed. Thanks!

Yep, it's almost time to pin on those lovely custom RMCCC numbers
again. The first races are this weekend. I wanted to give you an
update on race clinics for this spring.
Just to refresh your memories, we will be running intro clinics during
the road season for the women's B and men's C fields. This has been
HUGELY successful thanks to your cooperation and support. Above all,
we do these clinics to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun racing
experience. Use them as an incentive to get more people out to
participate! They don't have any excuses now. I understand that some
of the C's or B's are already experienced enough to know all of the
basics, but it's important to get everyone in the field on the same
page to ensure the ENTIRE field is safe. So, with that in mind, here
is a rough outline of the topics we plan on covering at this spring's
races:
CSU: Starting a race
CC: Riding in the pack
DU: Cornering
CU: Shifting
UNC: Braking
Mesa: Accelerations and decelerations
West: Drafting
Mines: Riding in a paceline
FLC: Attacking
AFA: Sprinting
Utah: No clinic, just race!
Special thanks to Caley Fretz of CSU for volunteering to help with
these again. You too can help the conference and earn free race
entries... ask Anne or I how you can get involved.
Two other sundry notes:
1. I still have a sh*t ton of RMCCC tee shirts, and I'll be selling
them for the low low price of $10 at the races, so bring cash or check
and support the conference.
2. RMCCC is on twitter! Follow the action at: www.twitter.com/rmccc.
See you soon!

Hi everyone-
Spring is rapidly approaching, so I figured I'd check in with you race
promoters to inform you of my plans vis-a-vis our lovely PA system. As
we did last year, the general policy will be as follows: For the
listed races, I'll be on-site with the PA system to announce
collegiate events. Most of the time it'll be best to only announce
crits, as road races and TTs are often not that spectator (or
announcer) friendly. I will likely not be able to announce the USAC
events, but you are welcome to use the PA, provided you sign your life
away to ensure that it won't be broken or misused. As of now, I'm
planning on announcing the following races:
CC
DU
CU
UNC
Mines
AFA
Note: CSU, if you'd like the PA at your race, see if the Air Force or
CC folks will help out and bring it up to your race. It doesn't work
out for me, logistically, to get it from CVA (down in Colo Spgs)
beforehand.
Looking forward to another great season!

Hello RMCCC, Welcome back. I hope everyone had a good holiday break and is ready for the spring Road Racing Season. There is a lot of information updated on the website - www.rmccc.org .
Be sure to renew your licenses, request upgrades, and renew your clubs.
With 2009 upon us and the spring collegiate road season
approaching, many riders are aggressively renewing their Collegiate and USA
Cycling licenses in preparation for the upcoming races.
A few reminders that will help everyone in this process.
1)I ask you forward this message to all
team members that may not be on the list serv to spread the word.
2)Renew early and preferably online.
It will save time from filling out the annual application at the first race you
do this season. Also you will get a hard copy of your license quicker
since the paper method depends on how quickly the race promoter submits the
paperwork.
3)Check ALL your racing Categories, and request
upgradesBEFOREor Immediately following
renewing. If they are incorrect when you renew, then they will
be incorrect when it is mailed. If you request the upgrade immediately following
your renewal, your license will temporarily pend to allow the upgrade request
to be reviewed and resolved, so the license you receive in the mail is
correct. If you don’t do this, then you will have to request a
reissued license which costs additional $$, which you don’t want.
4)If you have questions about the Collegiate
Categories, then please review the documents that explain it here.
5)Please look past Road racing as well to consider
your MTB, CX, and Track categories. Some of these disciplines
correlate with another discipline. For example, if you race either
Collegiate XC A or Road A, then you have the option to be licensed as a
Collegiate CX A as well per the rules.
6)New USA Cycling MTB categories are following a
numerical system in 2009. If you have questions of how they work or how
they relate to Collegiate, review the FAQs
here.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me or your
Conference Director, directly. Looking forward to a great year of
Collegiate Cycling!

I
wanted to issue a correction to the previously posted date for the upcoming
Collegiate Road Nationals in Fort Collins, CO. The date was originally
posted as May 15-17, which is INCORRECT. The city of Ft. Collins could
not accommodate this due to other city activities that made lodging double the
cost. The CORRECT date is May 8-10 and I’m sure that more
affordable and available lodging is a big plus as you make your travel
arrangements. If you have any questions, you can contact me or USA
Cycling National Events Director, Justin
Rogers. As the information becomes available, all information
will be linked from our championship page, here http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=97.
[CLUB
RENEWAL for 2009]
2009
is here and that means that every club MUST renew their club memberships with USA
Cycling to be recognized within your conference, so riders on your team can
purchase and attach their racing licenses to the club, and before any club can
permit events within the spring season.
There
are two options to renew:
*The
first is the quickest method and we all know how collegiate strive to be fast
at everything! Online the president or primary contact (that is currently
registered in the USAC database) can log into their personal MY USA Cycling
page and renew with a CC payment. Then submit the supplemental Club
Eligibility form found here http://www.usacycling.org/forms/collegiate/CollClubEligibility.pdf.
