Current team and individual points are NOW posted (sorry the individual ones were missing ) Please check and verify results.
In this email are four items relating to nationals 1 - Allocations, 2- Qualifications, 3- Rules and Paperwork, 4.Travel. Be sure to read it all!
Nationals Allocations are in.
In Division 1, we have been allocated 13 XC Slots and 10 slots. These are being allocated as follows:
The team allocations are: CU - 4 XC and 3 ST FLC 4 XC and 3 ST CSU 4 XC and 3 ST
The individual allocation is : Eli from WYO 1 XC and 1 ST
For Gravity CU, FLC, and CSU are being qualified as teams, so they may take gravity riders to round out their 8 men and 8 women per team allocations. Individual gravity riders with conference rankings in the top half of the A riders may also go- these riders must contact me and fill out a qualifying sheet (attached)
In Division 2 we have been allocated 21 XC and 16 ST slots. These are being allocated as follows Mines 6 XC 6 ST Mesa 4 XC 4 ST ( allocation would be 6 but we only have 4 so 2 slots are opened back up)
The remaining 11 XC slots and 6 ST slots will be awarded to individuals based on their conference points standing. Unless there are points that are very close, this determination will take place after the FLC Endurance Races.
For Gravity Mines and Mesa are being qualified as teams, so they may
take gravity riders to round out their 8 men and 8 women per team
allocations. ndividual gravity riders with conference rankings in the top half of
the A riders may also go- these riders must contact me and fill out a
qualifying sheet (attached).
Every team and individual going to nationals must fill out the attached qualification sheet and get it back to me ASAP - at the very least, FLC, CU and CSU need to respond to this email as to whether they will be using all of their allocated slots - if not these slots will be awarded to the other teams.
2. QUALIFYING
To race at nationals you must either race 3 races as A in your discipline (Endurance, Gravity), or race one conference race in your discipline and conference finals in your discipline / race category if it is available.
For Gravity, you can use one of the two FLC gravity races to serve as your conference race - you do not have to race both of them. However, to use the DS as a qualifying race you must race in both the qualifying and final round if this is possible - ie don't plan on racing the XC. For Endurance, you must race the XC at Mesa if you want to race the XC at nationals (or have 3 Endurance A races already) - same for the ST.
3. FORMS
All riders must fill out the attached qualifying form and return it to me ASAP. Also, don't forget to get your school to sign your student eligibility form.
4. TRAVEL TO NATIONALS Several of us have been discussing trying to share trailers for transporting bikes to national - Mesa for one should have a fair amount of room in our trailer and would be willing to share with another team. Let's all try to talk about this at FLC and see if we can save everyone some money.

Hello RMCCC A few updates for tonight (and more to follow tomorrow night) 1. Results and standings are posted - please check for accuracy. Those of you looking for gravity championship jerseys, please pay extra attention to make sure everything is correct before this weekend. I will accept protests until Thursday.
2. Conference finals for GRAVITY are this weekend at FLC. There will be an awards banquet on Sunday from noon to 2, so plan on staying and getting a free lunch and cheering for those crazy gravity kids! 3. Conference finals for ENDURANCE and TEAM are next weekend at Mesa State, there will be a banquet and awards on Sunday afternoon.
4. Bi-annual conference meeting is next weekend at Mesa State. The meeting will be Saturday night from 8 to 10 at the MSC campus (room tba) . This will not be a banquet - just a meeting - each team should have at least on representative present. A tentative list of topics is : Scheduling Road Season, Rules, Conference Growth, Intro Categories, ... I will send more details later, but if you have something you'd like to discuss let me know.
5. Scheduling Road Season. I am attaching a bid form for road race requests for spring. Bring your completed form to conference finals where we will set the race schedule.
6. Nationals - Check back tomorrow night for - Nationals Allocations, Nationals Rules and Regs - how to qualify, and the Nationals sign up sheets for invited attendees.
I've just confirmed that the Dacono bmx track will be hosting a FREE BMX race prior to the 4X race this Saturday. The free race is in no way related to CU or the collegiate series, but could be a great way to get some extra practice in before the collegiate event.
MTBs are allowed at bmx races, but you'll have to race the cruiser class. Note that pants and long sleeves are required to race at an ABA sanctioned event.
Registration is free, but I'm not certain what license requirements will be. You may need to get a one-day ABA license to participate. They'll be available at the registration booth.
BMX 12:00-1:00 Registration 1:30-2:30 Racing
CU Mountain Cross 2:15-3:30 Registration
3:30-4:30 Practice 4:30-5:15 Qualifying 5:30-6:30 Racing
1. There will be an officials clinic on Saturday 9/28 from 8 to 10 pm on the CU Campus - Room CHEM 145 - see me or Abby on Saturday at the races if you need directions. This is an excellent opportunity to learn to be an official, and be able to work as an official at races making big bucks and saving your team lots of money - BE THERE!
2. Overall individual results and rankings are now posted on www.rmccc.org . Please look through them and notify me of any errors. All currently posted results will be final after this weekend. Note, currently Super D is being applied to individual points and team points for both conference and nationals (for A riders). These points should not be used for national qualifications, but it is a bit of a pain to fix so I just left it in there for now.
3. Nationals. Several of you have been asking about team allocations for nationals. I do not have these yet, but should have them soon. In previous years we have been able to send the top three teams in each division and some individual riders. Also, the rule book states that up to 6 riders can be entered in the XC race provided the field sizes have not been exceeded. Teams are still limited to 8 men and 8 women.
Hi everyone,
We are going to have host housing available. We also have many people with
large yards/land that are willing to let people put up some tents! So if you are
interested in staying some CU Cycling members, please shoot me an email!
Thanks,
Abby

Hello RMCC and Brandon , A clarification on points for Gravity and Endurance Omnium. Our rule book states
10.2.7b. In the RMCCC, there will be a gravity and endurance Conference Champion for the mountain season and a single
Conference Champion for the road season. Conference championship standings will be determined by taking the rider's best individual points from 75% of the all conference events in that discipline (gravity, endurance or road) including conference finals. All conference events
count equally.
So for gravity there are csuDH, csmDH, wyoSupD, cuMX, flcDH, and flcDS = 6 races , and the top 4 results will count. The Mesa Super D will count towards everything but Gravity Omnium as this is being awarded at FLC.
For endurance there are csuXC, ST, csmXC, ST, wyoXC,ST , cuXC, ST , flcXC, ST and mesaXC,ST = 12 races so the top 9 results will count .

Hey Anne -
It's my understanding that racers hoping to get that top individual gravity conference ranking should attend the Wyoming Super-d event. Correct? Or will super-d not affect individual gravity rankings?

Hello RMCCC ,
Once again there is a lot of information in this email, be sure to read and pass along to your teams.
Results:USAC results from CSU and CSM races are now posted.I am still working on some issues with Men B STXC from CSM but all other results will be final as of Thursday 9/18 at 5pm.If you have not yet checked, be sure to verify your results (place, name, school).I will have division results and team points uploaded soon.
Officials Clinic:There will be a level C official clinic during the CU race weekend.I would like to schedule the best time for interested attendees. The choices are Saturday night (9/27) at 8 -10pm or Sunday 1-3 pm.Please email me if you are interested and which time. The class is 1 hour of lecture followed by a short test. After passing the test and purchasing a level C license ($35) you will be certified as a level C official.
Upgrades:Thank you to those of you who are taking care of your upgrades online during the week.Be sure to print your 'Authorization to Ride' and bring it to every race as verification of your new categories.

Nationals:Three main considerations for nationals
1.Upgrades.To race at nationals you must have a category A license in your discipline and race in one season race and conference finals in your discipline. 2.Qualifications.Riders racing at nationals must be full time students and must have completed on race and conference finals as a category A racer in their discipline (Gravity or Endurance)
3.Allocations.We do not yet have allocations for the number of teams and riders the RMCCC will be able to send to nationals.I will notify you as soon as we do.
Super D:The ongoing debate of how to regard super D continues. At the beginning of the season, Spencer and I (with input from the conference) decided to have super D count towards team conference points only and not towards upgrades or nationals points. However upon further review of the collegiate cycling rules, we have decided that this is not inline with the current rules (see rules listed below).Super D is currently listed as a "Gravity Event" in the collegiate cycling rule book and thus will be treated as a gravity event in the RMCCC.This means the Wyoming Super D can be used for upgrade points. While we are in agreement with following the rule as listed, both Spencer and I have reservations on this point. The downhill race at Nationals is an Expert level course. The reasoning behind requiring riders to be properly upgraded to A before attending nationals is in part a safety issue. We do not want completely inexperience gravity riders racing on this course as it is not safe.It is our feeling that a Super D result does not adequately indicate a rider's skill in a national level downhill. Please, as you are requesting your upgrades, or encouraging your teammates to upgrade, keep safety and skill levels in mind.
Rule Changes:Every year the collegiate board reviews the rule book. There are several updates being considered for this season. The proposed changes will be sent out soon.If you have a rule suggestion or change, let me know and I will see that it gets considered.
Whew! Thanks for reading this far, and thanks for everyone's hard work and good humor dealing with all the day to day stuff we do so we can be on our bikes.Happy riding and racing

Hello RMCCC, There is lots of info in this document, please read, pass onto your clubs, and respond as needed.
0. Results: Results for each race will be posted on USACycling.org and on rmccc.org (with division standing and points). Results are final Thursday of the week they are posted. It is your responsibility to check online results and make sure they are correct and email me with any corrections before Thursday. (Results from the CSU race will not be final till next Thursday as division standings are not yet posted on RMCCC).
1. Licenses and Upgrades (AGAIN). You must have a current collegiate license with your CORRECT category in order to race. It is best if you purchase this license online (www.usacycling.org ). After purchasing your license, request an upgrade (All new licenses are automatically given a D category). If you are upgrading to C or B for men and B for women in the mountain categories, this upgrade should happen automatically. If you are upgrading to A, you must submit results (either two top 5 finishes in B or Sport, or current Expert USAC license ) and then this upgrade must be approved by a USAC representative. After receiving your upgrade, print your current AUTHORIZATION TO RIDE and bring it to the race. Last weekend LOTS of riders were allowed to race without having the proper category. This WILL NOT happen this weekend. Get your upgrades!!!
2. Super D races for the RMCCC conference will count towards team conference points only. They do not count for upgrades or qualifications for nationals.
3. To qualify for nationals you must complete three races (or one race and conference finals) as an A racer in your discipline (either gravity or endurance). Conference finals for Gravity are at FLC on October 4th and 5th. Conference finals for Endurance and Team are at Mesa on October 11th and 12th
4. We need to vote on when to have our conference meeting. Either at FLC on October 4th or at Mesa on October 11th. Please email me if you feel strongly either way.
5. The CU race has changed it's venue's be sure to download the new flyer.
6. Track nationals is this weekend in Colorado Springs. GOOD LUCK TO ALL RMCCC RACERS
7. Colorado needs more mountain bike officials. I will run a category C clinic at one of the races if there is interest. This is a 2 hour class that qualifies you to officiate at races (and get paid). If anyone is interested, please email me.
8. Hmm... that's all I have for now. If you have concerns, or ideas of how to make our conference better - be sure to email me or Spencer. Also, if anyone is taking good pictures from the races and wants them on the rmccc web site - send them to me.
Ready for some amazing courses? We're prepping some of the best trails in the collegiate series and we're excited to have at you SolVista this weekend.
A few things to note before your arrival:
Courses will be marked by Thursday afternoon to allow additional practice on Friday.
Facilities are improved this year. SolVista now has a restaurant/bar, full service bike/rental shop, and pump track.
Camping is only allowed in the designated area. Look for signage above the base area.
Registration will be located on the second level of the lodge. Please register early.
XC is on Saturday, and DH/STXC are on Sunday this year.
DH course will be Cheeze-it to Tron to Drifter. The new 36+ foot double is only open to A and Open riders.
Lift tickets for DH are $10 per day, but only if you have registered. Discounted tickets are available for Saturday and Sunday, not Friday.
Races may utilize the same start/finish area. If practicing DH from 10-10:30 on Sunday, please DO NOT enter the STXC course as short track will be under way. We will have signage posted indicating same.
Due to course modifications, XC lap counts may be modified, but will be posted at the venue. Start times remain the same and total distances will be similar to those listed on the website.
Hello RMCCC Here we go again! This weekend is our first weekend of racing and it should be a lot of fun! A few things to help life run smoother. 1. Licenses. EVERYONE has to have a COLLEGIATE license. If you are racing more than one race this season, you should purchase an annual COLLEGIATE license for $30. You can do this online at www.usacycling.org - which will be much faster than trying to do it at the race.
After purchasing your license, print your "Authorization to Ride" as this will be your license until your official one arrives in the mail.
If you are racing in the B or C category, you can also purchase a one-day license at the race for $10.
2. Categories. Your license MUST reflect your correct category. If your license says category D and you want to race in the A's, you MUST request an upgrade. You can do this online - at www.usacycling.org . Upgrades to category B are automatic, upgrades to A require documentation of all races you have done. Please read athe rule book (online at www.usacycling.org or online at www.rmccc.org).
3. Registration. Registration starts at 6:30 am on Saturday. As this is the first race of the year, it may take awhile, so get there early. Be sure to have your license.
4. Uniforms. All riders must have 'idenifiably similar' uniforms to race. Your jersey must have the name or initials of your school and your shorts must either be solid black or your official team shorts - you CANNOT race in shorts or jersey with logos for anything other than your collegiate team.
Please pass this information to everyone in your club. Drive safely and I'll see all your smiling happy faces bright and early Saturday morning.
Hello RMCCC - Any schools interested in hosting 2009 MTB Nationals please read below.
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Lusk, Kelli<klusk@...>

Cc: Regional Coordinators <RegionalCoordinators@...>, "Matheny, Daniel" <dmatheny@...>
Dear Collegiate Conference Directors:
We're quickly approaching the 2008 Collegiate MTB
National Championships hosted by Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, NC. This is
the second-year of their two-year contract, so we're looking for a school
to host the 2009/2010 Collegiate MTB National Championships.
Here is the link to the 2009/2010 USAC-MTB National
Championship bid application. Please forward to potential schools who may
be interested in hosting the Collegiate MTB National Championships next
year. Ideally, I would like to have the 2009/2010 Collegiate MTB National
Championships ready to announce at this year's nationals, October 24-26,
2008.
As a heads up, here's the need to know info for the CSM event.
September 13 and 14, 2008: CSM Cycling hosts the Oredigger MTBChallenge @ SolVista. Events
include cross country, short track, and downhill. Visit www.CSMcycling.com for event
details.
Collegiate Track is in your back yard next month, so I’m
expecting maximum attendance and domination from the RMCCC. Seriously,
I’m calling you out!
If anyone lives in the Springs, we should offer up Host
housing opportunities to any of the schools/riders attending. I will throw
up my spare room for someone and I’m sure there are many others that
would be interested in doing the same. Anyone game for taking the lead on
coordinating host housing?
Also, if you don’t feel like you have the experience
to attend, the velodrome where the event will be has 3 races weekly.
There is a Tuesday set of races that is super low-key racing for fun that
consists of a short, medium, and long distance race. The Thursday races
are a bit more racey, as points and prizes are up for grabs. The same
format of short, medium and long is followed. Then on Saturday, they have
various racing and clinics. They even rent bikes for $5! I
even went and raced this week with no prior track experience so no one could
call me out on why I hadn’t done it yet.
Hey Folks-
I don't have any exciting summer stories like Anne. I've only been
working tirelessly for the past three months to make your conference
the best in the nation.
... just kidding, of course.
Anyways, Collegiate Track Nationals will be Sept 11-13 in Colorado
Springs. Please see below for details about the event. I have started
a discussion string on the RMCCC Facebook page to use if you are
looking for a carpool or shared housing:
http://www.new.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=6027&uid=2525651070
I'm planning on being there for the Saturday evening events. Let me
know if you have any questions.
See you all soon!

The 2008 USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships will be
held in Colorado Springs, CO on September 11th-13th. Details will be
posted on USAC's championship page as they become available.
Riders must meet the eligibility requirements outlined in Collegiate
rule 11.1 (basically full-time student in good standing in the current
fall semester), general qualification outlined in 11.2, and the
specific Track requirements stated in 11.7. This includes incoming
freshman that have enrolled but may not have started the semester yet.
Qualifications are at the discretion of the Conference Director for
Track championships so if the conference establishes any form of
conference track season, additional requirements may be established.
To compete in the championship, riders are required to hold a
USAC-Track category 4 or above. To compete in the Points Race, all
riders are additionally required to hold a USAC-Track category 3 or above.
Track category requirements are firmly established with experience,
starts, and results; so if you plan to attend the championship, it is
recommended that you pursue these requirements over the summer months.
Track upgrade guidelines can be found on page 9-10 in the USAC
rulebook, here.
Each collegiate team may bring a 8 men and 8 women. Each rider is
limited to competing in only three individual races.
Collegiate Track Championships will be ran under USA Cycling Track
Rules and regulations. Please review them in section 2 of the USA
Cycling Road, Track, and Cyclocross rulebook, including bikes that can
be used for each event in section 1J3.(a), here. The Collegiate Team
Pursuit is explained in rule 11.7.11.
Most conferences do not have conference competitions for a Track
season, but I encourage leadership within the conference to challenge
this. If there is a Velodrome within your conference the opportunity
exists to contact the manager and establish some races that may better
prepare your riders, teams, and conference to compete on the track and
ultimately at the Collegiate Track Championships. Best of luck and
hope to see all the trackies in CO in September!
All Collegiate Rules referenced can be located with the collegiate
rulebook found here:
http://www.usacycling.org/forms/collegiate/collegiate_rulebook.pdf.
Welcome back from what I hope was a fun filled and crazy summer. One of the highlights of my summer was being
on on l'Alpe D'Huez to watch Sastre launch his tour winning attack!Wow!But once again summer has to end and the fall semester and mountain bike
season is upon us. As you come back to school and get your teams together here
is a short list of items to discuss. Please read and pass along to your team.If you have any questions or would like to add any discussion items, let
me know.
1.Licenses:
Register teams / riders on USAC website and get licenses. This can be done at www.usacycling.org .Every team needs
to be in current and good (paid) standing. Everyone racing in category A must
have an annual collegiate license (not just a USAC license). If you are racing in the B or C categories
you may purchase one day licenses. When
you register as an individual, make sure your license category is correct for
mountain and be sure to list your collegiate team.
2.Categories and Upgrading:Collegiate categories have now been fully
correlated with USAC categories.This
means that you must follow USAC regulations for upgrading. It will work best if upgrade requests can be
made online before the season begins (for those of you who do not feel like you
are in the correct collegiate category).Spencer and I will be able to upgrade during the season at the races,
and we will be strictly following the categorization and upgrade requirements
listed athttp://www.usacycling.org/forms/collegiate/CollCats_CorrelationCharts.pdf
and
3.Races:The race schedule for fall is posted at www.rmccc.org .If you are
promoting a race, please be sure to check to make sure data is correct, get
flyers to me on time, and work on securing host housing for your race. The conference PA system and generator will
again be available to race promoters, provided you take care of it and keep it
in good condition. Spencer will be at the following events to
announce: CSU, UWYO, FLC. If you'd like to use the equipment on a
weekend that he will not be attending, please get in touch with him or Anne to
borrow it.
4.Conference Finals:Please note that conference finals are being
broken up over two weekends.Gravity
finals will be at FLC on October 4th and 5th and
Endurance finals will be at Mesa on October 11th and 12th.The overall team omnium and teams going
to nationals will be decided after the races at Mesa.
5.Conference Volunteers:There are four conference volunteer slots
available this season.Each volunteer
agrees to be at every race and complete their required duties in exchange for

We call it a classic because it harkens back
to the early days of grassroots mountain biking where the fastest were rewarded
with good prizes and all participants are rewarded with great courses, good
times and camaraderie with fellow riders.
As of 7/9/08 the extended loop has been
marked with orange flagging. Corral Draw is in stellar shape not counting the
10 downed trees that should get cut out next week.
The short course, just Hermosa, will be
marked with pink flagging one week before the event.
Expert Men and Women now have a choice
between the 38 mile extended loop and the short course, 20 miles - it was
previously determined by age. Most younger (19-40) experts should do the long
course - sandbagging will be punishable by a public flogging.
Please come prepared to camp out! Those who
want to camp out at the North Trail head on Friday night - we can transport you
and your bikes to the start line on Saturday morning. For those that want to
camp out on Saturday - we can pick up you camping stuff at the start line,
transport it up to the North Trailhead finish and then back down to the South
Trailhead on Sunday morning.
We could use a few more course marshal
volunteers - contact hagen_d@....
Hermosa Creek trail racing is back! Come one, come
all, to race on the high country trail that made Durango famous. There is a 38
mile course for Pro/Semi Men and Women and Singlespeed A, a choice of either
the 38 or 20 mile courses for the Expert Men and Women (3-5 hours), 20 miles
for other classes and Singlespeed B. Even better, there will be a post-race
BBQ/Campout hosted Russell Zimmerman of the Durango Cyclery (Food, beverages
and entertainment). Race sponsors have kicked in some great prizes – cash for
the top 3 Pro Men and Women (from the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic and The
Wilderness Society) and products from Sram, Boure, Continental, etc for the
other classes! Proceeds go to the Fort Lewis College Cycling Team.
Organizers would like to notify racers and other trail users that the race
course will start at the Lower Hermosa Trail Parking Lot and use the Hermosa
Trail (TR 514) to the North. The extended loop will continue onto Hermosa Park
Road (FR 578), Hotel Draw Road (FR 550), 1 mile of the Colorado Trail (TR 520)
and the Corral Draw Trail (TR 521) before returning to the north Hermosa
Trailhead for the finish. The camping areas at the North Trailhead are reserved
for the event Friday 7/25 through Sunday 7/27.

Hello RMCCC - Hope everyone is having a great summer and getting to ride lots! I just wanted to send out a kudos to RMCCC riders Mitchell Peterson and Colin Cares for their excellent showing in the U23 MTB World Championships. Way to go guys!!!
I hope everyone is having a great summer and anticipating
the collegiate seasons to come. I will try to make this a brief update to
highlight some items that I believe you need to know in preparation for the
coming seasons within your respective conferences and Nationals.
The 2008 USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships
will be held in Colorado Springs, CO on September 11th-13th.
Details will be posted on USAC’s championship page as they
become available.
Riders must meet the eligibility requirements outlined in
Collegiate rule 11.1 (basically full-time student in good standing in the
current fall semester), general qualification outlined in 11.2, and the
specific Track requirements stated in 11.7. This includes incoming
freshman that have enrolled but may not have started the semester yet.
Qualifications are at the discretion of the Conference Director for Track
championships so if the conference establishes any form of conference track
season, additional requirements may be established. To compete in the
championship, riders are required to hold a USAC-Track category 4 or
above. To compete in the Points Race, all riders are
additionally required to hold a USAC-Track category 3 or above.
Track category requirements are firmly established with
experience, starts, and results; so if you plan to attend the championship, it
is recommended that you pursue these requirements over the summer months.
Track upgrade guidelines can be found on page 9-10 in the USAC rulebook, here.
Each collegiate team may bring a 8 men and 8 women.
Each rider is limited to competing in only three individual races.
Collegiate Track Championships will be ran under USA Cycling
Track Rules and regulations. Please review them in section 2 of the USA
Cycling Road, Track, and Cyclocross rulebook, including bikes that can be used
for each event in section 1J3.(a), here. The
Collegiate Team Pursuit is explained in rule 11.7.11.
Most conferences do not have conference competitions for a
Track season, but I encourage leadership within the conference to challenge
this. If there is a Velodrome within your conference the opportunity
exists to contact the manager and establish some races that may better prepare
your riders, teams, and conference to compete on the track and ultimately at
the Collegiate Track Championships. Best of luck and hope to see
all the trackies in CO in September!
*Mountain Bike*
The 2008 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National
Championships will be held in Banner Elk, NC on October 24th-26th.
Details will be posted on USAC’s championship page as they
become available.
Riders must meet the general Eligibility and Qualification
requirements established in sections 11.1 and 11.2 and the additional Mountain
Bike requirements outlined in rule 11.8 in the Collegiate Rulebook.
Basically riders must be full time students in good standing in the current
fall semester and must have raced as a Category A rider at Conference
Championships and one other race OR as a Category A rider in their final 3
conference races in that discipline. This applies to both Endurance and Gravity
races.
The requirements for racing Collegiate Categories is
well-defined and is highly correlated with the USAC-Mtn guidelines. Full
explanation of all category requirements can be found here. To
compete at Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals, you MUST be a Category A rider.
If you currently do not meet the A category requirements (basically being an
Expert level rider) and plan to attend the championship, it is recommended that
you pursue these requirements over the summer months. Mountain bike
upgrade guidelines can be found on page 12-15 in the USAC rulebook, here.
Teams may bring a total of 8 men and 8 women to the championship
event, but 2008 guidelines regarding the number of riders that may start and
score points are outlined in rules 11.8.8-9.
This is the final year in Banner Elk for the Championships, so
if your school/team is interested in hosting the 2009 and forward championship,
contact USACs Director of Mountain Bike Programs, Kelli Lusk (klusk@...). The bid
application is found at, http://www.usacycling.org/forms/mtb/09_National_Champ_Application.pdf.
*Cyclocross*
The 2008 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championship will
return to Kansas City, KS on December 11th-14th for its
final year. Details will be posted on USAC’s championship page as they
become available.
Riders must meet the general Eligibility and Qualification
requirements established in sections 11.1 and 11.2 and any additional
Cyclocross requirements outlined per the Conference Director. Basically
riders must be full time students in good standing in the current fall
semester.
Teams may bring 8 men and 8 women to the championship event.
Not all conferences have conference competitions for a CX
season, but I encourage leadership within the conference to challenge
this. As of now at least 3 conferences are hosting a CX season with a
combination of stand-alone Collegiate CX events or piggy-backing on existing
races by convincing the promoter to add collegiate categories. If this is
something of interest within your conference, please contact your Conference
Director or myself. See you crazy crossers in Kansas!
*Petitions & Suggestions*
These rules, requirements, and qualifications are designed
with as little ambiguity as possible, but if something is in question, riders
may petition the Collegiate Board of Trustees. That process is outlined in
Collegiate Rule 2.3.3. If any suggestions to these rules are on the tip
of your tongue, the Collegiate Board of Trustees always welcome input.
This process is outlined in Collegiate Rule 2.3.4.
*Upgrades*
All upgrades are processed through online support requests
that are created/submitted through your personal My USA Cycling Page.
Please submit all upgrade requests in a timely fashion to allow adequate
processing time so you will be able to race in the category where you are best
suited based on your experience. Note that racing outside of the category
that is indicated on your annual USAC license is a rule infraction (USAC Road,
Track & Cyclocross Rule 1H1.) that is punishable as defined within Rule 1C.
Please request upgrades in advance to ease early season registration
hassles and to avoid any penalties.
The deadline of June 10 to receive bids for the 2009 and
forward USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike Championships has been extended to
July 2nd.
Several factors including event management experience, venue
quality, location, infrastructure, accessibility, course quality, operating
budget, sponsorship potential and community/volunteer support will help to
determine the final selection of the venue and local organizing committee.
For more information and instructions on how to submit a bid, visit USA
Cycling’s Mountain Bike webpage or click
here. Please contact USA Cycling Mountain Bike Events and Program Director,
Kelli Lusk, at 719-866-4668 or klusk@... with any questions
concerning the bid process.
I have attached the flyer for a race we are putting on. There
are no collegiate classes, just thought all would want to do a cool race.
Please pass onto your clubs.
I cordially invite you as a collegiate team
or individual to the Tour of the Red River Gorge, http://www.cyclethegorge.com/; a two-day, three-stage omnium event that is part of
the Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic Race Series held in Kentucky, June
14-15.
There are several exciting parts of this
race. The event serves as a selection event for several Junior and U23
categories to attend Worlds, National Talent ID camps, and a European Race
Camp. Thus some of the best young riders will be in attendance for
this event. In addition to selection component, the race offers Collegiate
Open categories for the ITT, Road Race, a twilight Crit and best of all;
a Collegiate Recruiting Open House scheduled for Saturday
afternoon. There will be snacks and beverage provided at the Open
House and the collegiate races are open to all collegiate categories.
I, Daniel Matheny-National Collegiate Cycling
Manager, will be on hand to present what Collegiate Cycling is all about and
answer questions. Then participants will have an opportunity to meet
individually with the collegiate representatives in attendance. We encourage
you to bring information about your college club to present to Juniors and
their parents.
If you have any questions or would like to
RSVP a spot for the Open House, please be sure to contact the race organizers
at raceinfo@... or
dmatheny@....

Hi RMCCC,
Thanks for your patience and understanding this past weekend. It's
never an easy decision to cancel a race (let alone two), but I think
we made the best of it.
Here is a quick recap of our conference meeting, held on Saturday:
*Rules issues
-We'd like to decrease the number of prime sprints in Women's B and
Men's C categories. Those crits end up being so hectic and short, so
it seems sensible to have fewer primes.
-On a related note, let's try to make these crits a little longer - 30
min or so would be ideal.
*Nationals Qualification
-This was a pretty big issue, considering the cancellation of our
Conference Championship RR and TTT. Here's what we need to do:
Anne and I will submit all RMCCC petitions, related to the UWYO
cancellations, directly to the board on your behalf, so the board will
only have to deal with one request. In order to do this, we need the
names of the riders who your team is trying to qualify, their resumes
and any other pertinent information related to their eligibility to
race Nationals. Please also confirm that they had traveled up to
Laramie for the entire race weekend. I am trusting you all on this,
so please be truthful.
I anticipate that the board may allow some riders and not allow
others. I don't expect they will make a blanket decision on all,
since each case is unique. Please let us know if you have any
questions or concerns.
These petitions should be submitted as soon as possible. I'm
thinking a good deadline would be Friday, May 2.
-Also of note, USAFA had questions about whether they could send a TTT
team, as they did not qualify as a "Team." This will depend on how
many riders CC will be sending and whether they will field a TTT
squad. We'll have to discuss this to figure out how many starts will
get rolled down to USAFA.
*MTB Schedule
-Due to the challenge of hosting gravity events at Conference
Championships, the schedule will look a little different than normal.
We will have one race weekend after Conference Championships.
Everyone in attendance agreed that this was an acceptable solution.
This is the preliminary schedule:
9/6-7: CSU, Beaver Meadows, XC,STXC, DH
9/13-14: Mines, Sol Vista, XC, STXC, DH
9/20-21: UWYO, Happy Jack, XC, STXC, SD
9/27-28: CU, Boulder area, XC, STXC, MT-X
10/4-5: FLC, Durango, XC, STXC, DH, Slalom or MT-X - CONFERENCE
CHAMPIONSHIPS
10/11-12: Mesa, Grand Jct, XC, STXC, SD
Hope this is helpful.
Thanks for a great season, and good luck at Nationals!
