If you would like to camp this weekend, there are a number of US Forest Service campsites near the trailhead for Saturday's races. Follow the directions on the flyer to the race. As you climb into the Snowys after passing through the town of Centennial you will come to a USFS visitor's center. It may be closed this weekend, but will be open Friday afternoon. You can stop there ad ask for directions to the sites. If they are closed continue driving along 130 toward the race course for Saturday (this is the same location as last year's Saturday race). About a half-mile past the Ranger Station you will come on a small campground on the left with sites you should be able to camp at. None have been full the last few weeks. Two miles up the road from the ranger station is Sand Creek Road, just past the site of Saturday's race at the Little Laramie Trailhead. There is also a campground there and the Forest Service tells me there are enough sites that everyone ought to be able to camp together.
For Sunday's race at Happy Jack, if follow directions to the race and you continue on the road past the parking lot where the race takes place you will come to a series of campsites at the end of the road on the left. These may also be available, although they are first come, first serve.
The forest service number in Laramie if you need further info is 307-745-2300, and the main Laramie office is located in West Laramie, right at the turn-off onto Highway 130 from Snowy Range road if you are following the directions to the Saturday race on the flyer. If you get into town before 5:30 they can help you there as well.
Remember, it can get cold at nights here.
Those who are looking for motels may find the following list useful. It would be best to book as soon as possible in advance as it will be busy here this weekend with our football team playing a home game against Kansas.

Hi Ryan- here's the flyer for the race this weekend. Fancy (and large)
graphics have been removed to reduce the file size.
Everyone:
Please tell your riders that they need to be at registration before it
closes. I will not be able to add you to the start list on the computer
if you come later. Also, this is a football weekend in Laramie, and as
such, accommodations will be tight. there are campsites in the Snowys
very close to the race Saturday and Sunday at Happy Jack. Please let me
know if you are interested in camping and I'll get the UW team to notify
the USFS. If you camp, be aware that the elevation at Happy Jack and in
the Snowys is above 8,000 feet. thanks everyone- see you this weekend.

Hi All,
We finalized a few detail for the race this weekend
last night. Everything is coming together perfectly so
this should be an awesome event. We have rented a ton
of campsites at Beaver Meadows so everyone should plan
on bringing a tent. I am not sure if there are still
rooms available at the hotel. You can call Beaver
Meadows to check/ make reservations at 970-881-2450.
The race start time for the XC race has been set for
9AM at the homestead/ race headquarters on Sunday
morning. Everyone will ride the same loop. We will
start in five minute intervals with the top guys going
first.
The short track races will start at 9AM with the
beginner classes going first.
The DH will be held in the afternoon after the Short
track is complete.
If anyone has any more questions feel free to contact
me by email or call my cell 970-217-6693
Thanks,
Ken

Mesa State is not hosting a downhill, sorry. The XC and short-track are set
to go though.
The courses are located at the base of the Monument at the trail head of the

Hi Ken:
In response to your inquiry about DH races this season, I've forwarded
my answer to the group as likely others have similar concerns. As far
as I know, in addition to CSU's race, there will also be DH events at
Mesa and Durango. Laramie will not have any DH events (they tried but
could not get permission to use the ski resort they hoped to use just up
the road from the event Saturday) and I've heard no word on the Golden
race.
All DH/DS racers should aware that this year, for the first time, we
will be keeping two separate points totals for the conference, one for
XC/Short-track events and another for DH/DS. Conference champions will
be crowned in both categories- XC and DH. We will no longer include DH
points with XC points. Overall school championship points will be
slightly modified, with point totals depending on the sum of points
across DH/DS points totals and XC/ST points totals.

It has just come to my attention that the Angelfire Nationals dates have been changed. the new nationals dates are Oct. 9-12. I don't know the reason for this change, but apparently it was finalized in the past week. You can get all the info you need at the following website regarding the event:
This date change will pose a problem for our conference since final qualifications will not be determined until our final race in Durango the weekend before (Oct 4-5). I will do everything I can to make sure we expect no late fees if people cannot register until after final qualifications are known.

The NCCA Track page is now live on our website. Can you please distribute

This is all the official race information for Collegiate Track Natz. All
the necessary forms are available here (look deep in the eligibility page

If you could send it to the committee, the Conference Directors, and the

Hello All,
Earlier this spring a few friends asked me where I got my kilt that I use to
change at races. I don't believe the company is still in business. Last week
I went to MI and visited family and stopped by to see what my old seamstress
could do. The photos below are the final product. If you are interested in
one please let me know, they are very comfortable! Cost is $40
http://KsonK.com/Kilt
She is able to make them out of high quality red plaid cloth. The front has
a large pocket on the inside should you feel the need to carry your wallet
around. Velcro keeps the kilt closed. The kilt fits people of all sizes as
the waist band is elastic. To add a little flair she has added pleats.

Dear everyone on the conference lists,
I'd just like to send out a quick (if belated) update on the photos
from collegiate nationals by this ("unofficial") race photographer.
As of just over a week ago, a full set of race photos has been posted,
spanning all races from the DII criteriums on Friday to the men's
road races on Sunday. They're all up at:
http://blackisle.lcs.mit.edu/arielh/2003_nationals/
Still to come are a coherent set of post-race photos (podium shots)
and the occasional non-race photos. However, in the meantime please
let me know if you'd like to use any photos on the web or in printed
club materials, or if you'd be interested in some top-quality prints.
Feel free to pass on this link to friends, family, the rest of your
teams, and anyone else who might want to have a look. I'll also put
up an illustration of the full level of detail in the photos soon.
Congratulations to everyone who raced and helped make the nationals
weekend a great success -- and a lot of fun to shoot!
Have a great remainder of the summer, and happy 4th of July,
Ariel Herrmann

I apologize for being out of touch if any of you has tried to contact me. By now you may have heard that I had a pretty bad crash on Roger's Canyon last Wednesday (May 28th). In a nut-shell, for those who don't know what happened and those who might have heard something, here's what happened- I went for a ride alone out 9th St. to Rogers Canyon outside Laramie. When I got to the top of the climb I turned around and started back home dumping it into the big ring and top gear for the rush of the descent. Coming into the second last turn on the downhill (the tight left before the right turn that takes you up that short steep hill where the last house on Roger's is) I experienced a front tire blowout. I ended up going off the road, going over the handlebars and somersaulting into the blasted rock on the right side of the road. I sustained a lot of injuries, including a broken back- one crushed vertebra (L12 for those who know what that means and a cracked T12), two cracked ribs and a lung contusion. My head also hit a sharp rock but did no serious damage. My helmet was a write-off though, and the foam on the left side was completely compressed, leaving a bruise on that side of my head but no serious injury. Apparently, had I not been wearing a helmet, the head injury that would have resulted would likely have made the others irrelevant. I have a lot of cuts and bruises too. Immediately after the crash I could not stand up, nor could I feel the toes on my left foot. Luckily for me another rider (Mark Jenkins) was on the road behind me and stopped to help when he rode by the wreck. He organized help for me, kept me still and when another rider came by who had a cell phone, he made sure an ambulance was called. Feeling did return to my left foot while I was at the side of the road and in the hospital it was determined I was not likely to be paralysed. I was in the hospital on my back from Wednesday night until Saturday morning before I was allowed to leave in a back brace. Due to the lung contusion and the back trauma I could not breathe properly and was on oxygen until Saturday, and some sort of internal bleeding or swelling also caused my temperature to peak at 101F Thursday night. All in all, I was in rough shape. I was conscious throughout the accident and recovery, and was able to talk to people. My wife Anne has come home for a week to help me get around, and special thanks go out to Nat and Bekah, Pat and Erika who took care of the dogs after the crash.
For those who are wondering how fast I was going, I don't know, but the maximum speed recorded on my cyclocomputer for the ride was 92 kph, likely recorded on the straight going into the turn where the crash occurred. For the non-metrically inclined, that works out to about 55mph.
If you have emailed me, or were thinking of contacting me in the next few days please have a little patience, I been slow to get up and around or take care of email. I am told my prognosis for a full recovery is good, and I will be allowed to get on a trainer in a couple weeks and on a bike in mid-August. Until then though I will be unable to get around very well and will have to limit my summer commitments and work schedule. If you want to get hold of me, the best way is likely on my cell 202-329-0291. You can also call the house- 307-742-9210. I will not be spending too much time in my office for awhile- that might be a good thing!
Anyway, I hope you are all having a good summer. Be careful and wear your helmet.

cleanest copy that we have before sending it to him.
MWCCC - I would really appreciate it if I receive something from you guys

Hi -
One small correction: the 2:45pm Crit start time is for Women Division I.
Sorry about the confusion.
Thanks,
Paul
P.S. Sorry if you're getting this the second time.
This link will open a spreadsheet of the conference champions and teams going to nationals. Please open the RMCCC tab and make sure that the team members listed for your school are correct. These are the only qualified riders approved to ride at nationals from our conference. Please let me know of any errors or omissions. If at the last minute a rider must be replaced by someone new on the team (for example due to injury or illness), please let me know right away so that I can update the NCCA and the organizers.
thanks

Some unrelated notes that I might as well stick in this email:
- We are still not providing shuttles. We are way over budget. We encourage
teams with extra space to give rides to those who need them. However, if you
are stranded and can't find a ride, please contact us and we'll find something
for you on an individual basis in a private car. We can also accomidate
stranded bicycles. If you contacted us already, and we didn't help you, please
do again. We've gotten a bunch of emails recently.
- If you arrive early in the Bay Area and are looking for some good rides,
please do contact us. Any of us can, and will, give you exactly the type of
route you're looking for!
- The previous note being said, the simplest, most scenic route you can do from
the host hotel is to ride the Bay Shore trail, which runs north from
Emeryville, starting at the Holiday Inn on the west side of the freeway. It's
flat, usually very windy, but it's hard to get lost on the path!
- Please contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

A word of caution- when you reply to any messages from the RMCCyling group, remember that just hitting reply will generate a message to the whole group. To send a message only to the sender of the email (say just me for example), you need to change the address in the message from RMCCycling@yahoogroups.com to the name of the person who sent the note you are replying to.
I know everyone will need to get used to that, but in the end, this will increase the amount of discussion within our conference. thanks everyone

Rob,
Do you have the stickers to put on the NORBA license's? I need one, please. Also, if you have copy of the proposal that you sent to the state could I read it...just to see what I'm getting myself into :) or email it to me, either way.
I am visiting Michelle tomorrow...how much do you think we need for Nats? I'm thinking $1700 for entry fees ($120ea.*5), everyone's banquet ticket ($30*5 + $50 for you), gas (8@$45), and lodging ($100*5 nights)???. I realize we will have to pick up some of the tab, but maybe we can figure that out after we get back, then reimburse the club.
I will call HED tomorrow morning and get a hold of Hertz tomorrow afternoon, due to no one being there yesterday.
Everyone:
A reminder-
1) It is very important that everyone attending Nationals has a valid USA
Cycling license- USCF or NORBA as long as you have the sticker and it is up to
date. In the past the organizers have preferred to see a USCF license though so
if you have one, this makes things much easier sometimes. If you do not have a
permanent license you will need to contact USA Cycling as soon as possible to
get one before registration. They can make sure you have one but anyone without
a valid license must take care of this immediately!
2) Remember to bring the collegiate eligibility forms to registration. They are
available on the collegiate page of the USA cycling website
(www.usacycling.org). These MUST be signed and stamped by your school's
registrar to ensure you are a full-time student and eligible to compete. Once
this form is filled out, bring it with you to registration.
I am still trying to get info on courses and times. There is a conference call
tomorrow of conference directors and I am hoping to find out more then.
thanks

To add interest to our group- if you have some photos you would like to share of RMCCC action, please feel free to upload them to our email group website. to do so, go online to www.yahogroups.com, and sign in, then choose our group (RMCCycling). If you have not set up a Yahoo account- follow the instructions. It's easy. It would be nice to share with everyone in the conference what's happening at each school. If you upload pictures, please create a folder for your school.
Thanks everyone!

Everyone:
Nathanael Ksiazkiewicz [ksonkpro@...]at CSU has been kind enough to
volunteer his time to create a conference Yahoo group. This group will
automatically send an email to every team in the conference by using the address
RMCCycling@yahoogroups.com. I have added almost everyone on our bulk email list
to the group, as the use of the group will accomplish a number of important
things for us. First, it allows everyone a forum for discussion. Secondly, it
allows us to post files, etc for races and standings which sometimes clog up
people's email accounts. Finally it allows an easier means of communication. I
hope everyone will explore the group online and use it. I am hopeful the
bulk-email list we have been using will be a thing of the past in a few weeks.
Until then , please be patient as many of you will receive messages twice.
thanks
