Hi everyone-
I hope you're enjoying the rest of your fall. By the way,
congratulations to everyone who made it out to North Carolina for
National Championships. The off-the-top-of-my-head calculation is that
our conference won six national titles! Most importantly, I think you
all put the most effort into your Halloween costumes, which also makes
me proud.
Anyways, Anne and I had some meetings at USA Cycling HQ this past
weekend, and one of our discussions was about cyclocross. I've seen a
number of you out at the races this fall, and we think it's time to
discuss whether the RMCCC should consider setting up some sort of
series for 'cross.
Here's the caveat: Anne and I can't do it. We need one of you, or
perhaps someone you know (not necessarily a student) to step up and
dedicate some time to organize it. This role would require a talented
and committed individual, but it will pay off down the road. Trust me,
taking on tasks like this opens doors for future employment — I'm
speaking from experience.
The only other conference to organize 'cross is the ECCC, and they
just piggyback the races onto existing local events; they don't even
break out the categories. Collegiates race with UCI elites. But there
is more than one way to skin this cat.
So let's start the discussion here. We may hold a collegiate meeting
at Nationals in Kansas City, so stay tuned for info. I will be in KC,
so if a formal meeting falls through, we could still round up some
RMCCCers to chat.
Cheers,
Spencer
