Hello Collegiate Fat Tire enthusiasts,

General Information:

The fall season is in full swing and the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships will call Banner Elk, NC home for their 2nd and final year on Oct 23rd-26th.  The full information can be found here, http://www.usacycling.org/events/2008/collegiatemtb/.

Qualifications:

Qualifications will be announced to you by your Conference Director once your seasonal points are calculated.   You must receive an invitation to attend.  The best way to understand if you qualified or not is to take a look at the Rules Page that is linked on the championship page above or the rulebook.  You need to complete a minimum number of race starts in A category for both Endurance and Gravity to qualify for both disciplines.  Qualifying for one, doesn’t mean you qualify for both. See Collegiate rules 11.8.10 and 11.8.11.

Pre-Registration:

The link to Sports Base Online is found at the link above as well.  Please make sure to update your personal profile with your correct collegiate school name.  This is important for tracking Individual and Team Omniums in the results.  We highly recommending pre-registering so you don’t incur an onsite late fee.

Individual Omnium:

New for 2008!  To contest the Individual Omnium, you must score in points in both one Gravity race and one Endurance race.   See Collegiate Rule 11.8.14.

# of riders entering a race:

Each team may bring a maximum of 8 men and 8 women (per rule 11.1.5)

The field limit for ALL XC races is 169 riders.

The field limit for ALL STXC races is 127 riders.

There is no field size for DS or DH.

New for 2008! Teams may enter up to 6 (six) riders per team in each race until field size is reached based on the Order of Call up.  **Remember your team must be allocated these start spots from your Conference Director.

# of scoring riders:

New for 2008! Only the top 3 scoring riders per team in each race score points toward the team omnium.  Any lower scoring riders from the same team , displace points.  See Collegiate Rule 11.8.9

Order of Call up:

See collegiate rule 11.3.2.  You definitely want to be defending champion,  Conference Champ, or the 1st appointed  rider on your team!

DH Qualifying:

Riders MUST complete a qualifying run on Friday, Oct 24th to be seeded in the DH finals on Saturday, Oct 25th.

DH Lift Access:

Riders need a lift pass for each day they plan on utilizing this service.  A day pass is $10 and available when pre-registering on Sports Base Online.  Make sure you purchase a lift pass for each respective day of practice and racing.

The Sugar Mtn lift does not run at warp speed, so please plan accordingly for the amount of practice time you would like to have and when your Finals run will start.

Banquet:

Don’t forget to get your banquet tickets when registering online.  The banquet usually sells out and you don’t want to miss the awards and the good food that the lodge will be serving up!  If this is your first Collegiate MTB Nationals, I recommend you don’t miss the banquet.  It’s a Collegiate tradition!

Packet Pick-up

You MUST present the Collegiate Nationals Eligibility form, http://www.usacycling.org/forms/collegiate/collegiate_nationals_eligibility_form.pdf, signed by your institution.  Without this form you WILL NOT be allowed to pick up your packet.  Please get these signed now and include all members of your team.

Team Building Meeting:

Keep your eyes peeled for information at packet pick-up in Banner Elk on location for a meeting of the minds in Collegiate cycling to help continue growing your program.  Things like recruiting, best practices, race promotion, team leadership, fundraising, etc will be discussed.

See you in Banner Elk,

Daniel
