USAC Collegiate Cycling Team of the Year!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #80 of 997 |
Rams Cycling Team is pleased to announce that we have been named Collegiate Team of the Year by USA Cycling. We are very excited to learn of this recognition. In a statement released earlier today, Lydia Bosch of USA Cycling said,

"Overall divisions were determined by how well-rounded and active a club was in proportion with its number of club members.  Judges based their decision on the number of cycling events a club held, outstanding competitive results, clinics and seminars held for member education, and activities that helped the club and the community."

This award didn't come easily.  Over the past two years we have worked very hard to build a nationally competitive program. This past summer we created Friends of Rams Cycling, an alumni organization to keep CSU grads up to date on team news. So far, it has been a huge success with over 170 members on our email list and supportive leadership from the FRC Board of Directors. This Fall that hard work began to pay off  when Hana Fiserova won the Womens Omnium title at Collegiate National Championships and strong results from other team members put us in 5th overall for Team Omnium. This month we began an aggressive fundraising campaign to build The Rams Cycling Endowment Fund. This fund will support annual collegiate cycling scholarships to be given at Colorado State University beginning in the Fall of 2004. We are very excited to be the first major university in the United States to offer cycling scholarships. Our program is also bolstered by Ram Wheels, a community pilot program to encourage bicyle use as means of transportation. Launching in May of 2004, it will put hundreds of bicycles on the campus of CSU for students to use freely.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make Rams Cycling a success: CSU Club Sports, Steve Owens of Colorado Premier Training our coach, Eloy Mares of the CSU Bookstore, Gu and Gu2o, Lee's Cyclery, Rudy Project, Ultimate Support, Verge Clothing, Beth Hill of Student Affairs, MK Thompson, the Friends of Rams Cycling Board members, our Advisor, Professor Don Estep, the team officers and numerous volunteers.

Happy Holidays,
Nathanael
