Hi RMCCC-
Happy New Year!
I've been doing some Kwanzaa shopping for our conference and we now
have a PA system and generator for use at our races. This system is
technically owned by our USAC local association, the Colorado
Velodrome Association (big thanks to CVA), but we are guaranteed
access to it for all of our spring road and fall mountain bike races.
Here's what this means:
I will be available to announce the races this spring with the PA
system. It's really important that this equipment stay in good
condition, so either Anne or I will be responsible for it.
Here is the tentative list of races I'll be attending, which I can
announce at:
UNM, Metro/DU, CU/UNC, CSM, USAFA/CC and UWYO
-If you're not included, talk to Anne or I and we may be able to work
something out.
Here are some basic criteria that I think should be met in order for
us to take the time to set up the system and announce a race:
-Central location, near registration, parking and, most importantly,
people who want to listen.
-Good weather. Electronics + pouring rain = fried Conference Directors.
-Action. I'm kind of doubtful that the time trials will be worth
announcing, since we don't really have a good way to do real-time
splits and results, plus the racers usually only come by the finish
area once. Similarly, some road race courses, like "lolly-pop" loops
would probably not be suitable. Crits are ideal.
Hopefully having some regular announcing will really contribute to the
quality of our events, which will in turn make it easier for you all
to recruit and retain riders on your team who are psyched to come race!
Lastly, please check out our revised 2008 road season schedule. We
have updated it, now that we know CSU will be hosting nationals.
Congrats to the folks up in Fort Collins.
RACE PROMOTERS: Don't forget we're doing Intro to Cycling Clinics for
Mens Cs and Womens Bs at races this spring!
