Hello RMCCC,
As your new conference directors, Spencer and I (Anne) we would like to say hello, and to take a moment to go over some items for the spring race season. There's a lot of information in this email. Please be sure to read it, pass it on to your club, and let us know if you have any concerns or suggestions. Also, check out the conference website www.usacycling.org/rmccc. We are both very excited to be working with all of you this year!
- RULEBOOK. The 2007 RMCCC rulebook was posted last November for comments. I have taken into account the comments given and also updated the rulebook to go with the 2007 NCAA rulebook. To make it easier, I have also combined these into one rulebook which is attached. I have attached the word form of this document so you can easily see the RMCCC portions as well as a few comments. The PDF form of the document is on the RMCCC website. You should download it, read it and be sure everyone on your team has read it before the season starts. If you have any comments or concerns, be sure to contact me.
- RMCCC CLUBS: I am attempting to compile a list of schools competing in the RMCCC and contact information for each. Please look at the attached document and email me with School, Division, Website, contact and contact email if it is incorrect or missing.
- RACE NUMBERS. Race numbers will be provided at each spring race by the Conference Directors (CD). Each school and category has designated number series. Each rider needs to keep their number for the ENTIRE season (and be sure to have it with them at each race). If you loose or forget your number, the CD's will sell you one duplicate for $5. If you upgrade you must get a new number in the appropriate category.
- CATEGORIES. The 2007 NCAA rules are very strict on race categories, here is the rule:
4.2.5 In order to race in a category A road mass start event a racer must either:
• Be a current USA Cycling Road category 3 or higher licensed racer or
• Have completed four collegiate mass start road category B races or
• Receive prior documented permission from the conference director to race in the A race It is the responsibility of each rider that wishes to race a category A road mass start event to document compliance with this rule.
Currently there are no exceptions to these rules in the combined NCAA / RMCCC rulebook (which is attached to this email). However, the CD's may make exceptions in the following cases (these should be put into the 2008 rulebook)
a) A rider who has competed in collegiate mass start A races in previous seasons (i.e. prior to this rule being used, or coming from another conference where permission to mote up was given)
b) A rider who has scored 60 or more points in collegiate mass start B races (so that a talented rider can move up after a single weekend.)
To more easily track the eligibility I am attaching a form that will need to be filled out by EVERY rider entering a mass start A race (men and women.) If your USA cycling road category makes you eligible to race A events, you must turn in this form present your USCF license at registration. If prior races make you eligible to race A events, you must fill out this form with the events' information, turn it in at registration, and the CD will get all forms submitted to verify the information. If it turns out you were not eligible to race A's, you (and your team) will lose any points you scored, and those races will not count towards eligibility in future A races. If your category or past races make you eligible for A events, you do not need a CD to sign off on the form prior to the race.
- REGISTRATION: You must have a collegiate license to race Category A. If you have not updated your license for 2007, log on to www.usacycling.org to do so. If you plan on getting a USAC Mountain or Road license, register for your collegiate license first and then add on the USAC license. If your school has not yet renewed its club license, you cannot register for your individual license since you must associate your license with your school. If this is the case, contact your club president and get them to renew your club license. Riders racing in Categories B or C may purchase 1 day licenses.
- HOSTING RACES: If you are hosting a race this season, you must have your flyers posted on the RMCCC site at least 2 weeks before the race. Be sure to look at the rulebook to see all the items that need to be on your flyer. If you need help in organizing your race, there is a good document on the collegiate page (www.usacycling.org/ncaa ) on how to put on a race, or feel free to contact me or Spencer. Also, there is a $200 fee for all schools hosting races for conference fees (see rule 5.2.13a in rulebook).
- HOST HOUSING: Several other conferences have implemented host housing at conference races. Each school promoting a race designates a contact person who finds host housing and then can be contacted by teams coming to the race. I think this is an excellent idea. If you are hosting a race, designate a host housing contact and put them on your race website and email the RMCCC with information.
8. CLINICS: Spencer
is working to develop race clinics to be given during the race weekends. The first clinic will be at the CU
race. It
will be integrated into the first few laps of the Men's C and Women's B races
so all participants in those categories will
have the opportunity to improve
their riding skills. If you have any
suggestions for clinics or other activities you'd like to see at
race weekends,
let us know.
Whew, I know that was a lot, and it's probably not all of what we need to go over. Look for more emails in the future, and be sure to let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
