Camping for races this weekend.   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #39 of 997 |

Everyone:

If you would like to camp this weekend, there are a number of US Forest Service campsites near the trailhead for Saturday's races.   Follow the directions on the flyer to the race.  As you climb into the Snowys after passing through the town of Centennial you will come to a USFS visitor's center. It may be closed this weekend, but will be open Friday afternoon.  You can stop there ad ask for directions to the sites.  If they are closed continue driving along 130 toward the race course for Saturday (this is the same location as last year's Saturday race). About a half-mile past the Ranger Station you will come on a small campground on the left with sites you should be able to camp at.  None have been full the last few weeks.  Two miles up the road from the ranger station is Sand Creek Road, just past the site of Saturday's race at the Little Laramie Trailhead. There is also a campground there and the Forest Service tells me there are enough sites that everyone ought to be able to camp together.

For Sunday's race at Happy Jack, if follow directions to the race and you continue on the road past the parking lot where the race takes place you will come to a series of campsites at the end of the road on the left. These may also be available, although they are first come, first serve.

The forest service number in Laramie if you need further info is 307-745-2300, and the main Laramie office is located in West Laramie, right at the turn-off onto Highway 130 from Snowy Range road if you are following the directions to the Saturday race on the flyer.   If you get into town before 5:30 they can help you there as well.

Remember, it can get cold at nights here.

Those who are looking for motels may find the following list useful. It would be best to book as soon as possible in advance as it will be busy here this weekend with our football team playing a home game against Kansas.
