Hi all,

Hope everyone is having a nice, relaxing summer. Unfortunately, with
it officially being August, the summer is winding down and the new
school year is almost upon us. With this being the case, I figured I
would just check in and shoot around a couple of ideas for the
Running Club this year.

First off, I'd like some suggestions of what people would be
interested in doing this year. This could be anything: races people
would like to do, different workouts during the week, suggestions on
any aspect of the club, etc. are welcome. To avoid spamming ideas to
everyone on the yahoo group, just email them to me at
djh0240@.... I'll compile all the feedback I receive and present
ideas at a club meeting we'll have the first or second week of
classes. Hopefully these will get my creative juices flowing so that
we can boost membership and participation and have a great year.

Next, in talking with our president from last year, Adam, we both
felt that it would be a good idea to phase out the yahoo group that
we've been using to communicate and instead use the group that we
have on facebook. Since anyone can now join facebook and the vast
majority of us are already on it and check it on almost a daily basis
(at least I do), this seems to just make more sense than keeping the
yahoo group. This being the case, I'm letting everyone know now and
I'll send out another message before the start of freshman
orientation through yahoo, but once orientation starts the week
before classes I'd like everyone to start using the facebook group
exclusively. If anyone has any glaring problems with this, just let
me know and I'll try my best to be accommodating.

Last, but not least, I'd like to make a quick plug about the club
fair on Sunday August 31st, the day before classes start. It's going
to be from 1-2pm in the Gordon Field House. Everyone who wants to
should stop by and say hi so that we can see new faces and get info
out on club activities. Coincidentally, on that Sunday, Nike is
having what they're calling the Human Race 10K. Basically, Nike is
promoting both running and their Nike+ merchandise by having this
worldwide `race.' If you have Nike+ gear, you can sign up on their
website, and get access to a bunch of training tools and whatnot. On
race day, you run and log your time onto Nike's database. Then,
you'll be able to compare your times with others across the whole
world. I think it's a really cool concept; however, I don't have any
Nike+ gear. That being said, I'd still like to get together a group
of willing souls to participate in the afternoon after the club
fair. It would be a great way to kick off the school year and
promote healthy living on the campus. If anyone would like to
participate in a 10K or has some Nike+ gear that we might be able to
borrow, just let me know. As an aside, I don't plan on using this as
a real `race' as Nike is calling it, more as a casual fun run to meet
people and catch up (also because I'm planning on racing a half-
marathon that morning).

Well, sorry for being so long winded, I tend to do that from time to
time. I'll send out another post more than likely the week before
freshman orientation with details on the club day, first meeting of
the year, etc. In the meantime, send me ideas for this year!

Yours in running,

Dave Howe

Hello everyone, for those that might not already know, Karen's Walk is
this Sunday!

This is a very convenient race for many of us, because it's on our
certified 5k course on campus!

Race time will be at 10am, starting from behind Grace Watson
(Gracie's). Race proceeds will go to the University of Rochester
Medical Center, for research in Cardiomyopathy.

So yeah, if you didn't already register, and you're affiliated with
running club, meet me there and we'll cover the race registration cost :)

Hope to see you there,
Adam

Since we didn't meet the participation requirement for the hazing
prevention presentation requirement that SG implemented for sports
clubs this year, Neil (from tri club) has helped to organize a make-up
presentation on Friday 4/25 (tomorrow).

What: Presentation on hazing by Bryant Lopez from the rugby team
When: 6pm Friday 4/25
Where: Building 7B room 2050

If you have some time then, drop by and help show some support of the
club to SG (I believe at least someone from SG/CCL will be there). I
don't think the presentation will be long.

Thanks,
Adam

We've been doing about 10-12 miles at a reasonable pace. It's nice
around Mendon since there's not much traffic on the roads and there
are a few good hills. Maybe in a couple of weeks we can try the trails
too, we've stuck to the roads so far.

Hey adam,

How far do you usually run for the long runs? I haven't been going and
running with the club in a while, but getting 5 miles in everyday. I
am due for a long run though.

Yes. The club has a variety of runs at different times during the week.

I’m not sure exactly what they are this quarter, but I’m sure someone will answer you soon about that.

If not, then you might want to email directly Adam Cornwell, the Club President at ........

"Adam Cornwell (RIT Student)" <abc5565@...>

BTW:  there is a fun 5k run/walk happening on campus Sunday, May 4th, at 10 a.m. called Karen’s Walk/Run. It’s a fundraiser for research into the causes of a fatal heart disease affecting post-partum women. I believe it is free for students (maybe its $5 at most),  and it offers t-shirts and post-race food.

Hello Samantha,

If you are an early bird and you don’t mind running with faculty and staff, there’s a low-key running group that heads out every Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. from S Lot 52 weeks a year.

All are welcome, no pressure, different distances and speeds.

Hey all,

There's a 5-7 mile trail race at Mendon Ponds this coming Wednesday,
4/16. As I don't have evening classes on Wednesdays and have wanted
to check out the trails at Mendon, I'm planning on going. The race is
at 6:30pm and costs $10. I'm more than willing to drive anyone that
is interested, just let me know (preferably by Wednesday morning).
Information on the race can be found at www.yellowjacketracing.com

Hope to see some of you Wednesday,

Dave

Hey guys,

So I'd definitely be up for a long run this weekend. I'd prefer to go
Saturday morning, but that's just based on my personal preference, not
on school-related activities. If Sunday morning is better for
everyone, I'd be down for then too.

who wants to go and when? I want to say Sunday since I have something

Last weeks race was great, congrats to Bryce for getting 3rd in his

Hello, looks like it'll be nice for tomorrow's race!

If you'd like to go and live on campus and want a ride, please let me
know. Note that the club will unfortunately not be able to pay for
this race, so if you have not already pre-registered, it will be $25
for day-of registration.

Ok first of all, We'll be meeting to do a longer-ish run tomorrow
(3/29) at Mendon Ponds park at 9 am, at the Stewart Lodge (in the
park). We'll probably be trying to go for at least 6 miles. I know the
weather doesn't seem the greatest right now, but there's nothing like
the feeling of accomplishment in the face of adversity! ...right?

Anyway, if you need a ride from RIT, let me know.

Secondly, because of some issues with Student Government right now, we
will not be able to pre-register or pay for the Spring Forward 15k as
a club. This was something that came up somewhat suddenly that I don't
think I'll be able to resolve in time. That said, it's $20 if you
preregister (until april 5th), and $25 day-of. You can register online
or drop by Fleet Feet.

I believe Bryce and I are planning on going anyway, so it would be
great if anyone else could still go.

All the race details are at
http://www.yellowjacketracing.com/Spring%20Forward.htm

Hello Adam,

I would love to join you for a run this Saturday at Mendon. I'm off campus as you know though so you wouldn't have to worry about me carpooling with you. As for the 15k race, I would like to do that also. I could get together with you 9:00 tomorrow if you'd like. I'm thinking the engineering building main lobby would work. If that time or place doesn't work, call me on my mobile at 585 719 5433 or drop me an e-mail.  Btw, how much does the Mendon race cost?

Hi ho Run Club Members and Others,

Just a note here to let you know of a run/walk and fundraising
opportunity coming up this April 19, a Saturday, indoors at the Gordon
Field House track.

A team, sponsored by Wednesdays Children, a weekly running group of
faculty and staff on campus, has been formed to participate in The
Relay for Life on that Saturday. The event is a fundraiser for the
American Cancer Society. It runs from approx. 7 p.m. Saturday night to
7 a.m. Sunday morning. Participants sign up for either half-hour or
hour blocks of time and run or walk around the Gordon Field House
indoor track.(Of course, you can always stay longer if you want.)

We have a fundraising goal of $240 and registration for our team is
$10 apiece, although all members are free to raise more.

For more information contact me or go directly to the link below and
sign up electronically.

Hope some of you can make it.

Ah, and to add on to that since I forgot...

Until it stops snowing I'm thinking we'll run inside, and meet in the
SLC. On Fridays it'll be outside whenever it's reasonable (hopefully
starting tomorrow). Hopefully in a week or two it'll be outside all
the time!

Okay, it seems that based on everyone's schedules it'd be
unfortunately very difficult to set some reasonably number of times
where the majority of people would be able to join in, but such is the
nature of these things.

So first of all,

Tuesday: 6:15pm
Thursday: 6:15 pm
Friday: 9:00 am
Saturday: TBD

I'm won't really have a chance to run on Mondays and Wednesdays, if
someone wants to volunteer to sorta head up a run then, we can add a
time for those days.

For the weekly distance run I mentioned- it would be really nice to go
outside of campus for that, so I'm thinking we'll wait a couple of
weeks and see if the snow melts a bit so we can get some good trail
running in, probably on Saturdays at something fairly reasonably like
8 or 9 am. I'll post something else about that in 2 weeks or so.

and next, Races! I'd like to head out to at least a few races this
quarter, and luckily it looks like theres a whole bunch to choose from.

-I was looking at the Spring Forward 15k distance run as a
possibility- Sunday April 6th at 8:30 am. Anyone interested in this race?

-The Run for Health 5k at Genesee Valley Park is usually a good race,
that's going to be on Saturday, April 19th.

-And also Karen's Walk/Run 5k will be on May 4th this year, and will
be on campus (the certified 5k course, same as the brick city 5k)

I'll be sending more info on elections in a few weeks, since we'll be
needing some people to keep the club going for next year, and
hopefully help spice it up a bit!

Adam,

I run around lunch time. Somewhere between 11 and 1. Would love to
have some company. I'm off, way off, campus and don't get here too
early and don't stay too late. Weekends are right out, for me.

Thanks,
Dean

Weeknights are a bit hectic, so I'd be interested running earlier in
the day. Fridays or Saturdays work best for me for the longer runs.
