Re: [RITRunClub] Running Club: Winter 2006-07

Hi Ben (and all),

The Freezeroo series features ........  1) heated shelters/roaring fireplaces at all races,  2) door prizes,  and 3) post-race amenities, like bagels, apples, water, soda, etc. Often GRTC members will bring a dish to pass, which has included homemade chili, deviled eggs, etc.  (Here's a thought:  the Running Club might want to come up with a dish that they would like to prepare and share with everyone along with the other post-race refreshments. You might make a small sign that says "Compliments of the RIT Running Club.")

As for T-shirts:  no t-shirts are provided for each race, although GRTC does have some series shirts, usually long-sleeved, for sale. These often have cool logos on them .

Again, a suggestion:  it would be cool if everybody who has one wore their Running club sweatshirts to the races.

And, finally:  it's always cool to bring the Club banner and set it up. It's a great way to start a conversation and let people know about the Club and its activities.

P.S. I will be running Ogden this year so I'll see everyone there. It will be my first time doing this course. Let's have a ball!

    Happy running!

peter

Hello everyone,

Attached is the running schedule for Winter Quarter, based on your availabilities. Please note the times and locations- some days there will be 2 runs the locations vary. Please feel free to show up at whatever times work best for you. Let me know if you have trouble opening the attachment- it is a JPG file. I’ll paste the times here as well:

Winter 2006-07 Schedule:

*Mon/Tues/Weds/Thurs- 7:00 PM- meet at the indoor track inside the Field House (the new track)

*Monday morning – 8:00am – meet inside the SLC entrance on the quarter mile side

*Wednesday morning – 7:00am – meet in S-Lot- we’re going to piggyback off of Peter’s group- “Wednesday’s Children”

*Friday morning – 10:00am - meet inside the SLC entrance on the quarter mile side

RACES THIS QUARTER:

1) Saturday, December 9th, Freezeroo 10K #1 (Ogden, NY) – race starts 10:00am, we’ll leave RIT around 8:15ish from the front of the Field House- more info/carpool details to come

2) Saturday, January 27th, Freezeroo 10K #4 (Powder Mills Park) – race starts at 10:00am, same deal- we’ll leave around 8:15ish

3) Cats Triathlon (late February, exact date/info TBD)

So here’s the deal. I’ve registered both of these events with Student Government (SG), the registration is only $12, so the running club will pay the entry fee for whoever wants to go. That’s right- totally free! I’m not sure what the deal is with T-shirts or amenities at these events (Peter do you have any insights on that?) but the point is – it’s free- so why not? Remember- all abilities/speeds are encouraged in this club- so if you want to run/walk/hop 6.3xx miles- please join us!

Now, what I need you to do: fill out the attached PDF form or visit http://www.grtconline.org/Freezeroos/freezerooentry0607-4.pdf and print one out. Print the form and put it in the Running Club Mail Folder. This is located inside the RITreat (in the SAU- stop in by the SG office and there is a huge bin with all the club mail folders). Leave your form in the folder and the club officers will take care of your registration with the Running Club’s funds. Since we are going to Freezeroo #1 and Freezeroo #4, naturally- only check those boxes! You can do one or both if you like- but please, only sign up if you are definitely going to do it. They won’t refund the club if you change your mind later. No need to include any money, just fill out the form and we’ll pay for you. You must fill out the form if you want to participate in either race. SG may ask us to have you sign waiver forms on the day of the race too.

Lastly, I’d like to welcome back our president, Travis Thomas, who was on co-op during the fall. Travis is a multi-year veteran of the club and sounds excited to meet you all. Remember that Travis and I are both graduating, so keep in mind the positions you might be interested in running for when we hold elections in February. Travis’ email address is hurtlerusa@yahoo.com.

Live long, eat your vegetables, and run with us! This is going to be a great quarter. Enjoy the break…

-Ben
