I first met and photographed Quanne about three or four years ago in
Brooklyn. I knew then that he was a very gifted bodybuilder. As a
few years passed, I kept coming back to the photos of him. He was
simply superior to most of the people I had photographed at that time.
I decided he needs a lot more exposure, so several of us helped him
get out to the Mr. America in California in 2004. He didn't win his
class. A fellow with a lot less stage presence, but more symmetry
did. But Kelvin Fountano, the promoter of the Mr. A., said that if he
brought his legs up to the level of his upper body, he might even be
able to take the Mr. America title.
Several of us helped him get to the Miami Superbody earlier this
year. The promoter of the show, Lou Zwick, said that he felt Quanne
has an almost "perfect" upper body, but he needs to bring his legs up
and improve his presentation, both things that Quanne has been working
very hard on during the last few months.
We're all anxious to see how he does in the World Championships in
Hollywood later this year. This will be on the weekend before
Thanksgiving. Lou is being merciful by holding the contest before
instead of AFTER the holiday.
Anyway, I am sure that if Quanne keeps working at his legs and his
presentation, he can soon turn pro and will be a force that will be
difficult to beat.
