Roger, there are other guns designed to close upon
seating a full magazine.
For me, automatic closing of a slide on a loaded
magazine on a DAO pistol is no problem. Since you
raise the issue, it is a problem for you.
You want a suggestion?
Check the hold open notch in your slide and the slide
stop. Something has become worn or rounded, and you
can probably restore the function you wish with a few
strokes of a file.

I went out and shot a Taurus Millennium PT-111 that we have had for a
while today. I shoved the magazine (full) home with the slide locked
back and the slide released. It startled the crap out of me :-). If
I seat the mag easily I can pound on the mag baseplate (with my hand)
all I want and the slide stays locked back until I release it. The
unintentional slide release thing happened every time I slapped the
mag in. Ideas? I put a magazine in like that on every pistol I have
with no problems. Under stress it would be considerably, harder I
suspect, but is it a habit I just have to break? I am, I think, only
doing it hard enough to ensure proper seating. I welcome any input
you may have.

You are not alone in your frustration with Groups overrun with spammers or which
become useless because of the demise, figuratively or literally, of their
owners/moderators. But I think you may have given up too easily. In the past
when I have had trouble with Yahoo, an explanation sent to the right place has
achieved the results I sought. Yahoo Groups have become very useful, so it might
be a good idea to sort this out before you miss any more fun.
Have you searched the list of existing Yahoo Groups lately? There are more than
eighteen hundred firearms- and shooting-related Groups:
http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=firearms&sc=-1&sg=1010&ss=1http://sports.dir.groups.yahoo.com/dir/1600069100
Many of these might interest you. I have friends who held back from using Yahoo
because of an awkward initial exposure in years past. When they got over their
annoyance and tried the new Yahoo Groups, they found Yahoo much more straight
forward than it used to be -- easier to navigate, faster, and better looking,
too.
It's worth a try.
Jack
In addition to firearms, I have an intrest in old Formula racing cars and
airplanes. One of the aviation lists I subscribed to was a very specialized
list that was abandoned by its moderator, started accruing spam, Yahoo! wouldn't
do anything about it, or turn over administration to the participants, we had to
go off and start a forum.. then everybody un-su*ed from the list. Bunch o'
bother. Fooy on Yahoo!, if I can work around 'em I will, or I'll get along
without them. On most of the Yahoo! lists I'm on, if sobody makes a reference
to something on the sites web page, when I try to go there, instead I get a
pop-up that wants me to sign in or subscribe. I know about this now, and when I
see a reference to something internal to Yahoo! I just ignore it.

Heh, heh.. OK, Jack, I'll believe you. BTW, I subscribed to the list directly,
not through Yahoo!, all they have is my e-mail address.
Several years ago, I signed on to a Yahoo! group, the took all my info and I had
a password and all. The group I susbscibed too became moribund, and I didn't do
anything on Yahoo for a year or so, at which point I found another group I
wanted to join, so I signed in and gave 'em my password, they sent back a
message that that name and password were taken, I'd have to create another one.
I sent back that the reason that the name and password were taken is that they
were taken by me, and that I am in fact the person I say I am. To no avail,
they were determined that I should create an new identity, I told 'em to f--
off, and don't do Yahoo! stuff anymore if I can't just subscribe to the list
through Majordomo.. Lifes too short.
I don't currently have any matching carbine/pistol combos, but I think its a
good idea. I could get an AMT longslide in .30 carbine, or a Camp carbine in
.45 ACP. Is there anything not a Contender in 7.62x39? I recall president Bill
banning the ammo cause it was AP pistol ammo, and he wouldn't lie about
something like that would he? Hell , I've seen revolvers chambered for .45-70,
the M43 round ought to be a breeze..
bk
That's news to me.
And there are several options in your Yahoo groups options to maintrain
your privacy and control emails.

I just participated in the poll and there were NO additional questions,
personal or otherwise.
Sorry to burst your bubble, briankk, but Yahoo offers you -- right up

information first required to get on this Yahoo Group, and the choice to
have NO backwash from advertisers. If you'd like to know how to do that,

Heck, I'm having a .50/70 pistol made (Encore). Now I need a .50
Trapdoor. It *should* fire the 12.7x44R ammunition well (rim size only
difference) and that will make another pairing, since I have that one
covered.
I have a Marlin 94 in .44 mag, and a Super BlackHawk and Redhawk to
cover it.
Marlin Golden 39A and a few pistols. Many more .22 rifles, of course.
I have a .500 S&W HandiRifle, but I don't want that one in a pistol,
except maybe another Encore barrel. It makes a good 45/70 replacement,
with more frontal area at the cost of long-range performance.

Exactly, a poll of this magnitude needs to have many more choices,
unless the information sought is only for the calibers listed.
I like the .30 Carbine in the Ruger Single action to go with the M1
Carbine. I have a .44 mag Super Redhawk to go with my .44 lever action
carbine.
Lots of options.

Have both 9 & .45 carbines, am interested in accuracy tips. I took the
trigger group out of my .45, diassembled and did some stoning/polishing
which really helped the stiff trigger. have to be careful here,
polishing is all it will stand but it does help. I have a 2X red dot
sight on the .45 - it does great but in the search for tighter groups
I'm always open to suggestions and will freely give any advice asked
for. I have handloaded for my .45 and Remington 'Golden Sabers' 185 gr
and Power Pistol powder did the best. It doesn't do too well with lead
slugs, 'Laser Cast' did the best there and light charge of Bullseye.
Leading was evident after 50 rounds and difficult to remove, I won't
use them again.
Anyone bedded the stock of either of these carbines? muzzle brakes?
receiver sights? any accuracy mods? they are fun 'blasting guns but I'm
convinced of the accuracy potential there, say for varmints at 100 or
so yards.

Anytime I go out to the country and know I'll be able to shoot, I pack
my Ruger Mark I bull barrel with 5 loaded mags, Charter Arms
Pathfinder with a few speed loaders, Remington Nylon 66 (a sweet
carbine if there ever was one) with a 6 tube (90 rounds) speed loader,
and a few boxes of assorted ammo. I never come back with rounds in the
mags or loaders and usually wind up doing some mag and speed loader
recharging.
The only reason I don't take those guns to the range every time is I
don't like having so many weapons that I have to wheel them in.
You can't beat .22's for plinkability. Usefulness for self defense and
hunting is debatable, but as Tom pointed out most survivalist
checklists will include .22 firearms.

Those headstamps are both owned by Remington, but one was originally
the Peters company and the other was the very old Union Metallic
Cartridge company. I suspect that the two "brands" compete against
each other in in-company profitability and so forth. Years ago, I
used to buy blue-box Peters ammo from Western Auto. Many years ago. I
still have some of that in 22LR.
