I don't like the question.
First of all, the scenario is ambiguous. Is this a one-on-one
encounter? Is it a civil strife scenario? Is it peripheral to a war
zone where there are organized enemies slugging it out? Is it a
grizzly in the wilds of Wyoming? I think I would act differently,
depending on circumstance.
Secondly, if this is a "practical carbine" situation, what's my
carbine? If it is my imminently practical Marlin 336 in 35 Rem, I
don't need to hit the center of mass but one time on most threats. If
it is my aluminum receivered FAL in 9mm Para, I might want to put more
than one shot on target, depending on the circumstance.
