AK mods more work than I thought   Message List

Re: AK mods more work than I thought

Your barrel diameter where the front sight is should be the standard
0.575". Guess what? The standard AK74 front sight goes on at a
barrel diameter of 0.575" (except some Romananian ones)!

Install an AK75 front sight housing, and take a 5.45x39mm AK74 brake
(original), and open it up to allow the 7.62x39mm bullet through.
Now you have a threaded muzzle brake and a bayonet lug. (I know this
will work, as a buddy of mine did it to a "beater" pre-ban AK he had.)

All, I've been reading this group for a while but this is my first post. I have a Maadi ban-era AK rifle that I am now modifying into the rifle that I want....

I have never been a fan of the pin on muzzle brakes as I have seen 4 of them fly off during firing. 2 on SKS's and 2 on Mosin Nagant rifles. Only one of the...

J, you are absolutely right. My gun is a Century MISR that was sold with US made parts and a regular buttstock and pistolgrip. The muzzle mics out at .456"....

The Maadis are Russian guns for all intents and purposes. The Russians brought the factory over from Russia completely. I'll mike the barrel under the front...

Only one pin on brake flew off on the first shot. The others took from 5-15 shots before they flew off. So one was misaligned from the start but the others...

Thanks Rick. I think that is the best idea I have heard yet as far as the break is concerned. Is there any forseeable issues with replacing the sights or will...

I cannot recall offhand if the divots in the barrel will line up with the pin holes for the AK74 front sight -- but that can be fixed with a hand file in...
