From my read of the article, the gunfight started with a .410, fired
to little or no effect, but was ended by a hit to the aggressor's hip
with a .30-06.
Either way, more "power" than typical self defense handguns. Even
a .410 compares QUITE favorably at "house" ranges to just about any
common defensive handgun. But a .30-06 to the hip? Worst ammo
selection possible would STILL yield a wound that could gag a goat or
make a mortician puke with a pelvis hit.
