Re: AK Vs SKS (was Digest Number 425)

The Mini-30 is a great gun, but they should have designed the rifle
so it could function with the lacquered steel case ammo and the .310
bullet instead of the .308 bullet. This is the very reason I went
with my SKS verses the Ruger in 7.62x39.

As far as the AK goes, well it is a fun gun to shoot but my SKS's are
more accurate than any AK I have every fired, they just dont look as
cool as the AK.

I had a Mini-14 about 15 years ago and enjoyed it a lot, but the
front sight is annoying since its so LARGE. Another thing with the
Mini-14, the barrel is so thin that it heats up fast and accuracy
goes to crap really fast, at least it did in my rifle. Steel cased
laquered ammo is still a no-no in the Mini-14, close tolerences and
gumming will lead to function problems.

The AR would be a great choice if you can afford it. It will be your
best bet for a varmit class rifle. Just dont try an use it to deer
hunt with, bullet is just too small and fragile for ethical, clean
kills on deer. Some people have no problems with the import laqered
steel case ammo in the AR, but like the Ruger it is designed with
close tolerences and unless well maintained while using the cheap
ammo it to will begin to have problems.

Well, thats my honest opinion, precise and to the point.

and cons of each gun. I'm considering trading my Ruger Mini 30 in on
another rifle. The contenders are AK47, Mini 14, or AR15. Opinions
are wanted from all, particularly those who can be rational and
control their temper without blowing their top.{SNIP}.
