Thanks for the useful info, Jon. I got mine in February and have
had a blast with them. Here are some of my observations:
* When I started using em, some parts were rubbing and they honked
like Canadian geese. A little spray graphite fixed that.
* The knee strap is useless. I bought some nylon webbing from REI
and made straps that I wrap three times (starting behind the knee,
then crossing in front of the knee bar, then behind the calf). I
also found that big fat knee pads are crucial.
* I agree that the foam is fragile -- tape is good.
* When I first got mine, I found jumping difficult, because I'm at
the low end of the 7090 weight range (I weigh 70 kg / 160 lb). I
still have to work to get to max height, and I can't go over about
4.5 feet without maxing them out. I've built stuff with fiberglass,
and am considering trying to make some springs that would be "6080"
(that is, a range of 60-80 kg, so that I'd be in the sweet spot
rather than the edge).
* If you're going to try flips, at minimum I'd say:
- learn flips on a trampoline first (back layouts, not tucks)
- use a helmet, wrist guards, and elbow pads
If possible, try stilt flips in safety lines at a gymastics place.
I took mine to Trapeze Arts in Oakland.
Who else is having fun on these? Anyone else taking them to Burning
Man this year? We could do a group costume ...
