To whom it may concern:

I feel the advanced and intermediate should play two 18-hole rounds.
Either have both rounds played in one day, with an earlier start, or
one 18-hole round each day. If the late start was to accommodate
working players then they were probably local players meaning two
days of play isn't necessarily an overnight stay. If the late start
was not to accommodate workers then have two 18-hole rounds in one
day so out-of-towners only play one day.

This Sunday ( 6/17 - start at 9:00am ) Don and I will be on the course
with a small backhoe most of the day... we'll be cleaning up the dirt
piles around the teepads.

If you are planning to help with the Pro Course... PLEASE DO SO...

If you are available, we can use some help with raking and final
leveling/cleanup around the TeePads... bring a rake and shovel... or
use the extras we have on hand....

If we have time, there is also some graffitti to be cleaned up...

See you Sunday,

A HUGE THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED WITH THE CONCRETE TEEPADS!!!!

The New TeePad project is about 90% done... we still need to finish
clearing the area around the TeePads...

DO NOT DISTURB THE AREA (1ST 12-INCHES) IMMEDIATELY NEXT TO THE
TEEPADS!! This area has already been packed and shaped to shed water
away from the concrete.

In particular, we need to pile the dirt in a way that the park crew
can pickup the dirt and move it to a more appropriate location. That
means, we need to rake or shovel the dirt around the TeePads into a
single pile of removeable dirt while at the same time, clearing a
throwing path and walking space (make it level and neat) around the
TeePad itself.

This can be done over the next few weeks.... but needs to be done by
June 27.

If you can help, just bring a shovel and rake, and put your muscle
into the effort. If you don't have these tools, contact me about
coming out on Sunday Morning (or other time) when I can bring some
extra tools for you to use.

This posting has an updated SCHEDULE...

We are looking for some committed help to get new concrete teepads
installed on the Rec Course during May. We understand that this is an
aggressive schedule but this will be necessary to get it done in time.
We also understand that this is during the week but that's when the
park maintenance crew and the concrete trucks are available.

Other things will be done on the course (like a new Bulletin Board /
Storage Shed / Fairway Signs / Etc.) that will take up additional
efforts later, but the TeePads are our primary concern.

Here's the quick rundown on the work schedule that we agreed with the
park for the next month or so in order to have the concrete teepads by
the Keystone Games......

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Friday May 4
At Pinchot Wood Shop Making TeePad Frames

Friday May 11
Backhoe on the course digging out teepads and
putting stones in as necessary for the base

Sunday May 13 (All Day)
On the course framing at 12 teepads for concrete

Monday May 14 (Evening)
Complete any remaining work on the framing

Wednesday May 16 (Morning)
Concrete truck delivers to Course where skidloader
and manual labor available for getting concrete
to 6 of the teepad frames

Friday May 18 (Morning)
Concrete truck delivers to Course where skidloader
and manual labor available for getting concrete
to the remaining 6 of the teepad frames

Sunday May 20 (All Day)
Teardown the first 6 poured TeePads - Reset these

Backfill around first 6 Teepads and landscape area.

Monday May 21 (Evening)
Complete any additional setup of Frames for 6 TeePads

Tuesday May 22 (Morning)
Concrete truck delivers to Course where skidloader
and manual labor available for getting concrete
to the remaining 6 of the teepad frames

Friday May 25 (All Day)
Teardown the last 12 poured TeePads
Backfill around Teepads and landscape area.

Sunday May 20 (All Day)
Backfill around Teepads and landscape area.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

We are looking for helpers to place the concrete (moving it about
within the frame to fill the space evenly), pull the reinforced grid
into place with rakes, and rough level the concrete in the frame with
a 2x4 screed.

Helpers should have high rubber boots to protect your legs from the
concrete. We have some extra rakes and shovels if you don't have any
to bring.

ALSO, if anyone has EXPERIENCE finishing concrete, YOUR HELP WOULD BE
GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Please contact Don Dillon or me (Ken Lemkelde) as soon as possible if
you are able to help make this project happen on schedule.

Thanks for your support in the past and a pre-thanks to those who are
willing to pitch in now.

I am pleased to announce that the PA Keystone State Games has
decided to include Disc Golf sport into their summer sports competition
for the 2007 games for ages 12 and up. They have appointed me as the
Director of Disc Golf Sports and selected the Recreational Course at
Pinchot State Park for the first annual tournament. The various levels
of competition for various age groups will be scheduled for the dates
July 24 thru 26, 2007
The event is an excellent opportunity to promote the sport of
Disc Golf in PA and surrounding eligible states. Your assistance will
help make this inaugural event a success. This event has the potential
of encouraging players to develop their skills and advance to more
challenging courses and membership in the PDGA.
If you would like to support this project with your time and
labor, please contact me through the www.PinchotDiscGolf.com website or
directly at Don@.... Further details and information is
and will be posted at:
Lets work together to help promote this sport for all ages!

The Keystone State Games are Pennsylvania's largest amateur athletic
festival. Modeled after the Olympic Games, they are annually held
multi-sport competitions providing Pennsylvania's amateur athletes an
opportunity to compete against athletes from throughout the
Commonwealth in the Summer Games, Winter Sports Festival, and the
Pennsylvania Senior Games.

Since being established in 1980, the mission of the Keystone State
Games has been to promote physical fitness and sports activity as a
health improvement and disease prevention strategy for all
Pennsylvanians and to create an expanded, coordinated and citizen-
sponsored program of physical fitness and amateur athletic
competition.
www.KeystoneGames.com/SummerGames.htm
This is an excellent opportunity for the entire Disc Golf community
to promote our sport in an event that will not only draw statewide
attention, but most likely the attention of surrounding states as
well.

This event has the potential of enticing many new players to try
their hand at the sport, as well as encouraging many amateur players
to develop their skills to compete in an Olympic-like event. As such
events begin to include Disc Golf in their agendas, it will surely
swell the ranks of local and national Disc Golf organizations along
the way.

Your assistance is important to making this inaugural event a great
success. You can make a positive statement about Disc Golf and our
community, as well as making a real contribution to the local
community at-large.

You may check the messages at our web site for future updates as the
preparations continue for making this inaugural Keystone State Games -
Disc Golf Event a success.(www.pinchotdisdgolf.com). These games
will be widely publicized throughout PA and surrounding states.

Player applications and registration information can be obtained
directly from: www.KeystoneGames.com/SummerGames.htm after
publication in March. Only pre-registered players will be permitted
to play, no walkins.
Lets work together to promote Disc Golf for all ages!

Pinchot Park Management is interested in documenting the volunteer
hours contributed to the upkeep and improvement of the Boulder Woods
Course, as they do for all the other park projects.

Therefore, if you contribute time to the upkeep and improvement of the
Boulder Woods DG Course, please drop me an email on a regular basis
(at least once a month) to let me know the Date/Project/Hours that you
have contributed. It reflects well on our intention to expand the DG
activity in the park to be able to demonstrate your ongoing commitment
to Disc Golf by submitting the many hours of time contritbuted by you,
the DG Volunteers.

Especially if I was not present, but even if I was present at the time
you were volunteering, please email your information to me to
guarantee that I have a written record of your efforts so we can be
thorough by including them in our log book. Once a month is sufficient
unless you find it more convenient to send a weekly summary.

Many thanks to those who showed up early on such a cold morning to
help with the Boulder Woods upgrades. At 22-degrees, it was extra cold
working with concrete and steel.

These hearty volunteers put 5 DropZone markers in place. Even though
the ground was frozen, they picked their way through the top layer,
axed out a clean opening, and deposited the markers into their resting
places so that everyone can clearly know from where to throw after
missing a mando.

Others were cutting chains and attaching s-hooks to prepare sets of
inner chains for upgrading baskets. With snapping jaws, the bolt
cutter snipped out the necessary lengths and the channel locks were up
to the task of crushing the s-hooks.

Then, with the DZ markers quietly awaiting their inaugural usage, the
install crew returned to the pavilion to tackle the next task. They
draped the chains across their broad shoulders and hiked out across
the frozen tundra looking for those honored baskets that were destined
to be draped with new chains to better capture their prey.

With the last chains installed for posterity, the crew quietly made
their way back to the meeting grounds to pick up their Disc Bags and
challenge 'The Woods' to another round of competition.

Thanks again to everyone (If I tried listing everyone, I'm sure I'd
miss someone) who came out this frigid morning.

No further work days will be scheduled until the middle (or end) of
March. At that time, we hope to have approval for several additional
maintenance projects for which your help will be equally appreciated.

We are still planning to install the inner chains on the remaining
baskets and install Drop Zone markers.

We will be working between the hours of 8:00am and 12:00noon, although
I personally will need to leave earlier than that.

If you can help, just stop by between 8:00 and 8:30. If you have them,
bring along a pair of large 'channel-lock' pliers to crimp the chain
hooks, or bring along a shovel and steel rake to plant the DZ markers.

Generally, I only have Sunday Mornings, between 8am and 12noon, to
spend on the course. Most of my other time is committed elsewhere.

That means I am usually on the course between these hours only, and
have to choose between working or playing, based on what work needs to
be done and the priorities to getting it completed. I still try to
play one round a week, sometimes on a Friday.

My current near-term goal is to have the necessary additional chain
sets ready to install by January 21 and also hope to have the 'Drop
Zone' markers ready for installation on the 21st as well.

Any help with these projects would be appreciated on the 21st between
8am and 12noon. Please drop me an email (Ken(at)PinchotDiscGolf.com)
if you're interested in helping.

Based on a suggestion by Jason some time ago, I'm looking for 4
volunteers to keep the TeePads level. This involves adopting 4 Tees
each to rake the stones level at least twice a month, preferably every
two weeks. This involves having a steel rake (and perhaps a shovel)
that you can bring to the course to corral the gravel that escapes the
tee box and break up the high spots that develop.

The more we can keep the tee boxes level, the more likely they will
compact evenly and help shed water when it rains. Eventually (long
term) we hope to install concrete TeePads throughout the course.

We installed 9 New Basket Tops on the course today. We hope you enjoy
the better targets.

Additional Inner Chain Sets for the other baskets are to follow.....

Anytime YOU would like to help, just drop an email to us and tell us
what you would like to do.

OR, simply bring a leaf rake to rake up the leaves in the drainage
ditches or on the Tee Pads, or bring a steel rake to level up the
stones on the Tee Pads. These tasks need doing on a regular basis.

If you have any questions just send an email to:

Innova came through with the New Basket Tops to replace the rusty
one's on the course.

Tomorrow, Sunday 12/17, we'll be on the course replacing tops.

You're welcome to come out and help... I should have the necessary
tools with me for this work.

Also bring along a leaf rake and/or a steel rake (stone rake) as well.
There are leaves in the water drainage ditches and on the Tees that
need some attention and there are always Tees that need the stones
re-leveled.

Your help in maintaining Boulder Woods is greatly appreciated.

In the past 3 weeks, I've been told twice the basket tops were on the
way, but yet have not arrived... I will be contacting Innova again
this coming week to find out why!?!

All monies donated for the return shipping is still in hand, safely
awaiting the proper use.

The 9 baskets being replaced will have inner chains... and the money
raised/donated last year by a joint BWCC/HADGC event will be applied
to 9-additional sets of inner chains for the remaining baskets.

Once again, this money is still in hand, safely awaiting the proper
use.

Thanks to all who donated.... the implementation has been delayed due
to circumstances on Innova's part, but the goal has been steadily
pursued........

Jason,

I agree. Don has done a great service for all of Disc Golf in the
Central PA area.... what a great representative for this sport....
THANKS DON!!

TOPS - I once again spoke with Innova this past week (about the 10th
time this summer) regarding replacing 9 of the rusty tops on the
course.... and was told they would be sent this week...... Here's
hoping....

And as to additional holes..... A few details need to be worked out,
but they are already generally pre-planned and likely to be flagged by
January so clearing can be underway for the Spring....

First off, I'd like to personally thank Mr. Don Dillon, local "Legend"
for all the recent exposure he has provided for our beloved sport.
Whether at Messiah, Crrekside, or the Ironman, Everyone knows thelack
of exposure that discgolf recieves, and we are blessed to have one
among us that does the sport good.
Recent newpaper articles and news clips have done all of us a great
justice. If you do not know Don, meet him, you'll never regret it.
If you already know Don, make it a point to shake his hand and thank
him; we all owe him.
Secondly, I'd like to inquire as to the status of the new basket tops
that were being ordered as replacements for rusted and/or damaged ones
existing on the Boulder Woods course. Can we can an update??
Also, while I am at it... it's the right time of year to discuss the
additional holes on the rec side. Anyone have any plans or ideas?

Thanks

We were fortunate to have the weather clear up and the players did a
great job of fundraising..... it was INDEED a successful event....

We even had two individuals stop by during the event to inquire about
it and each made a donation to The MS Society.....

Jason:
Thank you for your kind remarks. It is encouraging to hear that the
articles have created more interest in the sport. That is my purpose. Although
my
prime objective is seniors, I had hoped that there would be a spill over to
the general community and your remarks encourage me!
Don
