It's not really uncommon - but not incredibly common, either, especially in eligible skating, since it's a lift that doesn't rotate. Wotzel and Steuer come to mind as skaters that used it both in exhibitions and in professional competitions. Abitbol and Bernadis have used it in eligible programs, however, I believe.
I can't remember the exact name of it, but it's incredibly difficult and takes a lot of trust on the part of both partners! Good to see Maria and Alexei trying new things.
Hi, Jenya,
Thanks for the education. Woetzel/Steuer and early Abitbol/Bernadis were of an era when I paid little attention to pairs and that`s probably why I never saw anybody but B/E do it.
I do, however, have plenty of W/S and A/B on tape as a by-product of making sure that I got the ice dance performances so I`ll look for that lift by either pair and also compare it to how P/T do it when I get to see them do it at Bofrost (on TV, of course, not live, in person. I`m not even going to Worlds and that`s only a few hundred miles).
Best regards,
Arthur
