Hey :-)
Thanks for that last link! That really was proper coverage.
Yes, Anissina certainly does seem to be in big trouble :-( I'm sorry to hear she might be so deeply involved.
And yes it really is a scandal nobody would have dreamed of! I still want proper coverage of it, not just an article that tells be there's s scandal and nothing else though.
On a positive note.... well I guess you can call it that... I never would have dreamed something related to figure skating would be on the first pages of Polish newspapers! ;-) But actually the coverage in today's Wyborcza was pretty good. They did an interview with Anna Sierocka, a Polish judge, who voted for B&S, she says she never heard of Tokhtakhounov and that she voted the way she thought was right. She also mentions the Chinese judge, who also voted for B&S and says she thinks it's pretty unlikely he could have had anything to do with it either. She also said he was so stressed about the pairs event that he got sick.
"Over the years there have been rumors that two members of a world-class ice dance team don`t even talk to each other off-ice. I wonder if that`s true and who the team could be."
If you're suggesting it could be A&P, I doubt it. I've seen them at press conferences they seem to relate to one another ok, they do admitt they're not the best of friends, but they have stayed together after turning pro, which would indicate the relationship isn't that bad.
But actually I haven't heard of those rumours. I have heard that Grishuk/Platov hated one another, maybe that's who you mean?
Monika
P.S. I'm leaving tomorrow, so this is probably my last e-mail for some time.
SOME MORE ARTICLES: (I like these better - less assuming, more facts or such is my impression)
Russian officials don't believe the story - also quotes from Sikhuarlidze and Averbukh:

"Suspected mobster may have contacted 6 judges":

More on the French side - "Chevalier" is apparently the surname of the president of the French ski Federation!!!

Hi :-) Yes, I agree with you that it doesn't prove the deal didn't exist, but I think the article gives unfull information - anyone who read that and hadn't followed Olys in detail who'd have thought the Russian judge did vote for them. Also when the author calls the pairs result the biggest scandal in Olympic history he is being rather untruthful - taking into account that so many people find arguments (technical and rulebook arguments!) for B&S winning, I don't think you can call it that. It's basically very poor journalism :-( I don't like articles, which are only there to say "there's a scandal, there's a scandal!".
Hi, Monika,
While I share your disdain for sensationalist journalists, I believe that in this case there is a very big story here. After all,
an arrest has been made.
I think how B/S skated vis-a-vis S/P is irrelevant. The issue is attempted event-fixing. BTW, I`m no kind of S/P supporter. I find them boring and basically only watch pairs to see P/T .
I don`t think I`m premature in noting that the noose is tightening around Anissina`s neck.
Boy, Speedy and Rogge are awful slow in issuing statements. I don`t for a second suspect Rogge of any culpability, but the alleged attempted fix happened on his watch so he`s stuck with this can of worms.
What does the U.S. Justice Dept. know that they`re not yet divulging? This whole thing may play out slow, but IMHO this is a scandal of bigger proportions than I can even dream.
Over the years there have been rumors that two members of a world-class ice dance team don`t even talk to each other off-ice. I wonder if that`s true and who the team could be.
As you know, I`m no insider in any way. shape, or form and all I know is what I get from the internet, newsgroups, and reflectors (or is it mailing lists?).
Cordially,
Arthur
