Abreu shatters record; wins HR Derby
Phillies slugger Bobby Abreu, who smashed a single-round record 24 homers in the first round, defeated the Tigers' Pudge Rodriguez, 11-5, in the finals to win the 2005 CENTURY 21 Home Run Derby on Monday night at Detroit's Comerica Park.
Abreu smacked 41 total home runs in the
derby, including one that went 517 feet.
With personal fuse Ramon Henderson, the Phillies' bullpen coach, feeding him on the inside half of the plate, Venezuela's representative in the new international format commandeered the plate for nearly a half-hour in his record 24-homer fanfare.
