Several contributors have mentioned the appropriatness of talking to other trail users.  I think that that is a great thing to do.  I didn't mention in my earlier post that I always strike up a conversation with passing trail users.

It improves relationship.

Once, on the Mickinick on my Mt. Bike, I stopped to let two hikers pass.  They were irritated that some **** on a bike was out there; and, untile we talked, they had been unaware that the trail if for multiple users.  We all went away with a better understanding --because I did not kick dust in their eyes or arragantly ignore them.

This also gives me a chance to promote PoP, get folks to drag their bikes out for a "no one gets dropped ride" with the club.
