Advocacy group committee meeting

Objective-to preserve current trails and create future trials in target area, Hwy 2-Dover to Baldy road area

Discussion item-

Marty Taylor, AICP, land planner

Marty spoke concerning the subject of the county comp plan and how recreation fits in, the county recently (Aug. 2005) adopted an implementation compotenet -

A Plan for a system of green belts and pathways (bike and pedestrian) should be considered as areas develop, so that a connected system can be developed and preserved.

The two main issues that land owners face are 1.liability 2.  Compensation.  60% of land in Bonner County is public land

Marty’s recommendation for the bike club is to identify subject areas of current trails and proposed future trails then contact these land owners to gain access.  If current landowners say no to trails then possibly we research the idea of an ordinance that could be placed on developers and enforced by the county.  Another issue is who maintains trails once they become public trails.

The group decided that the target area is Hwy 2 -Dover to Baldy road area
