Jan Morse and Arlene Hasly, coaches of Special Olympic Parish Training Club took seven athletes to one of two Spring games competition at Oswego High School. The athletes participated in basketball skills. Two a thletes participated in adaptive basketball. Jim Smith won 4th place ribbon in mens division I, Jon Michel Hasly won 2nd place ribbon in Mens division II. Kim Rude earned 2nd place in womens division I, Erika Einhart won 1st place ribbon in women division III. Robin Hubbard earning 1st place ribbon and Matt Allen 2nd place ribbon in the adaptive basket ball. The team is starting practice for the second set of spring games in track and
field. Congratulations
The May selection of Parish Public Library Book Club is a wonderful read: "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. The meeting will be at the Parish Public Library on Wednesday, May 20th at 7:pm. The discussion will be led by Bridget Swartz and Nancy Bookheimer. Joy Oliver will be furnishing refreshments. The meetings are held monthly and are op en to anyone who enjoys reading and would like to discuss what they read. Last month's (April) selection of "Olive Kitteredge" was a huge hit and provided a great back drop for a lively discussion by the group. RSVP at the library or by email.
Have you heard the buzz? Lots of excitement at the Parish Senior Dining and Activity Center (PSDAC). The month of May is “Bring-a-Friend” month with a contest and many fun activities. The “Bring-a-Friend campaign is an effort to reach out to the many senior citizens in Parish and the surrounding area. Did you know that the PSDAC is a safe, friendly place to gather with friends to enjoy a healthy meal and participate in quality programs. Don’t sit home with nothing to do and stew, the PSDAC is there for YOU.
The PSDAC has teamed up with the Grist Mill Restaurant in offering two great prizes for the May contest: two $50 Grist Mill Restaurant gift cards If you’ve never attended before, bring a friend and check it out– you will get three entries in our May Drawing! (your friend gets one too) If you have come before, bring along someone who hasn’t (or has)– this will get you two entry tickets. Your friend will always get one free ticket. If they come back they will get one more. As always your first time visit qua lifies you for a Free Meal on us!!!

The Parish Fire Company will host a Mother’s Day “ALL-YOU-CAN- EAT PANCAKE BREAKFAST” on Sunday, May 10 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Parish Fire Station located at 16 Union Street. You may enjoy pancakes, waffles, sausage gravy, biscuits, home fries, eggs, sausage, bacon, coffee and juice. A dults $6; Seniors $5.50; Children under 12 $4.50 and Family $20.
The Town and Village of Parish will hold the annual “Spring Clean Up” on Saturday, May 16 from 7:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Parish Town Barn on Dill Pickle Alley.
Pleasant Lawn Cemetery Walk
The Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, where many of Parish’s pioneers are buried, is the location for the fifth in a series of cemetery walks provided by the Parish Town Historical Society.
The walk is being conducted by the Parish Town Historical Society. It will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 11:00 at the Pleasant Lawn Cemetery on Route 69A.
Cemetery walks are becoming more popular as a way of honoring the contributions and lives of people who were a part of the community in the past.
Visitors will walk back in time, encountering various interpreters in period costume and demeanor at several locations among the gravestones. They will tell about their lives and roles in the area’s history. Members of the Parish Historical Society will re-enact the lives of some of the deceased buried there.

The Faith Church of the Nazarene will host its 3rd annual Craft Show / Chicken BBQ / Bake Sale on Saturday, May 30 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Call Dale Corcoran at 964-2301 to reserve your 12 foo t space ($10 deposit). The event will be outside this year, so you may want to bring a canopy along with your tables and chairs.
The Parish-APW Alumni Banquet will be held on Saturday, June 6. The cost will remain at $12 per person. The delicious buffet meal (baked ham or chicken and gravy) will be prepared by the Amboy Community Church under the direction of Ed Lescenski. The honor years are all classes ending with 4 or 9, 75th year celebration is the class of 1934, 50th year celebration is the class of 1959 and the 25th year celebration is 1984.
