Parish Girl Scout Troop 710 will host a sign up activity with four of the holes, temporarily set up on the baseball fields, of the future 9-hole Disc (Frisbee) Golf Course at the Merrill Town Community Park on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 2-4 pm. The public is welcome to join us and see what it is all about, since we will be needing volunteers in the near future. Elaine Wood Updyke spent two weeks in Connecticut visiting Jeff and Kelly Updyke and grandchildren, Lindsey, Haley, and Tanner. While there, enjoyed a special week taking care of the grandchildren while Jeff and Kelly vacationed in Colorado . Haley celebrated her 11th birthday on Sept. 24th. The second week Dave and Mary Gaffey joined the Updykes. Jeff, Kelly, Lindsey, Haley, Mary and Elaine stayed overnight in NYC and saw the play "Wicked" . It was great. Girl Scouts of the Mexico Service Unit enjoyed a “Girl’s Night Out” at the Mills & Petrie Memorial Gymnasium on Friday Oct. 3. A special thank you goes out to GSCCNY’s Judi Knowlton for joining us with her activities with germs, fingerprinting and beads galore. A very special thank you to Shannon Dunham of Parish with her talents with nails. She spent a very long time with us, the Girl Scouts just loved it. Shannon is a technician at Volpe Nails Salon & Day Spa in Cicero . A very special thank you to Kristine Fletcher of Parish with her talents with hair. The Girl Scouts were delighted with the braids, and special twists of magic. Kristine operates “Kristine’s Beauty Salon in Depauville. A very special thank you to Tia Guindon for her tricks with make-up. It was a “WOW” night. The roof on Mills and Petrie Memorial Gymnasium is complete? Sure looks it from the outside, doesn’t it look awesome. But....Doug Houghton and Ben McDonald worked Friday for a few hours setting up and blew in about 20 bags of insulation and then on Saturday working from about 10 to 6 and Sunday from 10:30 to 6. Thank you guys! New windows will arrive hopefully next week. Our grand ol’ lady will be snug this winter. The “Grass Roots Movement-Save the Gym” presented $6000 to the Village of Parish , the remaining $300 plus will be used at a later time for a reception to be held at the gymnasium when work is complete. This was all made possible Miss Jamie and the dancers of the Right Step Dance Studio would like to thank the community for their continued support. The chicken BBQ was delicious success. Miss Jamie will be teaching about 75 of our youths this year!!! The dance studio is raising funds for their trip to Buffalo to see the Rockette's Christmas Spectacular.. I have heard from AP 1948 graduate Jean Parrish Crosby of VA! “I miss my old home town! By-the-way, the old original Parish Center Methodist Church was built and donated to the town by Barrie Parrish's and my great grandfather, Sol Crosby.” The Parish Senior Group enjoyed their visit and luncheon at High Brae’s Refuge in Redfield last week, and was in awe of the quaint little church that once was a part of Parish. Thank you for sharing Jean. The Parish United Methodist Women will hold their Annual Fall Bazaar, Bake Sale, and Luncheon on Saturday, October 25th from 9am to 2 pm at the church. There will be a fine selection of handmade crafts and gifts as well as a delicious variety of home baked goods for sale. The luncheon will include our famous chicken soup and sandwiches. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 25th. The UMW ladies will be setting up for the sale on Friday afternoon beginning at 2:00 October 24th. The Parish Nazarene Church had a great service on Sunday, Oct. 5 and a great day of fun, food and fellowship. Approximately 150 people attended. The service came to a close with a surprise anniversary re-commitment ceremony for two of their church family members who had been married 23 years on that day. There were chicken bbg dinners and lots of prizes for all of the guests. The Greater Parish Area Chamber of Commerce will be posting their town wide mailing in the next few days. You will receive a brochure of most of what is happening in Parish on October 18. If you lose yours or need another stop by the Grist Mill Restaurant, Parish Key Bank or pick one up at breakfast that morning at the Parish-Hastings Presbyterian Church, 814 Rider Street ; 7-10 a.m. pancake breakfast. You won’t want to miss out on the memorable Oct. Fest t-shirt while supporting our local food pantry; a donation of $10 and participating in the Fun Walk Registration at 8:30 with a 9 a.m. start for the fun walk around Montgomery Street . Bring plenty of non-perishables with you to Merrill Town Community Park and join in even more fun. Additional add-ins: APW Winterguard will host a bake sale. The winners of the photo contest, the scarecrow contest and the apple pie bake off will be announced at 2 pm and the winners of the basketball and soccer contests will be announced at 4 pm. The Parish Elementary School will be joining in this endeavor to show support to the Parish Ecumenical and Dugway Food Pantries to the end of Oct. At dusk Parish will have it’s own little drive in at Merrill Town Park beginning at dusk with the Halloween classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” There will be no admission we just ask for monetary or non perishable food donations. There will be popcorn and beverages available for purchase. The APW Marching Band and Color Guard Uniform Drive 2008 be meeting in the band room at the high school on Thursday, October 16. Elections for new Officers will be held. The APW Educational Foundation will be able to offer some limited funding for grant opportunities various projects this year through a mini-grant. $2000 has been made available for this year. The Foundation's intent is to distribute the funds throughout the APW district to as many projects as possible. The application deadline is November 14th.
