Have you noticed?  Work has begun on the roof replacement at the Mills and Petrie Memorial Gymnasium.  That is exciting, imagine a season of basketball and not having to mop up the floor.  You won’t notice just driving by, but on the inside Gary Smith and friend have put down a new subfloor and are in the process of retiling the lobby area.   That will be awesome.

Lloyd and Arreta Ware, Reginald Ware and children attended the graduation of grandson, David Manchester on Sat. June 28.  David is the son of Richard and Marvel Sheffield of Weedsport.  A party for David was held at his parents home following the ceremony.  This was the most beautiful High School graduation Arreta says she has ever seen.  Jordan Elbridge High is to be commended on their beautiful graduation ceremony.

Siobhan O’Brien Alexander and son Derrick visited Lloyd and Arreta Ware recently.  Siobhan and husband Joseph just returned to the U.S. after being in Germany for a number of years.  Joe returned from a tour of duty in Iraq and was transferred back to the U.S.  He is now stationed at Fort Drum.  Siobhan lived with the Wares while in High School at APW and is thought of as one of their daughters.

The Parish Cadette Senior Girl Scout troop 710 enjoyed a two day trip to PA, June 30 – July 1.  They stopped at the Binghamton Zoo and the Country Buffet for dinner on their way to the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos.  The Great Wolf Lodge, an indoor water park, was a hit  for their end of the year trip.  The Girl Scout troop 710 (Maggie Allardice, Jaklyn Fisher, Kayla, Nicole and Tia  Guindon, Rachel Mitchell, Gabriel Sackett, Erin Stever, Becky Trexler, Kelsie Wilson, Danielle Zender and leaders: Rhonda Fisher and Mary Lou Guindon) would like to express their sincere appreciation to Oswego County Mutual Insurance Co. for the use of their parking lot for the car washes, to the American Legion Russell-Horning Post 601 Sons for their donation and to the many friends that had their vehicles washed and/or bought baked goods.

I received this note from Jim Laney on Friday, the Fourth of July!  “My brother Bill just called me from Yankee Stadium.  This is important.  He is seated in the front row of the lower level in right field.

He just told me about a play where a fly ball was hit to Johnny Damon where he hit the wall and the ball popped out of his glove and came to rest on a two inch piece of foam that sits on top of the right field wall.  After sitting there for three or four seconds the ball rolls back into play.  A once in a lifetime occurrence.

We will be seeing Bill in replays for years to come.  He is in the front row about 10 feet behind the wall.  He has a Yankee hat on and an American flag hanging out from under the hat.”  I thought this was quite unusual and had to share with all our APW alumni out there.   Bill attended the  Parish/APW Alumni Banquet on June 7, if I had known the future, I would have asked for his autograph!
