| March 16, 2008 Mary Cooper, 86, of Parish, passed away on Sunday at the VA Medical Center, with her family by her side. Mary was a proud member of the "Greatest Generation," serving as a nurse in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. She continued her nursing career, working for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson, MS, and Our Lady of Victory in Lackawanna, NY. Mary and her husband, Lester L., later retired to Parish in 1982. Mary enjoyed crafts, travel, church and family. She was a member of Parish United Methodist Church and Russell Horning American Legion Post in Parish. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Lester L., and by her brother, William B. Russell. She is survived by her son, William (Marilyn) Cooper; daughter, Betty (Brian) Vaughn; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Parish United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
