Kevin, Janet and Mary Katherine Clerkin traveled to Columbus , GA for PVT Sean Clerkin's graduation from fifteen weeks of U.S. Army basic and advanced infantry training at Fort Benning on Nov. 16. Joining them
were Kevin's mother, Margaret Clerkin of Sandy Creek , and Kevin's brother, Lt. Col. William Clerkin, US Army, of Fairfax , VA , formerly of Sandy Creek .
The ceremony was very impressive and included a demonstration of several weapons and equipment used by the Army Infantry. Sean was one of more than 400 young men in the 198th Infantry Brigade who graduated from Advanced Infantry Training.
While in Columbus , GA , the Clerkins visited the Confederate Navy Civil War Museum, the lovely riverwalk on the Chattahoochee River , and other sites at Fort Benning . Sean is a 2007 graduate of APW High School and is currently assigned to an infantry unit at Fort Benning .

Steve and Bev Crim and Norma and Ot Golden spent Thanksgiving in the woods at the Golden's camp. Steve II of Chicago joined them for dinner. The main course was turkey in a garbage can. A very nice "old fashioned" simple Thanksgiving dinner was enjoyed by the five. Also dropping by were newlyweds Ryan and Heather Rugabber Golden and Heather's cousin. It was a Thanksgiving that will always be remembered.
Victor and Jackie Graham Bernardi came in from Maryland to celebrate their 26th anniversary with Wayne and Loretta Willis Graham on their 51st wedding anniversary. Joining the
celebration at Red Lobster were Allen and Mindy LaRock Graham and family.
The Greater Parish Area Chamber of Commerce and Parish Community Recreation enjoyed another successful tree lighting and caroling event at the Veteran Park on Sat. Dec 1. On a beautiful and crisp night many melodious voices gathered around the ‘ol pine tree. This special tree was planted many years ago by our dear Mayor Lewis DeGarmo who recently passed. Memories of Lewis lighting the tree just last year were among the special memories in our hearts.
The group of singers walked to the Mills and Petrie Memorial
Gymnasium to warm up with hot coffee and cocoa and donuts provided by the chamber. The children created ornaments, cookies were frosted and enjoyed; Santa enjoyed listening to the little ones dreams of a perfect Christmas, while parents visited with neighbors and shopped at the many vendors booths.
Kudos to those involved in the work crews in getting the lights up in time; to all of the donations for the basket raffles and all the wonderful people that braved the frigid temperatures for a super night of festivities.
A special thanks from the Greater Parish
Area Chamber of Commerce and Parish Community Recreation. See some great pictures at http://www.parishcommunityrec.com/
