Hi PDCers,
I want to remind you that we have a dive scheduled for New Years Day.
We are meeting at the west end of Refugio Beach Park at noon.
Refugio has one of the nicest shore dives around with an easy
sheltered entry. There is a nice shallow reef within a short surface
swim from the picnic ground.
Today I dove with Jim and Lynn Axtell and Jerry Sorich at Naples
reef. Conditions were beautiful with little swell or current. The
visibility was 20-30 feet, but the water temp dropped to 54F. On the
way out of the harbor, we spotted a pod of dolphins very close to
shore. At Naples, I baptized the pole spear that Gretchen gave me for
my birthday, and tonight we are having a nice dinner of baked
rockfish. I only got one fish because during most of my dive I was
bird-dogged by a harbor seal and a sea lion. Every time I would line
up for a shot, I would see the fish scatter, then I would look over my
shoulder and see a smiling face - great fun. It was a spectacular day
and if conditions hold, the Refugio dive should be excellent.
We are not having a club BBQ, so make sure to bring your own lunch.
If you want to bring something to share, that would be nice too. In
year's past, we typically only do one dive, but I'm tempted to bring
an extra tank "just in case..."
