on saturday 10th september petone rowing club was perparing for their
second local regatta.
Porirua Goodwill, everyone was at the club preparing for the regatta at
7.30 am and geting ready to go at 8am.
the troops arrived at 8.15 at the Porirua rowing club.
Carparking wasn't the greatest but i not here to scrutinize the clubs
ability to handle regattas, the first race for petone was the mens
novice 8+ which I coxed,it was going to be a 1 on 1 battle with
wellington but due to gear breakage they weren't able to race petone,
the crew then decided to row the course back so they can collect
points and take it easy and focus on technique which wasn't according
to plan and also we stopped before the line which was a big no no and
so the crew copped 100 press up in total which the coxswain included
had to particapate in...
the rest of the day was a blast and a huge learning experience for
other crews and where thoughts and reality come colliding as a battle
between crews came down to the 1000m race course.
Horowhenua r.c is very strong this year i must admit and have produced
some excellent rowers and fast crews to be competitive in the 05-06
season.
The grand finale was the mens open8+ which petone has two crews
entered and gunning for gold and thanks to Kim who helped out to fill
a empty coxswains seat, all which resulted in the collision of petones
fluro 8+ and the racing Kirs 8+ with horowhenua and star 8's.
Boat unloading was on sunday morning at 8.30, another early morning fo
rhte rowers and a good turn up by rowers was great to see so many
people still committed to the sport, 3 singles were out with two
doubles and a 4, since no training 8's were avalible due to collision
damage from trainging and racing.
summary this weekend scores a 9 out of 10
