My name is Mike and I am a 44 year old road cyclist (3rd year of riding seriously).  I have a Trek 600 steel frame bike that I converted to fixed gear, 39x17.   I use the bike on the road, not track, to help develop cadence and strength.   Right now I am using the fixed gear as part of my winter training by climbing a mountain road behind my house.  I am way over geared on this climb, but I am hoping it will help develop my leg strength on the climb, and my cadence on the descent.  It's about .75 mile climb, 6-7% average grade.

I did get to ride on a velodrome in Michigan, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the track races there one evening....sprints, madisons, etc...  There is a velodrome about 40 miles away in New Hampshire....although after seeing the races track racing looks a little too scary for me.  Thinking about upgrading to an IRO Cycle someday...maybe this year.   I often post about cycling in general on my blog at http://spaces.msn.com/michael01612
