RE: [OldSkoolTrack] Re: Non messenger fixed riders...
Hey,
My Name is Alan Doyle aka D-Man and I love bikes, esp Track bikes.
I live in Dublin, Ireland and got my first track bike about 4 years ago when my bike got nicked and my dad borrowed me his Mercian Super Vigorelli (He used to ride - numerous Irish titles, road, track & grass track). I haven't coasted since!
I currently own 4 track bikes:
Mercian Super Vigorelli (1979 - I was born in '78)
I've also got my girlfriend into fixed gear riding - she's got two; Converted Peugeot Mixte and a really nice converted Clude Butler
I love lugged steel frames. The Fort is kinda outta place but its so light its hard to get rid of
There's not much of a non-courier (thats what we call messengers here in Ireland) scene at all but I do my best to ride as many alleycats as possible and keep up to date with all the goings on here and on the fixed-gear@... list.
I don't own a car and hate smelly busses so i ride everywhere. I like courier bags because they hold shitloads o stuff and are comfy on the bike (walking not so much). I have a Chrome Metropolis and a fuckin Huuuuge Pac Bag.
Think thats about it, keep em comin
Peace
d-man

My name is Greg. The OST website is mine, with photos by Vince. I came into track bikes because of a Bicycle Buyer's Guide I read in 1988, looking for my first bike ever as an adult. One particular photo kept catching my eye, and I didn't even know why. I read more closely and saw that it was a Pinarello Track bike.
It was the track bike's sleekness and minimalism that caught my attention. Like a muscular thoroughbred racing horse. No extra fat.
I've been riding fixed-gear 97% of the time since then, with a few forays into the world of BMX and trials-riding. All of that helped my fix riding for sure.
I ride everywhere around NYC, the 5 boroughs, New Jersey. Some hills, lots of pot-holes (trials again!). My favorite riding is discovering lost sites in New York, or sometimes on an alleycat, or cruising with my old-skool buddies up around Harlem discovering even older old-skool folks who are still sporting their same tracks from back in the 1970s and didn't know there were others out there doing it.
My bikes are only 2, the custom Popdan, and a custom Serrotta. As much as I like the old-skool esthetic, neither of these bikes has lugs! My next bike will be a Colnago track w/ steel fork!
Yeah, There are some non messenger types.... It has been so long since many of us posted and it is hard to even know who people are or their areas anymore!...
