Re: [OldSkoolTrack] Re: Non messenger fixed riders...
Wow...Greg brings up a interesting fact in his post...
I biked on my bridgestone but NEVER at a serious level or even considering it...til I peered at a magazine in...1988. Weird. It was around the same time I started checking out road bikes and started into my first serious venture...I waited til 1989 and bought the leftover 1988 Schwinn.
At the time, I looked at several different model bicycles and although my parents encouraged me to get a "cannondale"...The bikes just really didn't appeal to me...I kept looking at the lugged Schwinns...at that time there was the tempo and premis and prelude...I got the premis for a steal and it really was the deal for me for many a year. One of the other bikes that I looked at was a lugged steel Canadian Miele...it was awesome...it was a track bike! I remember thinking how it would be fun to whip around a track and asked at the shop if there were any tracks in Erie or the area...much to my dismay...there was nothing!
It seems the steel lugged look always caught my eye! And of course there are newer bikes out there that are appealing as well...including (just for your info Scott)...aluminum...so don't give up hope on our group...we may like steel but we like others as well....Good luck on your frameset. It means a great deal when a frameset is being put out by people that KNOW the idea for the purpose...it should be very sweet based on your knowledge of track riding and the needs. That is important.
The Hobbs that I am getting will be built up as a fixie and it is late 40s early 50s and lugless...should be interesting!

My name is Greg. The OST website is mine, with photos by Vince. I came into track bikes because of a Bicycle Buyer's Guide I read in 1988, looking for my first bike ever as an adult. One particular photo kept catching my eye, and I didn't even know why. I read more closely and saw that it was a Pinarello Track bike.
It was the track bike's sleekness and minimalism that caught my attention. Like a muscular thoroughbred racing horse. No extra fat.
I've been riding fixed-gear 97% of the time since then, with a few forays into the world of BMX and trials-riding. All of that helped my fix riding for sure.
I ride everywhere around NYC, the 5 boroughs, New Jersey. Some hills, lots of pot-holes (trials again!). My favorite riding is discovering lost sites in New York, or sometimes on an alleycat, or cruising with my old-skool buddies up around Harlem discovering even older old-skool folks who are still sporting their same tracks from back in the 1970s and didn't know there were others out there doing it.
My bikes are only 2, the custom Popdan, and a custom Serrotta. As much as I like the old-skool esthetic, neither of these bikes has lugs! My next bike will be a Colnago track w/ steel fork!
Yeah, There are some non messenger types.... It has been so long since many of us posted and it is hard to even know who people are or their areas anymore!...
Alright, I will start it off: My name is Kirk Albers and I am recovering bike racer. I ride all year, my fixed riding is mostly on the track, but I plan on...
And since Kirk went first, I will follow. A lot of you know me, I am Scott Patton, I (with much help from Kirk) keep www.FixedGearFever.com alive and running....
Hey Scott and Kirk, I continue to be impressed at the FGF site. It looks like a daily news magazine, lots of work and upkeep. Very pro looking. I wish you...

Hey Paul, how do you like the fixed gears constant rotation? It'll get even more interesting when and if you start experimenting with gear ratios. Vincent...

Just thought I'd drop in myself as well. I've been entertained by this site for some time now but have rarely posted. While never owning a Old Skool track bike...
