My name is Kirk Albers and I am recovering bike racer. I ride all year, my fixed riding is mostly on the track, but I plan on showing the wannabes around here how to spin a bit by riding fixed on the road. I co-admin the www.fixedgearfever.com site along with Scott Patton, check it out!
Raced off and on since '84, last eight years on an UCI road team, a few wins here and there, one National Calendar win back in the 90's. Done with the bigtime, just racing for fun now, not going to miss grovelling in the laughing group up Brasstown Bald, etc.
Had a blast last year racing a bit on the track, Detroit 3-day Madison and Elite Nationals (big crash took us out of contention for the win in the Madison) were the highlights. Anyone who hasn't ridden a short track, get you a** to Forest City or Detroit.

It has been so long since many of us posted and it is hard to even know who people are or their areas anymore! Maybe an intro...who, where, what they ride...do you ride all year...do you have individual websites...involved in alleycats...involved in set group rides in your area...involved in grass track riding....how about those insane bastards that actually ride fixies off road? not sure if that is the scene you want on here either being "street"...but heck...what streets you riding out there folks! I don't know anyone on here anymore and it has been so freakin' silent!

Vince forwarded me the message from Jeff. The BUYcycling spammers and sex salespeople have been posting a lot.
So I made a few changes to the group's settings:
(1) For about a week, I set all messages to be moderated. That means I will have to approve each one. That should cut down on the Tall Singles and Great New Bicycle Info spam. After the week, I'll open it up to unmoderated posting for existing members.
(2) This will be permanent: all new members must be approved. This cuts way down on the spam.
Going forward, I have some questions for the group.
1. Would anyone like to volunteer as a co-moderator? Some busy groups have as many as 10 moderators!
2. Any suggestions to make this a more lively place? The messengers group and the non-track fixed-gear groups are pretty active. Are there any non-messenger fix riders on the streets and on the internet?
Anyone want to be in a NYC photo shoot for a magazine article on track bikes on the street? I've been having trouble getting in touch with some of the old-skoolers...
