I can't seem to locate the particulars of the seminar.
Is it the same place, the Comfort Inn on Trimble? And
what time does it kick off, about 8:30?
Sorry to ask at the last minute. I tried looking on

This is my one and only sales pitch for the year in this group! This article is on the OVR website and will be in the next Observer's Stand.
The 2008 racing season is just around the corner and I'm looking for some new people who want to be in the second best seat at the track. Starters, as turn marshals do, communicate to the drivers with flags. We also stay in communications with the corners and control. There is quite a rush when the pace lap is coming around that last corner and you know that you are one who decides when to throw the green flag to unleash the battle for the checkered flag. We do keep a running lap chart to count down the laps and prepare for race's finish. It's such a great feeling when you see potential winners coming down the front straight and you get to show the checkered flag for their fine accomplishment. I try to have enough people on hand for a weekend so that when we
rotate around I do include a break or two. During the pro weekends, of course you will have a chance, to walk around the paddock and garages, see the cars up close, and meet the drivers.
During the Mid Ohio Region Porsche race at Mid Ohio I'm having a school for Starters. The race will take place on May 17th and 18th. I would prefer people with flagging and communications or driving experience, but I will train anyone who is eager to learn. I do require you to be there all day Saturday and Sunday. If interested or you have any questions, please contact me direct at 614-332-4540 or sccastart@....
Are you ready to dance with the Starters? Randy Holton
Ok... I think these are all coming together now, so just to keep you
all in the loop....
Tom Sneeringer has sent out an invitation for a safety training day
at Mid-Ohio on March 30th, 2008. This training is geared for the Mid-
Ohio Safety Team, but Tom has indicated that anyone is welcome to
attend that is interested. Larry Hall and Randy Holton have offered
to help out, so it won't be just goofy firefighters in attendnace.
The day will begin at 8:30 am and continue until 5 or 6 o'clock that
night. Many activities such as track awareness, initial patient care,
extrication and more will be covered. Lunch will be provided. It will
be a busy day with a lot of valuable information. This is not a
mandatory training, but everyone is strongly encouraged to attend. If
you know of anyone that may have worked on the Safety Team at Mid-
Ohio in the past, or someone that wants to work this year, they are
welcome as well. If you want to attend this one, or have any
questions, contact Tom at tsneeringer@... . Since lunch will
be provided, he will need some definite numbers so please let him
know asap.
Denny Freeman and Erik Avendutti are planning a Safety Day on
Saturday April 5th, 2008 and a Training Day for the NEOhio Safety
Team Sunday April 6th, 2008 at the Nelson Ledges Road Course. The
Saturday session will be primarily geared toward the Flagging &
Communications and other on-course specialties, while the Sunday
session will concentrate on the Safety Team functions. I also believe
that Denny is planning to provide lunches, so you will need to
contact him (or you could probably contact Erik as well) at
denjimgmc@... if you would like to attend this session.
I hope I will see you at one (or both) of these sessions. While I am
sure there may be some duplication, the two facilities are very
different and the safety teams operate a little differently, so I am
sure you will gain valuable knowledge at both training programs.
See you At the track!
This weather will make my Wednesday escape to Sebring more meaningful. Looks like I'm going solo. Remember this next year!

Thanks, Ronda. I did contact the motel and they typically want 24 hour notice to cancel, but will give you slack with the possible weather. I was told though, if you do decide to cancel, call them as soon as possible. With that in mind I won't make any decisions right away.
I'm not too concerned with Columbus or Toledo, just all the stuff in between.

Mike,
Welcome to Nelson Legdges, Ohio's club track. The facilities are nothing like
the pro track of Mid-Ohio, but drivers LOVE the circuit. It is challenging and
fast.
Not only that, your region will probably make a whole lot more money, as NL's
track rental is far less than Mid-O's! Neohio offered to let WOR do the WOR
Games at NL years ago. I am sure that everyone will be pleased to have the event
"up north."
I know I am looking forward to it.

What Randy didn't tell you is that WOR Games was
canceled, but has now been rescheduled. The new date
is 30-31 Aug, and it's moved to Nelson Ledges. We

Most of you know by now that the Cleveland GP and WOR Games have been canceled.
The latest addition to Mid Ohio is another OVR Regional, a clone to the September event, on October 11th and 12th. For those who don't want to go west for the Runoffs or are going to the Ohio State/Purdue football game, this will give you another weekend to play at M-O.
I"m sure I'll see some of you this weekend in Toledo.
Yep, this is the F-1 of the two wheelers, can't
miss a chance to see them. They've only been out west
before (Laguna Seca).

Don't get me wrong…I still think Tony George is the anti-Christ for

Hey Rhonda! Did I miss your phone call, or are you like me and
running in 8 directions right now?
I wish I had some concrete information to bring everyone up-to-date.
What I do know is that the Nelson Ledges Safety Day/Training Day
weekend is still set for April 5th & 6th. As I understand it,
Saturday will be a Safety Day for all specialties. Sunday will be a
Training Day concentrating more on the Safety Team and ES workers.
The Safety Team is helping with some training stations on Saturday
while on Sunday the other specialties are offering assistance to help
with some training stations.
As for Mid-Ohio, I am still waiting for Tom Sneeringer to confirm the
date as Sunday March 30th, but I am about 99% sure that is when they
will have their training day for their Safety Team. Since the LEC
folks have not indicated much interest in makeing it a formal SCCA
Safety Day, I expect this will also be focused on the Safety Team,
but we can sure use any help that other specialties can offer (even
Starters!). At the very least, I would like to have some kind of a
group meeting as part of the training day where everyone could
discuss interation with each other on the "hot side" of the fence, so
input from your folks will be very helpful.
I'll keep you all posted here when I know some more details. Mid-
Ohio is not "my" team, I am just a member of the team. Tom
Sneeringer and Brian Snipes are the people in charge of that group
(at least that was how it was last year). I understand that Mike
Quaintance (Asst. Fire Chief of Dallas Twp. - Crawford County) will
also be helping out this season. What is going on with the
management above those people I have no idea since I have no contact
with those folks whatsoever.
