I did hear, that they are no longer taking reservations for 2010. I understand that there are three SCCA weekends planned. ORP is no longer an option, so some of those races will be at Bluegrass. I also heard a possible opening date of June 2010. Once again, we'll see!

Randy, thanks for the reminder of using the forum to update everyone.

I am Larry Hall and I am running for re-election to the OVR Board of Directors. This is my 24^th year as an SCCA member. The past two years, I have helped guide the club as a director and as assistant treasurer. I also currently serve as the treasurer for the SCCA Great Lakes Division.

My racing involvement started at Mid-Ohio in 1978 and now includes being a specialty chief (Emergency Services – Course) and a Race Chair for regional races. I am also a back-up liaison between OVR and Mid-Ohio for pro event volunteers.

Our club remains in stable financial condition. We have started branching out into new programs; Rally, Street Survival, and PDX. There was a learning curve, but we achieved satisfactory results. I believe we need to continue building these new programs in addition to growing solo and the club racing programs. The local economic situation has been tough, but we have survived by continuing to do what we do best (solo and club racing) while exploring new ideas. We need to continue along this path.

We also need to pay respect to our current members/volunteers as well as recruit new people. I have brought in three new members in the last two years and will continue to keep recruiting as a personal goal. Our club and its events are only as good as those who volunteer their time and effort. This should not go unacknowledged.

I desire to continue using my management and financial background to help guide our club. Let’s be safe, have fun, and please vote.

The '09 racing season is over! In a way I'm glad, because I started to feel like I was going down in flames. I have already got my 2010 calender out and am making plans for next year. As in the past, since '02, I'll be heading down to Sebring for the 12 Hours on March 20th. I have secured my cottage that I stayed at last year and made reservations on Air Tran. My round trip ticket, out of Columbus to Orlando was about $237. If anyone else is interested let me know. If you are looking for a place to stay check out: http://lakeland.craigslist.org/vac/ Otherwise, motels down there average around $150 per night.

For those who haven't been following, Simone is making a fantastic recovery! I'm sure that she is already thinking about Sebring.

I saw on the LEC website a suggestion of getting together sometime during the winter. It sounds like a great idea to me. If anyone has an idea on how to accomplish this pass it on.

I haven't been following what's been going on, as far as the up coming elections in OVR, but if anyone is running for anything in any region, please feel free to endorse yourselves here.

Many of you are now on Facebook and I wanted to let you know that the Facebook ORRO is now up to 104 members. I'm going to try to post the same info there that I post here and don't be shy about doing the same.

I just hung up from Bill. Simone is settled into the Hospital at the University of Cincinnati in ICU and doing better than expected.

They did another CAT scan (seems appropriate given the number of cats she has at home!) and the brain swelling is slightly improved. Her fingers are moving a bit better but she still has a ways to go before she can be the texting Goddess she was prior to this set-back. The doctors are VERY impressed with how well she’s doing and how much she has improved in such a short time. They told Bill that within 4-6 days there will most likely be a significant improvement overall. Apparently the doctors were also quite impressed with the knowledge both of them have about head trauma so Bill had to explain about their involvement in racing and their exposure to those types of injuries. Bill told me he’s been knocked out more times in his racecar than he’d like to count.

Simone had a terrible headache from the stroke and the University Hospital was able to give her something for it tonight. Her blood-pressure was all over the place and they were able to give her something to stabilize her blood pressure. Both of these gave Simone some much needed relief. The confusion seems to be easing a bit as well and she’s able to rest comfortably now that the headache pain is gone.

Although the hospital is farther away from their home, the good news is that Bill’s sister lives about 5 minutes away. There are very strict visiting hours, even for him, so during a 2 hour window when he cannot be there with Simone, his sister has invited him over for dinner each night. Then after dinner he can head back to see Simone and then home for some rest.

So things are progressing much better than expected. Obviously all your prayers, the great medical attention and the strength of our Simone are proving to be the special magic combination needed for her to get through this.

Keep those prayers coming gang!

Marty called Simone and talked to her briefly. She sounded pretty groggy.

Then he called Bill. Bill let us know that he was on his way to the hospital. They’re moving her to the University Hospital today. The University Hospital has an outstanding stroke unit where she’ll get state of the art care.

Bill is going to try to call us tonight with further updates. He was in a bit of a hurry to get back to the hospital so he couldn’t talk much.

I heard from Lisa Kay this morning – Thanks Darlin’ – To paraphrase what Lisa Kay told us…she has been texting with Simone but Simone is pretty frustrated with her fingers not working quite right. She had some movement in her left hand yesterday but there was an issue with some brain swelling. Simone was getting a bit confused and tried to get out of bed and I’m sure she’s pretty scared with all that is going on. When Bill is there she’s much calmer but still a bit confused and frustrated.

As soon as we get more updates we will send it along. In the meantime, prayers are always a good thing to be sending to Cincinnati.

If you know of anyone else to add to this list please send it my way or if you’d rather not be on this update email blast let me know that as well. This information will also be posted in the IMSA Staff Forum.

I was a fan of "Junk Yard Wars" but they never had anything as fun as this. What humor!

In the mid '60s, a high school friend did have an amphibious car. It kind-a looked like the Triumph Harold but I think made in eastern Europe. It had two propellers at the rear bumper. And it worked!

Thanks Brian for the laugh. I needed it.

One could drive to the UAE. They would need to catch a long ferry ride on the east coast. It is a big pond that needs to be crossed. Maybe catch an empty Beamer or M-B boat back. I here that the price of gas is about 35 cents a gallon in the UAE.

The last time I worked a SCCA event, and tried to log the time on the site, I couldn't. It didn't work for me. Then I got a case of DVT at the GrandAm and couldn't work any kind of a job, most of the summer. Standing in one place for a very long time can have its health issues.

Being unable to work has put me in a real bind, both with the SCCA membership and trying to pay for it. At this point, I doubt I will re-up. I found out how good their health insurance was after I strained my back running from a GT1 Corvette four years ago. My insurance, and my co-pays paid for all the medical care I needed to recover. Despite filling out tons of forms and waiting for their reply, nothing ever came from SCCA. I have come to believe that the only insurance involved in the membership was the insurance that you couldn't sue them if you got hurt.

My family has been involved in motor racing since the twenties. I started going to races when I was about eight. Over fifty years ago. SCCA has evolved into an organization that has lost its volunteer, non-profit status to one that seeks rewards for some. Leaching from others.

I, like Lauri, believe volunteers should not need to pay anything for a membership where we risk our lives, and pay considerable expenses just to attend these events. This rewards program the SCCA came up with, just adds more confussion to an already confusing society. I remember when all we had to do was to show up, without a membership in anything, being welcomed for coming, and given a job on the track.

In this economy and for new members, who haven't had a chance to get work days awarded, SCCA membership is pretty damned expensive. I joined LEC in 1971 and fought joining SCCA until I absolutely had to in the 80s. The reason given, their insurance, is weak at best. I don't like being forced to join any group so I can spend another $50+ to volunteer my time. But, I love motorsports and do it for the love of the sport. BTW, we work Karts, motorcycles, NASA, Pro events, Vintage cars, all without paying for their memberships.

I was going to state the exact same thing. All that is needed is to report your days (an option available on the SCCA website) and when you renew you can take varying amounts of discounts based on the number of days that you work.

I believe that I only paid $50 the last time - and that's only because they didn't have the pro weekends on the website yet.

In this economy and for new members, who haven't had a chance to get work days awarded, SCCA membership is pretty damned expensive. I joined LEC in 1971 and fought joining SCCA until I absolutely had to in the 80s. The reason given, their insurance, is weak at best. I don't like being forced to join any group so I can spend another $50+ to volunteer my time. But, I love motorsports and do it for the love of the sport. BTW, we work Karts, motorcycles, NASA, Pro events, Vintage cars, all without paying for their memberships.
