This past weekend, I made my sixteenth trip to Detroit for the Grand Prix. It was truly a great time. This was my first year to take the bus shuttle service and it worked out smooth as silk. I was a little concerned at the end of the day on Sunday of competing with 30,000 people trying to get of the island. As it turned out, I got on the bus immediately, got to the lot to pick up my car, and was on my way out of town without any traffic hassles.
I was planning on suggesting Detroit to everyone as a road trip, but since the WOR Games was moved to that same date, I know that Mike Wright would have shot me. Back in the early eighties Detroit was the destination for about 20 LEC members each year. It would be cool to get something like that going again.
The Detroit Region is in a very heavy recruiting mode. They have a new website www.JoinFandC.com. I'll add it to the links in this group. It is interesting that most of the pictures from that website are from Mid-Ohio. I did my fair share of handing out their cards with the site listed. I talked to several of the Detroit Grand Prix Association people, who provide the circuit marshalls along with many other services. I found several people interested, including one person, who may make an appearance at Mid Ohio before the season is over. Speaking of the DGPA, I will tell you that they are some of the most dedicated, organized, and friendliest group of people that I have ever met. I was invited to their closing party at the end of the day on Sunday, but I was to warn out to go. I have been top their parties in the past and they are great!
Anyone want to go next year? |
