FORMULA ONE BROADCASTS CONTINUE AT STUDIO 35 (LIVE, MOVIE SCREEN PROJECTION OF SELECT 2008 RACES)
The popular Studio 35 movie theater ( 3055 Indianola Ave. , Columbus, OH) introduced live telecasts of the world-famous Formula One auto racing series with its presentation of the 2007 Grand Prix of Monaco last May. This summer¢s series continues Sunday Sept. 7 with the Belgian Grand Prix, fought on the mighty and historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Spa includes Eau Rouge, perhaps the most revered and poetic turn in all of the Formula One tracks. The pre-race show begins at 7:30 am. our time and the race follows at 8 am. Admission is $5 and a door prize will be given away in a drawing at the end. The championship this year has shifted dramatically. Neither Ferrari nor McLaren have put together a consistent run of point-scoring, not to mention wins, to dominate. That left the window open to the hard-charging BMW Sauber team, which asserted itself in the beginning but has receded recently. The fight mid-field has been more interesting than usual, with Red Bull, Williams, and recently Toyota, slugging it out for the remaining points. The driver lead has changed more often than any other season in recent memory, with Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica now in the first four positions separated by only 15 points. The Formula One series was established just over 50 years ago, formalizing the tradition of Grand Prix racing now more than 100 years old. The British Grand Prix run at Silverstone, previously an airfield, was the site in 1950 of the first ever World Championship race, won by Giuseppe Farina in an Alfa Romeo. F1 is said to compete with soccer for the title of the biggest sport in the world; some sources estimate as many as 500 million fans view each race. Run exclusively on challenging road courses by cars constantly refined with aerospace caliber technology, Formula One is truly the pinnacle of motor sport not to mention its most glamorous. Admission for this special broadcast of the European Grand Prix is just $5. The broadcast season continues from Valencia to Belgium, Italy and Singapore. Breakfast items will be available and the bar will be open for the hardy during the early races. There will be door prizes at individual races and a grand prize at the closing broadcast from Singapore. For more information, call (614) 261-1581 or go online to www.studio35.com.
