Re: [Ohio_Road_Racing_Officials] Re: A good weekend!
First let me say thank you to Rich! When Safety pulled in and I saw that it was him, all, okay not "all", most of my anixety began to slip away. It was as if we had the manual right there in front of us!. This incident was proof positive that training, training and more training is what it takes. Even as all the support teams began arriving it continued to be total team-work. I so wish that we had been able to video tape the incident from the spin to the transport because as Rich stated, we all communicated and did exactly what we have been trained to do.
I appreciate and thank you as well for the pat on the back. I have to admit that it does feel great when you walk away knowing that you did exactly what you were suppose to do and that you made a difference.
I would have liked to have had a debriefing of sorts as well. I don't have one problem telling you that I was pretty shook. The initial spin was very lazy, and even the impact didn't seem as though it was any thing major. It's one of those things that you don't realize until about 15 to 30 minutes after you walk away that your "all shook up". And I was! Then of course you start going over everything in your mind and questioning if you did everything that you could have or should have. A defrief is definatley something that we need to discuss and certainly need to implement. I realize that not everyone will react the same and some will not be affected. Even if it is only to tell each other "good job" (Which we did at lunch). We will have to look in to how we can do this and when. I know that time isn't always on our side so this may take some doing to get it going but I
know from past incidents and now this one, we owe it to our teams to provide this to them.
P.S. I received information this morning that the driver is doing very well and is expected to be released today or tomorrow. Ohio Valley is also sending a card and flowers to he and his wife.

priority and by the time you are finished, we all start heading our separate ways.
There are always ways to improve and experience alone will aid with that. The Safety Team members are talking about some ideas, that we will look at over time. Be assured, we will be keeping everyone on the same page with us. I help with NASCAR training at Kentucky Speedway and their lead trainer has a philosophy that he kind of adopts as a slogan for "Track Services" (everyone working on the hot side of the fence)... the slogan is "Always Move Forward", meaning no matter what you are doing, always strive to make it better and never go backwards. I think that slogam works nicely for all of us!
