I would like to see us give this a try. Many of us know people that have
children, and no
better way to get them involved in a healthy activity than this.
When: Saturday October 4th
Where: Pig trail
Time: 10:00 am
This Sunday 9:00 am if we get a bunch of us out there we can have it all cleaned
up and
trimmed.
Monte do you think we could get the trailer out there?
If you come out please bring gloves and trimmers if you have them. and plenty of
water.
Jake
I plan on being there as many days next week as it takes to get the loop
finished in its entirety. This includes trimming over hang from the
remainder of the loop, picking up trash, adding a couple new
sections(under Montes direction)and weed eating/mowing a couple trouble
spots.
Hope to have everything I just mentioned finished by next
weekend.Any/all help would be appreciated.

I know people said they liked the idea when it first came around. Now with it
right around
the corner who is going to be around to come out and help?
Need people for:
registration
scoring (both days)
Course prep and tear down.
After Shey takes care of his cost we are supposed to get the rest. Not sure how
much this will
be but anything is good to have to help with the Arrowhead fund.
So if you are going to be around please come out and help.

OMBA Meeting tonight Aug 6th, EMPIRE DELI Macon, GA 8:00 PM!
At the June OMBA Meeting it was voted that the August Meeting would be
held near the Pig Trail to facilitate a ride there before the meeting.
The Meeting Time has also been moved back to 8:00.
If anyone needs directions feel free to shoot me an email

Empire Deli : 4524 Forsyth Rd, Macon, GA - (478) 474-1429
As many of you know the single speed championship race will be held
the first weekend of September(5,6,7)at east Macon park.East Macon is
in need of some pretty significant work.
Not really sure what the plan should be since my head is still
spinning from th last few weeks of planning for the pig race but heres
my thoughts.
I'm thinking we need several projects/several people working on
improvements from now till then with a few organized work parties
thrown in just to for good measure. If we can identify some trouble
spots/areas WE can work on them when WE have some extra time.
A couple things right off the top of my head I know need done are.
1)The BMX course needs mowed/weed eated.
2)Need to have a meeting of the minds with a couple people out there
to try and figure out how to add around a mile to the loop. Not really
looking to cut in new single track.Need to figure out the easiest way
to do this.
If we could start making a "things to do list" and then have those
things taken care of when people have the time I think it would be
much easier than trying to get everything done on the weekends.
If ya happen to do anything out there post it here and we can check it
off the to do list.
Thoughts??
thanks
Mark D.
just updated the volunteer list

Jim & I aren’t on the list –
I sent a couple of emails last week that we’d like to help with marshalling
& the kids’ race. Can we help or are there enough volunteers?

As of yesterday(for some unknown reason)the owner of the fish and pig
decided that 100 mountain bikers wasn't "worth his time".We had
already negotiated a deal with him back in March with a "gentleman's
agreement"(handshake)Needless to say we won't be having the banquet at
this restaurant.
The new plan as of late Wednesday evening is to have it at the banquet
hall there at the pig trail.Big/HUGE thanks to Brian(home director)
for allowing us to use this with such last minute notice.Terri Berger
will be cooking the food like the past few years(yummy)
We will need a few people to hang around afterwards to help clean up
the banquet hall.
Anyone who has already bought tickets will be refunded their money.
If anything changes I'll let y'all know.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Mark D.
I've been asked to spread the word about parking anywhere other than
designated parking spots at the childrens home while doing trail
maintenance.
If anyone is doing trail maintenance and decides to park in the
woods/field/anywhere other than the parking lot,we are asked to notify
the office staff that we're doing so.
This only applies between the hours of 9-5 Mon-Fri.
thanks
Mark D.
As mentioned earlier,we are having an awards banquet at the fish-n-pig
following the race and cleanup.
I need to know how many volunteers plan on attending.
RSVP by tomorrow evening please. You can post here or email me at
markd33 at alltel dot net
Mark D.
Anyone happen to have the arrowhead trail system downloaded on a GPS?
Got to thinking that following a GPS line would be a ton easier than
trying to bush whack through fallen down trees at arrowhead not to
mention a lot less time consuming.
I have a garmin 305 but dont know how to use it for anything other
than looking at post ride data.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I plan to mark the course on Friday before the race weekend. Course will be the same as last year - 7.3 mile loop with the new re-routes. Kids will race on the unused portion of the trail adjacent to the start.
I can help with the kids race since the yellow wave is 11:30.
I believe Eric Tully can be the EMT..
Will bring PA - pop ups - fans - chairs etc..
Continue the improptu work parties to polish the trail. Eric plans to work tommorrow friday am ( early ) mowing and trimming and corner sand removal. I will try to help until about 10am.
Got a call from Doug Ferney today(arrowhead park director)informing me
that the parks department has agreed to clean up the trail at arrowhead.
If you recall FEMA decided not to pay for any cleanup efforts at
arrowhead.
What this means is that we have an opportunity to have our trail
system back. All that's asked of us is to go out there and flag the
trail so the loggers can remove debris from the trail system. They
aren't going to be messing with anything other than the trail and they
need markers so they'll know where the trail is/was.This needs to be
finished by Monday.
If arrowhead ever meant anything at all to you now is the time to show
some love.I'm not going to organize any trail marking work party but
am going to ask each and everyone of you to try and spare as
much/little time as you can this weekend marking the trail. Please post
here where you've marked so people won't be back tracking.
I plan on being out there tomorrow around 1 (till dark)Saturday all
day and Sunday after the pig trail work party(if needed)
Any questions please call 397-6283 or email me at markd33 at alltel
dot net.
Giving something back has never been as important as it is right now.
Mark D.
Carrie and I will be there to pitch in - turn marshall or
whatever.
