This classic vintage new old stock 1987 Schwinn Paramount, built in the
legendary Waterford factory, measures 58cm from the center of bottom bracket to
the top of the top tube, or 57cm from the center of the bottom bracket to the
center of the top tube, with a 56.5cm top tube.



The frame and fork are painted a beautiful metallic Emerald Green with frost
silver decals, one of the color schemes available on this model frameset but one
of the harder to find today. The paint is in wonderful condition, owing both to
the quality of the initial paint job and the care that was taken in protecting
this frameset over the years. The paint was hand sprayed, with two coats of
epoxy primer followed by four to five coats of acrylic urethane enamel color and
protective clear coats.



This lugged frame was hand built and silver brazed to within .005" alignment
tolerance by some of the most revered master craftsmen of frame building. The
steel tubing is Columbus SLX, which was the high-end steel available when this
Paramount was built in the famous Waterford factory.



The frame has investment cast lugs and bottom bracket (English threads), forged
Shimano dropouts, and takes a 27.2 mm seat tube There are two sets of water
bottle bosses, braze-on down tube shifter bosses and pump peg and chain hanger,
rear brake cable is routed on the top of the top tube. The frame takes a
clamp-on derailleur, rear dropouts are horizontal (no dropout screws were
included) and measure 126mm wide, and the head tube measures 158mm.



The 1" threaded fork has Columbus blades, an investment cast crown, forged
Shimano dropouts, and the steerer measures 199mm.



This bike used as a showpiece and attention getting display in a Schwinn bike
shop. There has been a headset partially installed and wheels were clamped in
the dropouts, but the frame and fork were never built up and, of course, never
ridden.



There is some shop wear from being displayed and admired in a bike shop, as well
as from being in storage, over the past twenty years. There are a couple of 5mm
paint chips under the chain stays and under the bottom bracket shell and one on
the left bottom leg of the fork and front left seat stay. There are a couple of
2mm chips on the right seat stay and a couple of 1mm chips on the bottom left
seat stay. There are also a few other scratches and maybe some tiny chips I
didn't notice or list, but all of these in total are very minor and do not
detract from the beauty and amazing condition of this 1987 vintage
collector-quality frame and fork. The scratches and chips have intentionally not
been touched up so as not to detract from the originality of this classic
Schwinn Paramount.



I have owned many frames over the years, and still have a few very high-end
frames in storage, but the one I built for myself and ride today is a red
Schwinn Paramount just two years newer than this one. I love the ride, geometry,
quality, and look of the Paramount's, and if this were a 56cm I would keep it
for my next bike.
