Hello, I"m new to the group and am really interested
in gaited endurance. I breed Missouri Foxtrotters
and for the last eleven years have been selectively
breeding for endurance type horses.
I was wondering what distances those on this list ride
and what types of horse you ride. How do you place
with gaited horses.
There are lots of questions. But I won't drown you
in them all at one time!
I was born and raised and lived most of my life in
Washington state but currently live in the Ozarks.
It's been really hot here this year ever since
mid=May.
Do you ride in the heat?
Thanks for all the information!

Thanks. Brenda. We just returned from the Redwoods Ride and did top 10 (10th), but did not show for BC. This was Hunter's first ride and he got a tad over-wrought. I thought I wouldn't subject the vet to such a rude horse. He sure did well camping, though, ate and drank well, handled water, bridges, elk the HI-tie and various other interesting stuff.
I think he's going to be a nice horse. It sure is a pleasure not to have to post for 25 miles.

I live in Applegate in Southern Oregon. As of yesterday, I've done three rides. Redwoods twice(down on the California coast) and Headwaters, up near Crater Lake. I bought my TWH in May and have been spending the last few months in what I considered to be a thoughtful conditioning program. He did well, 10th place, but was awfully ill-marrened. Now I know what else I need to be doing.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your note.
Just got back from the Redwood ride down on the California coast. I
bought Hunter in May - I suspect this 25 was about 12 miles farther than
he ever went before. His vet scores were pretty amazing, all A's with a B
for impulsion at the finish. Impulsion is always a problem with my horses
because I'm old and don't do a good job with trotting them out. He came in
10th of about 22 and showed me what we need to work on. The riding part
went fine, but his ground manners must have reverted to some earlier
behaviors. He was embarrassingly ill-mannered. He kept up all day with a
very nice Arab my daughter had borrowed.

Brenda and all,
Svala, my mare, has been ponied several times and ridden out twice now:) As
soon as we were able to get shoes on we hit the trails. The first six
weeks, no shoes, she lost 50lbs with diet only. The second six weeks after
shoes and exercise she lost 90lbs. She is on hold currently due to
pressure, a colt was born in Utah with my name on it, now to sell my
gelding.
I am riding Gandur, my gelding, quite a bit so that he is in top condition
to sell. I've also taken in a young horse, 3yr old WB, to start on trails.
The things we'll do for horses:)
I'm on call this weekend, so won't make it out to Colton.

Hi Karen!
Glad to hear she's doing better, is she able to be
worked/ponied yet? Still riding your gelding?
Are you going to the VVR trail ride tomorrow over in
Colton?

The Icelandic mare I now have is coming along nicely. Another 100lbs to
lose, but her feet are looking better at every check.
See ya on the trails,

Nancy,
Not much is going on in this group right now as far is I can tell. I
am not sure why, except that a lot of people do both the PNER group AND
the gaited endurance group (as well as endurance.net).
There seem to be more and more gaited endurance riders in the
Northwest, though.
A few paso fino's (what I ride), Kentucky Mountain Horses, MFT's and
LOT's of TWH's. So there is plenty of experience if you get on the
right list.
