Since the weather is good tomorrow and MSCC has the ground reservation at Marymoor Park (directions below), I am shifting the coaching location to Marymoor Park.

Sorry for the confusion, but this way the kids will be getting more out on an open field.

Directions to Marymoor Park, Redmond, WA from SR-520 East bound:
* On east-bound 520, take the W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy exit (this is the exit after 40th St / 51st St) 
* At the stop light at the end of the off-ramp, take a right onto W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy. 
* At the very next stop light, take a left into Marymoor Park. 
* Follow this road straight all the way into the park (through the stop signs). At the 3rd STOP sign, the road forks - stay on the straight branch. 
* At the 4th STOP sign, turn LEFT (into Lot I (I as in India). The field is to the left hand side.

  • Plan B) If RAINING - Highland High School (Address: 15027, Bel-Red Rd, Bellevue, WA 98007 - in the covered Basketball court or baseball/soccer fields.)
If I have access to email I will send an update at 3:00 PM. Otherwise we will follow as described above.

Also, please email me and let me know if Wednesday evening (5:30 PM to 7:30 PM) will work. So far only one parent has replied in affirmative.

Marymoor Park Directions:
Directions to Marymoor Park from 156th Ave:
- going North on 156th take Right on NE 40th (or on NE 51st ... some people say that is faster) 
- go down till Bel-Red and take a left on Bel-Red (this will join W Lake Sammamish)
- go on W Lake Sammamish about a mile and take a right at the Marymoor signal (before the 520 intersection) 
- (if you come on 520-East, take Lake Sammamish exit and go right at the exit ramp signal. Take a left at the very first light after that into Marymoor Park).
- Follow once inside the park below

- Behind the tennis courts are the soccer field(s) located.

Directions to Highland High School from 156th Ave (MS campus):
- Head South on 156th Ave NE
- Turn RIGHT (West/South) onto Bel-Red Rd
- Go past NE 20th / Northrup Way signal
- Go about 400 yards the school is on the leftt hand side, turn LEFTT into the school parking lot.
- You will see tennis courts and adjacent to it is the covered basketball cage/court.
- Behind the tennis courts are the soccer field(s) located.

Greetings,

Starting from this week we will be running both coaching ($10 per session) and an outdoor league (FREE) weather permitting). Details are provided below.
For this week the coaching will happen on Saturday and the league will be played on Sunday. I am considering swapping them because on non-availability of the ground from next week onwards.

The league games are open for all and will strictly be open for the NWKC coaching participants (for those who have paid $80 fees for March and April).

Please RSVP your attendance to both the events at your earliest possible convenience.

Also, I would like to bring to your attention the following:
  • Photos from the coaching program have been uploaded. If you have any photos or videos to share please let me know and I will be more than happy to share. I would like to encourage the parents to start taking the photogrpahs so that it can be posted.
  • NWKC Waiver form is mandatory and required to be filled up each and every kid before participating further in the program.
  • A trial league will be run in the month of March on Sunday's. Plans are on for a full fledged KIDS CRICKET LEAGUE starting early Summer 2009. Starting first week of March we will start a friendly outdoor cricket league on Sunday's apart from the coaching sessions on Saturday's exclusively for the NWKC's "in2Cricket" coaching program participants. Please email Vishwa and register so that the teams can be formed. Once the teams are formed it will be final and new additions cannot be made.

We are requesting the parents to bring a check payable to "NWCL" for the amount of $80 (covering 8 sessions in March and April). The amount will be purely used for renting out the batting cages.
It is mandatory for parents to have the NWKC Waiver form filled out (once for year 2009) & submitted in order to further participate in the coaching program.
Plans are on for a full fledged KIDS CRICKET LEAGUE starting early Summer 2009. Starting first week of March we will start a friendly outdoor cricket league on Sunday's apart from the coaching sessions on Saturday's exclusively for the NWKC's "in2Cricket" coaching program participants. Please email Vishwa and register so that the teams can be formed. Once the teams are formed it will be final and new additions cannot be made.

Format of coaching will be as follows:
Different Age groups will be divided into a batting and a bowling team and will train for 45 minutes each (in their respective group) and will end the session with a game.
PLEASE RSVP your attendance (by sending an email to vishu2@...) so that I can book adequate nets. Walk-ins will have to pay and we will try our best to fit them into our planned schedule. 
We are requesting the parents to bring a check payable to "NWCL" for the amount of $40 (covering 5 sessions (November 22nd, November 29th (optional because of Thanksgiving weekend - will have the session if there are enough people signing up), December 6th, December 13th 2008 and December 20th 2008) @ $10 per session) or $10 per session. The amount will be purely used for renting out the batting cages.
Please contact me and let me know if the monetory contribution is an issue to bring the kid to the training. I will make necessary arrangements to cover the costs.
Need a volunteer to take the photographs and videos during the sessions. Please contact Vishwa for more information.

Session 5 - Saturday, November 1st 2008

Weather does not look great this Saturday. :(

We will meet at the grounds and see what we can do. I will only cancel if it is raining.

The next session (November 8th) will be played indoors and I would request the parents to get a check of $50 (to cover the batting cage costs of $25/hr/cage for the sessions - November 8th, 15th, 22nd, December 6th and 13th).

Weather looks greart this weekend also. The next session will be played outdoors and held the upcoming Saturday, October 25th 2008 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Marymoor Grounds, Lot I (I as in India at the Home Ground for Microsoft Cricket Club in NWCL).
Presently Vishwa Gaddamanugu (from Microsoft Cricket Club) and Naveed Dean (from Seattle Cricket Club) will be running these sessions with the help of the following coaches:

Thanks for participating in the first two sessions in the past 2 weeks. About 22 kids participated and it was fun.

The next session is this Saturday, October 18th 2008 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Marymoor Park Cricket Grounds (Home Ground for Microsoft Cricket Club) - Lot I (I as in INDIA).

We are happy to announce the following dedicated coaches along with myself and Naveed Deen:

We will moving into indoor arena and would be focusing on developing the core strengths of each and every participant. We are actively looking for sponsors to provide us equipment.

Welcome to the North West Kids Cricket group.
 
I would like to bring your kind attention about getting the North West Kids Cricket (http://NorthWestKidsCricket.com) coaching started by Vishwa Gaddamanugu and Naveed Deen with support from North West Cricket League - NWCL (http://www.nwcl.org) as well as American Recreation Cricket League - ARCL (http://www.arcl.org).
 
The group that is involved in coaching thinks that cricket is not just a game. Cricket, with its code of laws has always been regarded as a strong moral educator. It is an essential educational opportunity for youngsters to learn many essential ingredients of social behaviour: personal achievement, team co-operation, ambition, leadership, respect for leadership, respect for rules, respect for one other alongside of the recreation pleasure it brings into our lives. Cricket is an ideal sport for all ages and abilities, apart from the obvious benefits of sporting activity, such as improving hand-eye coordination and increased physical fitness, cricket also has a strong strategy and thinking aspect. The skills learned in cricket can be equated to life skills such as patience, determination, communication and above all, team work. These skills can be nurtured and developed through participation in cricket and be an asset to any young individual in both everyday life and in the workplace. 
 
We have had coaching sessions twice this year at Evergreen High School as a part of the cirriculam for the school kids to explore different sports of the world and to say the least it was a great success with kids wanting more at the end of the session. 
 
There has been plenty of push by parents to get it started earlier this summer but due to ground & time constarints as well as lack of planning we were not able to push it hard enough to get it started earlier. Rather than wait for the next summer to come, we will get some coaching done in the next 2 months initially at an outdoor setting and later on we will move to an indoor facility so that we can start to increase the awareness of the sport in the kids that are growing up in the North West.The plan for this session is get the interested kids get some coaching from the some of the gurus of cricket who have helped cricket grow in the Northwest.

I would like to personally request the kids parents to step up and help us out in this effort to make the generation following us learn and appreciate the sport which we are all so passionate about.

We were initially planning to start it off with light tennis ball so that we can get the kids play the game without any fear of injury and can slowly take it to the next level.

As far as the age group for coaching goes - my Philosophy is simple - We really do not want to restrict any kid from learning and the only condition is that they should be able to understand instructions.

Given that what we will eventually do is divide up the participants into age groups:
  • Under 8
  • 8 - 12
  • 12 - 16
  • 16 and above
I know that several kids will fall under the under 8 category. If it is larger then we may split them into under 6 and 6 - 8.

The first couple of weeks will be more or less knowing the participation level and interests, but will make sure that every one who attends these session get the most out of it.
The first session is planned for Sunday (October 5th 2008) from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Marymoor Park, Lot H (adjacent to the field where ARCL cricket is played).
 
It is highly recommended that you send a confirmation email about participation so that we can make adequate arrangements. I will make arrangements to send out the registration documents (contact information form as well as waiver form) out to parents so that we can take care of the administrative work.
 
I am initially planning to get a few folks involved in the choice of the roles (batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach, fitness instructor etc to name a few). 

Your comments would be highly appreciated and your help in this regard would help the interested kids take up cricket as their primary sporting activity.
